Dobyns 703C vs 705 CB
I’d want a Dobyns 4 power for spinnerbaits and chatterbaits and by that I mean a 704c, not a 704cb. I use a 704cb for jerkbaits and small crankbaits, and that’s it. Call them. It’s easy to to talk to a human and they’re very helpful. 1 (903) 919-8028

Is this a legit JDM site?
Yes they’re legit. You can sleep peacefully ordering from them. The U.S. dollar goes a long way against the yen right now.

If you have a JDM Zillion SV….
I have a DC732sf. If the 2 power baitcasters are anything like the 2 power spinning rods, I’d hate to try driving home a 5/0 hook with it. The 2 power is a lite action rod IMO. I use a Kaden 713C for wacky rigs and that’s about as close to finesse as I get in my lake. I use a 734 Champion or Sierra for weightless flukes and I can sling one a mile without much effort. Mucky bottom inhibits using neds and shakey heads, and drop shot ain’t my thing.

If you have a JDM Zillion SV….
For $300 Kistler will build you a pretty rod.

Inches Per Turn Debate
Go out to a field, pull out 50 yards of line, mark the line, and ask your friend to explain/justify his theory.

If you have a JDM Zillion SV….
The 30 % military discount is hard to pass up. I strayed recently and bought a heavily discounted Team Lews Signature series that I really like. Ark offers a military discount, but I never inquired about it after the owner confirmed that they offer it. I’d like to try a Daiwa Tatula or an Ark. I’d buy another Lews too. So many good rods between $150 and $300 can make choosing one difficult. Stinks to live in a country where we have to deal with things like this huh? LOL! Happy 4th and God Bless America!!!

"Subtle Changes "
If you had both started out throwing 1/16 and after 3 hours you had each caught 4 fish, and then you had switched to 1/32 and caught 16 to his 4 over the next 3 hours it could be considered convincing evidence. All fishermen are not created equal. I know that my older brother could outfish me using a safety pin and a rubber band. And not because I suck, he’s just always been that way.

Fluke, Flush, Caffeine Shad, D Shad, etc.
+1 on the YUM Houdini shad. Nice action and a slow sink rate. I just got some 6th Sense Flush and tried them this A.M.. No bites, but I like them. Hooked my rear seat on a cast and backlashed so bad I had to admit defeat. Cloud cover was disappearing anyway.

Home repairs. I wish I had more knowledge in the matter.
Exactly. Push come to shove I’m still physically able, but I’ll leave it for the younger guys. I put down all new laminate flooring throughout the house 2 years ago. My hips, knees, and back didn’t appreciate it. It wasn’t hard work and I’ll be d#*ned if I was going to pay for it but……….

what is your pocketknife?
A small discontinued Spyderco has been my EDC for the last few months. I’ve carried a knife every day for the last 45 years or so. I bet I have 30 or 40 knives - flippers, traditional, fixed blade…. way too many. Been intending to sell on eBay - same with watches.

Which Lews reel?
My last comment got me thinking. I have several 20+ year old reels that function as well as any/most of the latest and greatest from any manufacturer. A Daiwa TDX103 I paid close to $200 for, A Curado Bantam for $129, and a blue BPS Rick Clunn model for $100 are all a pleasure to use even 20 years later. I don't know if they have a P2 pinion bearing and I don't care. The drag on todays reels might be a little smoother and the gearing might be a little faster, but IMO there's not all that much that seperates the "old" reels from the newer ones. We've had operationally trouble free reels for a long time now. I must admit that my old Daiwa is due for an overhaul, and sending her in for a complete makeover should have her running better than new. I wouldn't lose any sleep over your purchase, especially considering that you haven't even used it yet.

Which Lews reel?
I wouldn't be too concerned about it being an older model. Often times when a new model comes out it's little more than a minor refresh of the previous model. For example, I have the previous generation BB1 Pro and they just put out the new latest and greatest BB1 Pro. So what? Is the performance of the new model really any better than the old model in any measurable/practical way? I doubt it. One thing it will do is attract new buyers!! Use it like you stole it.

Best reel for Dobyns 867.
It comes in left hand.

Which Lews reel?
Not very scientific, but I’d put the reel I like best on the rod I use the most. My Tournament Pro is on a Dobyns Champion 734.

Evergreen SB125 topwater bait
I say leave it as is and get a decent pair of pliers. Go fish with it first and then if you think the third hook is too much, remove one. Just keep in mind that the reason you caught the fish in the first place might be because of that 3rd hook.

Best reel for Dobyns 867.
I don’t own a Tranx, but if I wanted a heavy duty, high capacity low profile reel for swimbaits it would be a Tranx. I use an old Abu 5600C4 and it works just fine, but I haven’t got the swimbait bug nor a real swimbait rod. I’m using on old Browning 7’6” flippin stick.

Which Lews reel?
I have a BB1 Pro, 2 Team Lews Lites, and 1 Tournament Pro. I like the Tournament Pro the best. Between the Tournament Pro and the Tatula SV TW, it’s a toss-up IMO. At $159 you can’t beat it. I paid $165 shipped and it was a steal IMO. With some of the sale prices I’ve seen lately, I’m on alert for left-hand Tournament Pros on sale even though I don’t need another reel right now.

Bubba Pro Series Cordless Knife
No you didn’t get a lemon. They’re all “20% more powerful”.

Y'all Ever Jerks?
Did you intend to be a jerk? IMO, life is too short to waste time worrying about whether I “might” have come across as a jerk. He offered you a worm and you declined his offer. So what? Odds are the guy that offered you the worm never gave it another thought.

Tips for MCAS Fishing Pond
https://sdfish.com/forums/t/lake-at-mcas-miramar.175760/ I was stationed at Miramar ‘82-‘84 and never heard of any fishing on base. Your post prompted a search “fishing at MCAS Miramar”. Yep, there’s fishing at Miramar.

Storing garbage and recycling on your boat
I have knuckleheads leaving unattended jug fishing rigs floating free that I pull out. Pulled a tire and rim out last week that my trash man wouldn’t take. Luckily my local tire shop took it for me. I just throw it all on the deck and remove it when I get home.

I like Lews and Daiwa. Tournament Pro vs Tatula SV TW is a toss-up for me. I like both equally.
