Bonafide RVR 119
at first blush. I like it. for a river boat I dont want any inside storage. water gets in there. no kayak is watertight, so no big hatches is a good thing for me. I havent seen any deep dives, but only what it might look like. I would love to fish smallies on the Umpqua river and a kayak like this would be fantastic. hard maybe, but my wife would kill kill me.

Kayak fish finder - Help deciding best unit for my use case and $$
that's way above my budget. but I do think for me a 9" screen would be too big. I have a 5" now and I do well. I might upgrade to a 7" with sidescan, since I have been watching videos on how to read it. I think I got it. personally, I wanted room to climb back into the kayak should I flip it over or fall out. a 9" would really get in my way. I left a big wide opening on my deck I fit thru. tested and proven. plus with my tiny 5" (that sounded awfu1!) I can use a tiny battery. I assume with a 9", you need a bigger more robust battery. just a thought.

What do you drive?
EUREKA!! I am happy to report I am still driving a 2006 Tacoma TRD off road 4x4. my all time favorite mechanic fixed the other front wheel bearing, and confirmed the local shop was trying to make a holiday credit card payment and hose me for repairs that WERE NOT NEEDED!! my mechanic put my mind at ease by taking the tires off his truck and putting them on mine. the only remaining road rumble is tire noise from my aging tires. the local shop told me it was my rear end coming apart. I knew it didnt sound right. he said he also needed to change the two bearings at the third member...I asked which bearings? and the errr..ahhhh...mmm...response I got, tickled my spider senses. I'm not buying a new truck until something catestrophic happens or Toyota comes up with a new model I like. thinking Hybrid Tacoma here. or the mystical unicorn if they bring the diesel Hilux..but that is a non starter here in the USA.

to be honest, I have considered trying to get a job as an algebra or calculus teacher when I am done with this gig. I can't see myself fishing that much.

Has your credit card been hacked??
I've had it compromised 4x. all four times, it think they do a few test runs. I see $3 charges for sodas and stuff. my bank says they are testing it before they run to best buy to get the big TV purchases. my wife is like an eagle-eye to that stuff and shuts it all down stat.

Tokyo rig in winter
i did okay with a Zoom Finesse worm. i just moved it so slow. it was really the breeze moving my kayak and me just sitting there saying...please please please you bass, please please.....tick! to add. my friend kicked butt with a 3/4 tungsten bullet, and a rage Menace. he was punching with it last summer. that tiny thing slipped thru the weeds cleanly.

Struggling: Keep boat or trade for Kayak
my outback can pace my buddies PA12 with his Motorguide dragging him at high. i cant stay in it that long..but the Outback and Compass are fast. i named my Compass, the Green Basilisk. my outback is Basilisk 2.0 but this is solid advice. if you're planning on trailering the yak. go with the PA14. and if you can store it all in the garage, you wont even need to unpack the kayak!! just clean up and store it almost loaded for the next run. win win win.

Body Odor. phhhooossh!
my wifes EV is in for service. she is a sweet talker, and they were either gonna give her $100 Uber credits for each day, or a loaner car. she got the loaner. i went with her to drop it off because it is near a ShakeShack burger joint. a rare and distant treat., the loaner looks and drives just like her's. but. there is a problem. it smells like bad cologne. bad cologne covering the unmistakable stench of garden variety BO. WOW! dispite winter, we drove home with jackets zipped up and windows down. at home i wiped down the interior and vacumned. i am tempted to let my dog get in and wet him down. i think my wife is going solo to get her car back. she is driving me to work everyday, since my truck is also in the shop and i CAN STILL SMELL it. it is in my clothing, my nose hairs. FAAACKKCK. if she makes me go with her, i will tell the person we return the car to ..."that is not us". hhahah.,. i think the person(s) that invented all those body sprays need a kick in the leg joints. hard.

Struggling: Keep boat or trade for Kayak
i am weird. my wife gave me the green light to buy a small bass boat and i went REALLY small and came home with a kayak. in the beginning there was a learning curve about everything. loading up. i have learned what i need to bring and keep it all together. loading my truck is almost a ritual now, and i have it down to a chorographed "Dance". it takes me 8 minutes. having fished out of a kayak for 2 years, i know my decision for myself was 100% on point. and here is why. i fish a lot of smaller lakes near my home. two are less than 10 minutes away. non motorized boat lakes. and the ramps sucks if you wanted to drop a boat in and trollling motor around, only one of my lakes is viable. the neighborhood lakes fish great and because they are so low impact with respct to effort, i tend to go fishing a lot. my friend sneaks in before church. the big lakes. way further. but fishing out of a kayak is great. why? in a drought, the lake stays open for kayaks. boats drag hard parts in the shallows, ramp close to them. with my pedal drive, i can do an 11 mile day easy. that is a lot of range!! not as much as a boat, but what this has done for me is to force me to be a better angler. i do research on where to launch, find spots and work the areas i can get to. i cant simply pull up a trollling motor to zip to a new spot. i have to figure it out relatively close to where i launched. basically live with my decision. do i sometimes stare longingly at the bass boat on full throttle ripping past me to mysterious unknown waters? yup. all the time. but i cant count the time a bass boat pilot has puttered up to me to ask me what they are biting on. i sometimes think they dont stay in one spot enough to figure out a pattern. i got nothing but time on a kayak. wind sucks. no way around it. but a ProAngler handles wind better than my Outback. to add: my friend has a legit bassboat. i get my fix there. in summary, i feel the BEST bassboat is a friends bassboat. ahhahahh

Nah. You guys deserve it. Really? Man I’m fairly social. That’s my retirement fear; losing my social skills and circles.

your GENIUS moments.
mine. my mom bought us a boat. it had a 70hp Chrysler motor on it. it died in the middle of elephant butte lake. my brother was with me. i rebuilt the carborator with a leatherman tool, and in my efforts killed the battery. i took a piece of rope and wrapped it around the top of the motor and yanked. it roared to life and ran smoother than it ever had. my kid brother thought i was magic. i bet he still thinks about it. i might have been 19, and my brother was 15.

i seem to only hang with those types. at least my fisherman friends. they are all fishing and tapping out questions like..."what should i throw first", "can you check the tides for me?".... i am putting on pants for an online meeting. okay..not pants, but a shirt. grrrr...i would rather..much rather be fishing. even in December. my friend got a 6.5 lb spotted bass yesterday. at least it looks like one. i need a better pic. i should have never accepted this promotion. nothing but work. :D. my teacher friends are all on holiday break!! dont they have papers to grade, rooms to decorate. detention? anything?
