  1. I believe it's a walking type lure. Zara Spookish.
  2. A lot of times, the fish will only get the legs in it's mouth, and needs to readjust the bait in their mouth before a good hookset can be established. I generally fish with the rod tip high, when I get the hit, drop the rod tip, give it a good 2-3 seconds, then set. Are you using braid? I've had fish hit the toads on the fall, but never that deep, but then again I've never tried.
  3. Avid, a drop of super glue will help those line to leader connections from slipping. When I was big into snook fishing, I found that it really helped with my "quick knots". Really hard to tie a good line to leader connection when there's snook popping all around and you just got broken off AGAIN. As for the high visibility line. I'm afraid of it. I'll tell you that high vis mono looks like laser beams coming from my rod in the sun. I've got to imagine it's visible in the water. But of course this is an argument that will probably never be settled.
  4. Are you looking for a dedicated fishfinder or a ff/gps combo?
  5. I hate to be the first to say this, but fishing with a round reel feels AWFUL to me. Guess I've been using lopro's for so long now, just feels foreign to me. Interesting thread Avid, especially since my next purchase will be a swimbait setup. Think I'll break out my old Millionaire and see how it goes.
  6. Don't mean to throw a wrench in the middle of this wheel, but I bought the Summit for my toad rod. Love it. The Presidents, as mentioned before, feel a little "tall" for me. I have not fished a Supreme.
  7. You make me hate that I live in Florida.
  8. So, Reelmech, in your experience, what reels (if any) could potentially withstand such abuse?
  9. I've been using a rattlin' vibe with 20lb test for this kind of fishing lately.
  10. Costa Del Mar Hammerhead Green Mirror Wave 580 lenses. Retail $249.99 Again, leaves a mean set of racoon eyes. 8-)
  11. I have both units on my boat now. It was a 99 boat that I picked up used. Got a great deal on it. The trolling motor runs fine, as does the humminbird. The humminbird is a low resolution, grayscale unit, but does good for me. (will eventually replace, but not yet) I know that motors do eventually burn up, so with that being said, without knowing what kind of use (or abuse) it's seen, maybe go with a new motor.
  12. I would buy the swimbait setup. But then again I don't really fish finesse type baits.
  13. We sell them at my store (huge retail chain, not basspro/cabela's/gandermountain) will remain nameless. For the money, it's one of the best you can find. Some other suggestions in that price range- Garmin FF140 (real low resolution) Humminbird matrix 12 or 17- GPS capability down the road if you wish. Whatever you do... Don't buy the Humminbird Piranhamax.
  14. I've tried just about everything minus the hannon prop. Might give it a shot. Anyone else have any input?
  15. I use 5/0 EWG hooks for these type baits. I've begun using Zoom's horny toad hook for toads though.
  16. How does one go about finding what the lake record bass caught in a given lake is? Would this information be available online?
  17. My PB was 8 on the nose, (see avatar) was so d**n excited I took the pic with the boga still in her mouth. I've been fishing for approximately 15 years, and my PB before was probably 2-3. AND I LIVE IN FL PEOPLE! I HAVE thrown the senkos, the flukes, the jerkbaits, etc. out the window. I primarily fish toads, jig/trailers, and soon, swimbaits. I do not fish for numbers, I fish for big bass. I'll tell you, since I changed my tactics, I don't catch many dinks anymore. I've caught several fish between 5 and 7 lately, even put my buddy on a 9.5 I will break 10 this year. 8-)
  18. Dude the wind is driving me insane as well. Doesn't make for good fishing in a 15' G3.
  19. Nice. 8-) Robert, do you primarily fly fish?
  20. When you guys spool your spinning reels, are you lying the spool of line flat on the floor? I learned a trick a long time ago- Lie the spool on the floor so that the line comes off counter clockwise. Keep the reel on the rod and thread the line through the guides and tie to reel spool. Normally for me, the line goes all the way onto the spool without beginning to twist. If it does begin to twist, you flip the spool on the floor over. If you fill your spool of your spinning reel with the line spool coming off overhead like a baitcaster, of course it will twist!
  21. This reel slipped my mind. Touche.
  22. Rod, hands down. There's been many a time when I've landed fish with a reel with a busted drag/whathaveyou, and many times I've broken a cheap 20 dollar rod on a big fish, using a decent reel.
  23. If I were buying a reel tomorrow with that budget, I'd probably try the Daiwa Zillion.
  24. Want to reduce line twist? Possibly eliminate it forever? Do not close your bail with the crank handle. What I mean is manually close your bail with your hand, and make sure that the line is seated on the roller before you begin your retrieve. Closing the bail with the crank handle puts a loop in your line. Do it a few times, tangled mess of line!
