  1. I just recently purchased a 14ft mirrocraft aluminum vhull boat with a 7.5hp mercury outboard, trolling motor, and trailer. The boat and trailer are clearly in good condition. The guy i got it from had run into some poor health, and hadn't used the boat in the past two years. Obviously the motor needs to be checked out, and some maintenance work will need to be done. I don't know a ton about motors, just wondering if some of yall could give me a heads up, on what i should expect to be done/price when i take it in. Also if your from around the richmond Va area, where should i take it. I plan on decking it in, and doing some work on it. i have seen a lot of good work on here, so if you could post the thread of your work, that would also be great. Thanks Jason
  2. If it was state record, then it would be going on my wall.
  3. Went today, and got some hunting stuff. Some nice boots, and duck decoys. No fishing stuff. Second time in the store. The place is unreal.
  4. Just got an email for the store. They are doing all their opending day specials October 2-5 and they have a ton of people there doing autographs on October 1st (Truex Jr., Stewart, Hamlin, Ryan Klesko,Jimmy Houston, Woo Davies, Rick Clunn, Chris Daves) PM and i will forward the email to everyone, tomorrow evening.
  5. Yeah i plan on going and checking it out, and then going to greentop.
  6. I am going to have to start hitting that up, i live like 1/2mile away.
  7. I passed it on the way to DC this weekend. From the looks of it no way they could have it ready to open by race weekend.
  8. I have started to see more and more of us who are starting to fish from kayaks. I was thinking some of us need to start getting together, and doing some float trips around richmond and the surrounding areas. I am free this weekend, and was just posting to see if anyone is interested in doing this. I have been mainly fishing the James between pony pasture and bosher dam, and around Watkins landing. Numbers but no size. Anyways i was looking to expand my knowledge of places to fish around the area, and i figured doing some float trips wouldn't be a bad idea. Jason
  9. Simonsays, i have been out on swift creek resevoir several times and I put in right off woolridge road, and it wasnt a problem at all. I didn't do to well out there. First off, it is huge, so i spent a lot of time just paddling around looking for decent spots with my depth finder. I didnt really find too many. From what it looked like, the majority of the people i saw were using live bait. If you plan on going, i would get a good topo map of the reservoir, and try to map out some sports or you will be paddling for days. It is extremely shallow around woolridge road, 5 or 6 feet seemed to be the deepest i found.
  10. Yeah you can fish/wade at hugenot flatwater. There is plenty of parking. It is only about 1.5 miles from pony pasture on the same road.
  11. Yeah the guy used to call the cops on us in highschool, when we would hang out down there.
  12. I have friends that fly fish around the nickel bride and the train treseels and they do reasonably well.
  13. Fishing James is a Kayak fishing club, or is this where are all the jon boats are.
  14. check craigslist. I got a really good deal on a 6 month old Tarpon 120. With regard to the original post, either do the milk crate setup or get some flush mounted rod holders. I have two flush mounted in the back and a scotty rod holder in the front. FishingJames gave you the link to Appomatox River Company. They are really helpful and knowledgeable. On tying it down, just use ratchet straps like musicman said.
  15. I have a Wilderness System Tarpon 120, and really like it. Its a SOT kayak. The version i bought, came with three rod holders, and i added a depthfinder. It only weighs 65 pounds, so it is great if your fishing by yourself. i can easily toss mine on to the roof of my xterra and walk it to and from the water. Like snowbass23 said, check out kayakfishingstuff.com. Great website, with a ton of good info.
  16. Lake Salisbury is member only, and they have been very strict this year. I have been asked to leave once. I have a friend who is a member and everytime we go they check his lake membership. When i lived in salisbury, they never checked. i think since with google maps you can see every body of water that they have been having a lot more non members show up. If you go, you may be asked to leave. Stonehenge Golf course pond is not really worth fishing. I have fished it several times, and just caught a couple little guys. It is pretty shallow, and way too much vegetation.
  17. I have been thinking about doing this. They have some trips where you shoot ducks in the morning and go fishing in the afternoon.
  18. I have a tarpon 120 angler rigged up with a piranhamax 240 depthfinder. I really like it, and currently have no complaints about it. I drive a Xterra so it is easily transportable. Its my 1st time with being able to consistently get off the bank, and using a fishfinder and my fishing has really improved. I have also fished in a canoe, which i also liked. kayak is good if it is just you.
  19. I have two flush mounted on the back, and a scotty in the front. It all depends how many rods you wanna take with you. I personally like to have more than one rod rigged up so i dont constantly have to tie on different baits. I have a depth finder on mine, and i think it has helped me catch more fish, and eliminate spots that aren't holding fish.
  20. i like the look of the carrot stick and reel combo
  21. First of all, this is a pretty stupid question. Not trying to be mean, but it is. I think we can just sum it up as its more exciting for some, not as exciting as for others. Everyone is going to have their opinions, none of which are right or wrong. For me, playing sports and competing against other people, is a lot more exciting than fishing. Basically it just comes down to what you get the most enjoyment out of, is going to be the most exciting for you. There is no correct answer, and nothing anyone says is going to change what you think. These opened ended arguements, and continuous debates over why brand Y is better than brand X, are starting to get a little painful. I am not trying to be a jerk to anyone, or diss this board. I check the board pretty much everyday and have learned a lot. But some of this stuff is just painful to read.
  22. I just got my fishing kayak, a Wilderness Systems Tarpon 120, this february and really enjoy it. They are really the way to go, for people on a budget. After the initial investment, there really isnt any cost or upkeep. Its environmentally friendly, nice little workout, and allows you to access basically any body of water no matter how shallow or deep. I mainly use mine on small ponds and out on the James, and it handles equally well on both bodies of water. If you want you can take these things out in the ocean and bay too. Easy to transport also. I weigh 155 and have no problem lifting and moving it around. I drive an Xterra, so i just throw mine on the roof and tie it down. I got a good deal on craigslist. So if your thinking about getting one i would start looking there. You can get good deals on used ones. I am taking mine out Friday, so i will take some pictures of it and post them. I really enjoy mine and i am sure ado124 will have nothing but positive things to say about his after he takes it out.
  23. It sucks it happened the first day, but you know it was eventually going to happen.
  24. I have had maui jims, ray bans, and costas. I really liked the Costas and the Maui Jims. The Maui Jims were just exteremly heavy. I have the Costa MP2s with the green mirror glass, and they are awesome. Great for fishing and just general wear.
