  1. the Callan is one of the Contenders. Simms is another.
  2. I am thinking of buying bibs. rain bibs. they are not cheap. not the goretex ones. I pass on some good fishing days, and I think with really good rain gear, I would still get out there. no atmospheric level events, but regular rain. I need to stay with range of motion stuff. any recommendations?
  3. I do know I dont worry about one thing. what reels that other people use. I dont even ask people, "what reel is that?" super weird. secondly. I dont photograph my reels..no glamour shots at least. I do enjoy people's reviews of reels. just tell me if it sucks or not. I'll take it from there.
  4. one time when I was on a bowhunting elk trip. my brother and I were making our way towards a distant bull. we only got a peek at him. we cross a fence and a spine of wood goes into my pinkie cuticle. just jams up into there like some savage bamboo fingers torture. I bite the sliver out and we hike on. over the next week, my finger got warm, painful to the touch, turned reddish. I could feel my heartbeat in my finger. at home I showed it to my urgent care nurse...it was cleaned and I was put on antibiotics. messed up my guts. when it healed it itched, then the skin came completely off. hahah.. nurse said, just stopping to wash my hands would have prevented it. if I was an early settler, I would have lost that finger. I think. lesson learned. now I wash everything.
  5. so cool...I hope I dont embarrass myself, but that is a white bass, right? I havent seen or fished for one in decades. Elephant Butte lake used to be magical.
  6. I’m going with the Little Creeper Trash Fish. 6/0 Beast hook providing the penetration hopefully. im slow crawling it on the bottom. My Osakana Slide which is a line thru plows the algae lined bottom and fouls on every attempt. I think having the hook coming out the top is going to work better.
  7. you bring up a great point. the other day i was backing into a tight spot. had to back in to allow the charger cord to reach the back. i was doing it old school, using my side rearview mirrors, lining everything up. i nail it of course. i had young engineers stop to watch me. i get out and they asked me why i dont use the backup camera. hahahha... i like having options. i'm cool like old school.
  8. i tried it. i suck. i cant cast at all. to me it is pure poetry watching someone skilled present a fly. poetry. and all my poetry starts with "roses are red..." i suck.
  9. for me, my favorite walking bait is the Teckel Kicknocker. i have the regular and the pup. all bone. nothing walks easier for me. i can use the wrong rod, and the wrong line and still get it to sashay across the water surface. calm or waves. the loud knock i can hear even with the longest casts on a calm day. it is like a metronome in my ears...and i get into the rhythm easy.
  10. i've always like this statement. cracks me up. i think i know the origin to it. but yea. i typically do not have issues setting the hook, if i am ready. except punching, i once went full levitation when my feet slipped and i ended up laying on the deck of my kayak. how i didnt fall overboard is a mystery. my friend looked at me, and said, "what the heck are you doing over there?" he laughed at me all day.
  11. @casts_by_fly i showed a picture of your boat to my wife last night. she didnt say no!!! for me, similar set up with a bigger motor and shallow water anchors...i could get it done!!
  12. i'm about to pay about $80 per pound for wild turkey meat. hahah./. the fish? i'm not even eating them. life is simply getting more expensive. it is what it is.
  13. all well and good on paper. but reality? no way. i cant get people to NOT come to work with a cold or flu. self-awareness is not a thing. hahah.
  14. Where is Tomball?
  15. one guy i fish with doesnt even own a PFD. kayak dude. he does however put cute little foam coozzies on his rods so they dont sink. he says, "accidents happen, you never know.." i bite my tongue, but the irony is thick..and obvious. so funny. if his gear was better quality, i am grabbing a few combos...ahhahah..jk.
  16. i'm going to try to cook one and eat it. hahahha..
  17. These things hit like freight trains and make you think you’re a bass fishing WINNER! then, oh no… yuck.
  18. wind is subjective. 10mph. nice. 40mph..not so nice.
  19. (7/21.75)*100=32.2 gonna be a long year. hahaha i am hating that big denominator!!
  20. i have the 6" version. i like them. cant say i love them. they have one speed as far as i can tell. too slow, no tail wagging. too fast, it rolls on its side disturbingly. you have to find the Goldilocks speed. so burning them in is out of the question. i bought the 5" and tried it yesterday. i was getting the bait bashed. but the math was easy. i immediately got four hits and only one hooked up. how many fish do they last for you? that one 4 lb fish put a gash in the hook slot and that magnet may come out. and with the hook hanging below the belly the hookup are tough to bury into the fish (for me). you all getting better success? are you adding a stinger hook? if so, how? yesterday, i sent out another bait option and got success, so i put the magdraft away. it was fun bite, and the fish i did hook up gave me a good show of coming up from the depths and smoking the bait close to the surface. you like the freestyle better?
  21. i fished yesterday so today was sluggish. the commute to work was gonna be a chore. (even my jog in a drizzle didnt wake me up) i slammed my coffee immediately. as i approached a drive up coffee place (i pass everyday), i ran out. i pulled in to refill. all out the door, it cost me $5. black coffee. as i waited. the two cars flanking me were regulars. they got a "hello Marg" and their drinks came out without a verbal order. the coffee lady looked at me and said, "they are here everyday" got me thinking about lunch. i used to eat out for lunch daily. now i pack it everyday, and eat out once a month maybe. quick math. that is $5600 a year (?..is that right?). i'm not perfect with money. those megabass lures dont buy themselves. but coffee is nuts now. i only drink coffee. no espresso drinks. i dont even know what one of those runs at a coffee place. you all DIY coffee at home for work? i have a box of pods for emergencies if i need one at the office.
  22. i think that is the point of @VolFan. why go thru the trouble of buying one and then stowing it? which is kinda how the poor soul found out that fateful day (in the story)...it shouldnt be stowed. it should be worn which makes the stowabiltiy a moot point. but your point is perfect. i put mine in luggage and took it to mexico. i backed out the CO canister. zero issues. it did stow perfectly with my baits and stuff.
