Eighty years ago today. I am so much in awe of the men and women of the greatest generation and their sacrifices. My dad and uncle both fought in WW2 and rarely talked about it. A look back at D-Day: Why the World War II invasion remains important on its 80th anniversary (msn.com)
  2. Wife and I love being on the water and love catching fish. But if we get skunked, we still have fun. Back in the day, I was a numbers guy, especially in the salt water. Run out to the isles of shoals and catch fish all day, numbering into the hundreds. Same thing in the Piscataqua river. Catch schooly stripers all night. Last twenty years or so it's more just being on the water catching fish as they come. As far as targeting big fish, we don't per say. Funny thing is, our three biggest LM were caught in places We never would have guessed they were.

That's also one of our secrets. Can't tell you how many good bass we've caught in 1-2 ft. of water, right at the shoreline tight under overhanging bushes.
  4. I found out that the AWD malfunction is covered under warranty so that's a good thing. Parts on order. I have my own pet peeve about Ford engineering. Our Edge has the tow package and they managed to put the plug for trailer wiring directly under the hands free assisted lift gate (back hatch) sensor. Which means more often than not when I'm plugging my trailer lights in I activate the lift gate, usually hitting me on the way up. This Idea definitely came from the " Yesterday I couldn't spell engineer, today I are one" school of engineering.
  5. I can't help you on pairing the Ulterra to a FF as I don't use that feature on mine. But I've had the ulterra for over six years now and love it. I have a bad back so the stow and deploy and trim are invaluable to me. I use the remote 95% of the time. I got to say I feel kind of spoiled when I can run up to an area to fish, deploy the TM, adjust the trim, and set spot lock, all before I get out of the drivers seat.
  6. Most of the waters I fish have places like that. Great places for SM. In the spring and the fall I love to throw a paddle tail on 1/8-1/4 oz. swim bait hook. KVD Swim'n Caffeine Shad is my go to paddle tail. In the summer ned rigs work for me.
  7. No noise and no loose wires. It might still be under the drive train warranty. Car is less than 5 years old with only 14000+ miles on it. Have an appointment on Tues. Thanks for the replies and the suggestions.
  8. Hi all, As the title says, my 2020 Edge is showing "AWD malfunction service required" warning. Looks like the all wheel drive has defaulted to just front wheel drive because of it. I've got a appointment at the garage next week but, in the mean time, can anyone steer me to what I might look at to find the problem and or fix it on my own? I'd appreciate any suggestions. Jim
  9. If you really want to have fun with a fly rod, use one to go after stripers. 40" striper on a 9 weight rod is a blast.
  10. I have the exact same rod and reel ( only my rod is a one piece). Nicely balanced and a joy to use. My Avid is almost always used for throwing paddle tail plastic's.
  11. Another of the greatest generation gone. Bud Anderson, the last World War II ‘triple ace,’ dies at 102 (msn.com)
  12. I bypassed the issue by picking up a battery powered liquid transfer pump at harbor freight. Worked so well I grabbed a couple more. Now the gas can stays on the ground and I fill things up with a switch. It was in the $ 10-15 range as I recall.
  13. I grew up fishing on both fresh and salt water without electronics of any kind. For the longest time I had no Idea what fish finders were. Of course these were the "I have a fishing pole, a can of worms, a couple of inline spinners, and maybe a jitterbug " days. Salt water was mostly hand lines. Today I wouldn't be on the water without electronics. I could fish without them, but knowing the depth and bottom contour is vital to me. Way back when boats and motors were like cars used to be. Simple, cheap and easy to work on. Remember before power trim and tilt , motors were designed to kick up if they hit something to keep them from being damaged? The wife and I bought our dream boat when we retired. It's the last boat we'll ever own. I dread the $$$$$$$$ we'd have to dish out if we ever needed to replace the motor.
  14. My dad was on a destroyer, my uncle piloted B-17's . The greatest generation.
  15. I've got nothing but amazing respect for wardens in both Maine and New Hampshire. They do a great job in often trying circumstances.
  16. Last few days have been interesting for us. We thought we were in for an early Spring. Grass was greening, flowers starting to come out. Then last week we got hit with the Nor Easter. High winds, several inches of snow, no power for four days ( thankfully we have a genny). Biggest pain in the but was tree branches every where. I managed to snow blow with out busting shear pins but I had to stop many times to remove tree branches. Then the power came back on, the sun came out, and the snow just disappeared. Yesterday I swapped the tractor over for yard work and today I played tree branch, pine cone, etc. pick up. Last week, looking down my driveway. Going around the yard " power raking" everything into piles. The rakes on the bucket are really for dethatching but work great for this. From here I remove the rake and pick up the piles with the bucket, to be dumped on another part of the property. Worst part is I was scheduled to pick up the boat out of storage when all this went on. I had to reschedule for next week. thanks for looking.
  17. I used to have " senior " moments. I'll be 70 this year, so I guess now they are just........ moments..... Wife and I have routines when getting the boat ready at the launch. I'll start at this end and do XXX around the boat. Wife will do her routines as well. After a few months off during winter we double check our selves in the Spring. First few trips out It's not unusual to hear me muttering on the way to the launch....drain plug........drain plug
  18. One thing we find invaluable is a boarding ladder, connected to the stern. Have used it many times to get back in the boat.
  19. Wife and I can't stand the heat. Even in winter our bedroom has a window cracked open at night.
  20. Is it just me or do the names of all these old lures just bring a rush of the best memories and are guaranteed to make you smile. Thanks for the blast from the past.
  21. Some days you can't catch fish no matter what you do. Wife and I just take it as a lesson on what didn't work, sit back, look around, and enjoy the day. We see every day on the water as a great day.
  22. I'm much like you. They don't call it the good old days for nothing. I have never lives further than ten miles from here, and still fish the same lake I Did as a kid 60+ years ago.

Knew an old timer who would only bass fish at night. he would troll a jitter bug along the lake shore. always caught fish. Even today I keep jitter bugs on hand. First top water bass I caught was on a Jitter bug, 60 + years ago.
  24. We are in a area that looses power surprising often. My genny sits with the tank empty in our walk out basement. When needed I can pull it out side, fill it up , plug it in, and have it running within minutes. It's rare not to need it two or three times a winter.
  25. contentment -- this is our fishing style. Wife and I just love being on the water.
