  1. At 7' and $180, the Dobyns Sierra 705c. At 6'6" and $130, the Dobyns Fury 664c. Lifetime warranty for both.
  2. That line is in God's hands now because I'm reeling in the fish
  3. KVD jerkbaits really roll if that's what you mean
  4. The OP said he's using a Mag Heavy which is a normal heavy for other manufacturers. That would be a 5 power rod.
  5. Could be as simple as heavier lures are easier for the bass to throw.
  6. I haven't bought a Speed Spool in a couple 2-3 years but I'm almost certain oil comes with (at least last I bought one) and definitely a manual.
  7. I got hit by one of those undesirable "employees" I brought up earlier on. It was bad enough paying for Next Day Air on a rod and getting it 2 days late, but then to see whoever packaged it didn't tape down the ends of the tube and both were cracked open was irritating. Then to see that the rod also wasn't secured to the tube like they normally are and was freely sliding around in there is a sick feeling. The rod is in one piece but if it snaps when I take it out, I know why. Sometimes some things really aren't on a company but on the imbeciles they trusted to do things the right way during a labor shortage.
  8. I used the words "I wouldn't" and "I find" when answering a question about what each of us thinks about rod weight. I didn't pontificate to anyone.
  9. I'm really starting to question my schooling. As far as I know the OP asked the members of this community and I answered for myself.
  10. Dobyns Fury 663c is perfectly what you're looking for. You can't go by the label on the rod. It says MH/F, but it performs as a M/MF, $130, lifetime warranty.
  11. If we accept this then we have to accept power being called "action." Over my dead body.
  12. I carry 1-3 setups when fishing from the bank. Sometimes it's nice to just pick up a rod with a different bait without having to retie, but it can be a pain to carry more than one. Sometimes the area is too full of weeds, brush, and trees, making walking more difficult than it would have been with one rod. Sometimes I prop up the other two rods against my backpack to avoid stepping on them, but I've been an idiot and taken them out on the back swing of a cast. One time I broke a rod this way, and another time my lure grabbed a rod and threw it into the pond. Then, of course, I've had times where I haven't propped up the other rods and just laid them on the ground, and that lead to me stepping on them and flattening guides. It really can be a pain.
  13. I recently found a few older rods I have laying around and bought the new version of the Black Max (Max X) to outfit each of them with. My son was going through the old house and found a Black Max 3 (LH). I looked at it and it was mostly clean and looked barely used. What I thought was a little dirt and grime on the line guide shaft will not come off. It appears to be some rust. I'm trying to find out the exact model number of the Black Max 3 (LH) and the exact part number of the line guide shaft so I can replace it, but I'm not getting definitive information in my Google searches. Anyone know?
  14. Get the Dobyns Fury 663SF. It's a great all around spinning rod. The little extra you're paying is worth it because you get a lifetime warranty. If durability is truly a concern this is your rod. Under $100 and you have to seriously lower your expectations. If it must be under $100, get a 6'6" M/F Daiwa Aird-X for $50 and replace it as needed (it's also a very good rod - think "the Black Max" of rods).
  15. Rods perform best at a total weight of half of what the rod is rated for. A 1/4 oz - 1 oz rod for example will perform best with a total weight of 1/2 oz. Add in the hook and plastic bait and you're not at 3/8 oz anymore. Maxing out a rod just because it says you can doesn't mean you should.
  16. It can be a lot harder to detect the bites of bigger bass.
  17. Eh I often use a 7 gear ratio on a 6'8" 4 power and it doesn't feel any sort of weird other than the bass never biting my bladed jigs
  18. Is it just normal Senko material? If so, absolutely not. A chopped Senko is not nearly as good as elaztech on a Ned Rig.

  20. With all the talk about hair jigs lately, I ordered a couple Picasso FX hair jigs in 3/8 oz last night. They shipped today and will be here in 2 days.. I chose Picasso because they're one of the few quality (looking anyways, I wouldn't actually know) hair jigs with a 3/8 oz (6 in) size, or at least a 3/8 oz size in stock. I usually see these discussed in 1/2 - 1 oz for ledge fishing / deep water, but deep water for me usually means 8-10 ft. At $15 a jig hopefully I didn't screw up on size or purpose So what should I know about fishing these? I literally never have. I haven't been this excited about lures since BR convinced me that the Vision 110 was worth the price.
  21. Just used one of my new Max X reels a few hours ago. As expected. Bomb casts, handles well. Slightly sticky drag initially when manually checking, but did well with a Vision 110 fish around 2lbs. Not quite an SLX or Tournament Pro but doesn't leave me wishing for more.
  22. No, I meant inches. I was exaggerating to make a point. I use 12lb mono in my shallow ponds with the 110 and even then I'm sometimes not getting any depth but it's the price you pay to fish hard jerkbaits in shallow water. 20lb I couldn't imagine.
  23. Just kidding. So this is a TW order. I've found that if you choose express delivery (meaning you're going to pay $$$), your order arrives on time. If you don't choose express delivery, or take their free shipping on orders over $50 offer, it seems like you get put on the back burner. Always choose in stock items as well, for the whole order (good luck on that).
  24. I've never seen this topic go well or as intended on any forum or social media. Everyone is so different, with different expectations and experiences, and rarely do any two people (let alone huge groups) operate with the same level of comprehension. Add to that the natural communication gap of speaking to strangers online (a vast majority of human communication is wordless), and we end up here.
