  1. i've got a ml and paid full price for mine from tw , the $69 deal is great price for this rod. very comfortable to fish and sensitive. mine gets the most use for ds and as a backup for ned rigs bank fishing rivers . it's a steal for the sale price wished i waited.
  2. while fishing for river smallies this december with a shakey head with a beaver style bait and another time using a geecrack bellows gill (3.8) with a 4/0 texas rig with a 3/8 wt i manage to catch 2 large brown trout one 20" and the other 23".
  3. nope, don't care and i couldn't even give you the name of a single pro; oh yea steve martin i mean roland martin . think i've seen him on tv.
  4. 1/16 ned head jig with gene larew ned rig inch worm in sooner run ( like them even better than trd/ticklerz )
  5. 1/15 ned head with a green pumpkin trd (5# smallie)
  6. white and pink ,haven't caught many fish on white and not a single one on pink.dark to light in natural colors work the best for me ( black, greens, browns, dark blues ,with smokes being the lightest).
  7. spinning gear 100% of the time for my smallie fishing as i fish fast moving shallow (<10') rivers and use light line and lures , and that works for me. the baitcasters come out when fishing slop for LM and heavier line is needed.

  10. better read my post again-no belly aching here i catch plenty of fish and 100%from the bank. just telling it like it is, take it or leave it.
  11. 10% of the bass fisherman catch 90% of the fish is most likely true thanks to those sonar units but without them those numbers would be way off.15-25# in florida is only 3 or 4 fish right? tournaments have most certainly affected the fishing in my area ( candlewood and lk lillinonah in ct.) you can ask ANY local and they will tell you how it use to be. still big fish in these bodies of water , of course there is but nowhere near the fisheries they once were!
  12. mushroom jig head 1/16 1.missile bait ned bomb 2.gene larew inch worm 3.big bite limit maker worm
  13. just a shoutout to dobyns for great customer service. my favorite finesse rod a 661sf snapped about 12" from the tip fighting a 14" trout thanksgiving morning ( managed to bring the fish in ) , my first ever rod that broke in 50 years of fishing. called them the monday after the holiday and explained my situation. dobyns sent me a return label and sent a replacement rod that i received today (10 day turn around). it's been quite some time since i have gotten that excellent a service from a company when problems arise. thanks again dobyns.
  14. stanley slide and glide my #1 worm . hollow body with supplied weights you insert to adjust fall. great texas rigged and on a shakeyhead . one other is gene larew ned rig inch worm great for smallies and trout , my #1 for river fishing.
  15. i fish the housatonic river in ct and it sounds like your river that you described. i wade myself, and use either a l or ml rods between 6.6 - 7 '( i have 6 setups for river fishing ) i find i can cast a 1/15 ned with bait 60-70 ' no problem using a diawa regal 1000 (all 6 ) with 6# mono. the shorter rods are easier to transport and for walking in woods to my favorite spots.i have the phoenix m1 6'9'' s light comming monday.
  16. i'm going against the grain here and say ml/f or even a l/f ( my favorite ) for river smallies on neds (1/16, 1/10 , 1/8) .caught 40 or more 3.5-5# smallies this fall in the housatonic river in ct. don't think i missed many if any at all and lets talk about landing these fish , plan and simple it's a rush. paired up with a 1000 reel ,( i have 6 daiwa regals a great real for its price) you will have nice light rods that will have no problem setting those light weight hooks into your catch.one other nice thing about those rods are when you can't locate the smallies they work very well landing and playing trout.
  17. live around the corner from the lake and have no boat so i don't fish it to often. reports say it's ok and if you go you can fish lake lillanonah and thats about 8 miles away.that i fish from shore and have a little more knowledge of. sm and lmb , pike and perch are plentiful and my advice about either lake is do not go on weekend.my opinion about either lake is that there are to many tournaments held and the lakes are not that large and thus affect the fishing. can't understand the idea of fishing something other than lk george or champlain. maybe try vermont.
  18. last week or so can't seem to find any smallies in my favorite river but the trout are extremely aggressive with my ned rigs .
  19. plus 30$- 80$ the way i read it on their site
  20. bought 2 light spinning rods ( shimano curado and phenix m1 for my river smallie and trout fishing ) to replace my dobyns fury 661 that snapped thanksgiving morning fighting a mighty 1.5lb trout. was my favorite ned rod but really tentative about getting another since that was the first rod i ever broke in 55 years of fishing.
  21. just ordered 11 packs from them to check em out will see how they are-had never heard of them before your mention of them
  22. 4 transactions with TW in last 10 days , no problems!
  23. my number one rig and just started using it this summer, RARE when they don't produce.
  24. after a 20 year hiatus from fishing i got back into it in 2021. first 12 or so times out i went fishless and was taking it personally so i joined this forum and picked up some tips and some new techniques ( ned ) and by june i was back in form . lmb were hard for me to find from shore and 3.5 # was the largest but then i switched to river fishing ( housatonic ) and slayed the smallies with at least 50 fish in the 3.5 to 5 pound range and lately since the smallies are harder to find i've caught 22 trout in the last week ( about 6 hrs total time )with 5 over 3 pounds.
  25. river fishing in conn. and a ned rig bounced off bottom in calm water adjacent to fast flowing water is still nailing them
