i fished yesterday so today was sluggish.   the commute to work was gonna be a chore.   (even my jog in a drizzle didnt wake me up)

 

i slammed my coffee immediately.  as i approached a drive up coffee place (i pass everyday), i ran out.  i pulled in to refill.  all out the door, it cost me $5.  black coffee.  as i waited.  the two cars flanking me were regulars.  they got a "hello Marg"  and their drinks came out without a verbal order.  

the coffee lady looked at me and said, "they are here everyday"

 

got me thinking about lunch.  i used to eat out for lunch daily.  now i pack it everyday, and eat out once a month maybe.    quick math.  that is $5600 a year (?..is that right?).  

 

i'm not perfect with money.  those megabass lures dont buy themselves.   but coffee is nuts now.  i only drink coffee.  no espresso drinks.  i dont even know what one of those runs at a coffee place.

 

you all DIY coffee at home for work?  i have a box of pods for emergencies if i need one at the office.  

If you spent $5 for a coffee every day, that’s $1,825 in a year. I haven’t ever bought coffee from a coffee shop. I won’t even use Keurig pods because of how much they cost. It’s so cheap to make it at home. My flavored creamer is the most expensive part of my daily coffee habit. 

I'm a home coffee pot whether I'm working at home, going to the office, or heading to the lake.  I go through about a pound of coffee a week, plus we like premade flavorer creamer at another $8 a week.  So that's about $13 a week for us in coffee (about $700 a year).  Could I buy a couple rod and reel combos for that- sure.  I'd also be a much less happy person every other day of the year that I wasn't using those combos.

Two teenage boys with endless appetites and team sports. It adds up very quickly.

 

But for me personally, my habitual splurge that adds up quick are cigars. I burn 2-3 sticks a week. Whiskey isn’t nearly as bad, I drink maybe 6oz. a week so it can take me a month to kill a whole bottle.

 

 

I’ve never drank coffee, I gave up tobacco close to ten years ago. I will grab lunch a couple times a week and the rest of the week I’ll bring things from home to munch on while at work so I don’t have a whole lot of daily costs. Between my wife and my son who does sports they make up for my lack of spending. 😁

My wife had to have a Kuerig . So I buy the house brand cups at Sams. They are cheap and stronger than other brands. I can use the 12 0z setting and get a strong cup of coffee. I have to use  the 10 oz setting on every other cup I tried.

Can of Skoal per day $5 X 365 = $1825 per year.

I can live without coffee.

 

I’m a “coffee at home” and a “coffee while I’m out” person at the same time. I try to keep my coffee at arms’ length. Trying to only make decaf when I make coffee in the afternoon, but the taste is so terrible compared to regular coffee that it doesn’t always happen. 

I make a pour over at home every morning, only time I buy pre made coffee is when I run out of grounds (my grocery store near home doesn’t open until 7, lazy scoundrels haha)

Like Bird I have a can of Skoal a day. My coffee is brewed at home  Columbian Folgers. My 3 - 4 protein powder shakes a day isn't cheap.

Skoal is almost 8$ a can here. If I send you some money can you ship me a roll or two ? 

We rarely buy coffee out, once in a while if we’re an hour or so from home, and it’s still a.m.

 

I always take from home when fishing, not much choice that early in the morning.

 

We use a Kourig at the moment, we were gifted the unit. When it dies I’m going to a Mr Coffee type drip machine. For the Kourig we were using Kirkland, by far the cheapest we could get but that didn’t last long as it tastes like crap. Changed to Peet’s off Amazon, .53 a cup, $750 a year. I see it went up in price to .58, $825 from now on. If I remember correctly a Dunkin Donuts coffee is $3.

I make my coffee at home. Mostly French roast, about 36 ounces to fill up my yeti cup every day.

 

My wife drinks a bunch of over priced flavored crap from the coffee shops a couple times a week though.

I gave up on Skoal 25 years ago when it hit $5/can. Consider yourself lucky! That being said, I found way better, Grizzly, then Grizzly got expensive and I moved to Stokers. Stokers was great and cheap!

75% of the time at home. If out and just wanting a coffee, I’ll buy one but it just isn’t as good as home.  Im a coffee snob I guess.  Once you start using a French press and get your grind and temperature to your liking, DD, Starbucks, Wawa, etc. just aren’t as good.
