  1. The Monocacy? I just had to reply to someone from Frederick. I grew up there and still visit once in a while. If I’d graduated I’d have been FHS class of ‘77. Frederick is unrecognizable to me nowadays and is turning into another Montgomery County. I used to play in the fields where (the now closed) Fredericktowne Mall is before it was built. At least I have the memories of when Frederick was mostly corn fields and dairy farms.
  2. On YouTube, Gary Dobyns talks about the faster tip on the Kaden Series.
  3. I had this dilemna last year. Sooo many good rods available under $200. Dobyns gives veterans 30% off so it made my decision easy. Started off with 2 Kadens, added 5 Champion XPs (2 spinning & 3 casting). I’m happy with Dobyns. Without trying every brand you’ll never know for sure which brand/model YOU like best. Choose one that you feel good about purchasing and use it. The recommendations you’ve been given are solid choices.
  4. I have several 15+ year old reels and some new Lews and Daiwa reels. (Lews Team Lews lite & BB1 Pro and Daiwa Tatula 100 & 150) IMO my older reels are as good as my newer ones. The newer ones MIGHT cast further, but I’ve never measured and my old reels cast far enough. Most of my casts don’t require casting a lure as far as I absolutely can. I didn’t have problems with backlash on my older reels and I don’t have problems today. Nothing not to like about new reels. Just my opinion.
  5. I’m a Penn State fan and I was happy to see Michigan win. Michigan SPANKED OSU. I get tired of the same teams making the BCS year after year. I’m rooting foe Georgia to win it all. I’ll take anyone besides Alabama.
  6. 2 DWIs, a couple posessions, and then thank God I joined the Navy at 22 years old. Retired Navy and Civil Service. I muddled through and ended up with a pot to tinkle in. Work ethic and dumb luck.
  7. Go through checkout and select PayPal. If it’s discounted in Paypal, you can back out of Paypal and continue shopping.
  8. Dobyns gives 30% off for veterans. Call them. A discount I’ve taken advantage of many times.
  9. Picked up a Garmin Striker 4 vivid at TW and got my 20% off. The discount showed up on Paypal. $152 total.
  10. Roumbanis rods have been $169 for months.
  11. I cringe and cross my fingers whenever I find out that my package is being delivered by FEDEX. FEDEX has delivered too many of my packages to the wrong address in my neighorhood and I’ve been fortunate that my neighbors have brought the packages to my house. My house and mailbox are clearly marked. UPS has NEVER done this on 1,000+ packages over the last 20 years.
  12. My 20 year old Bantam works as well as most $150-200 reels today. It’s a great reel.
  13. My wife fishes a 3-4” grub on a 1/8 jighead and that’s it. Cast, slow steady retrieve, repeat. I usually have 4 rods rigged with different lures and she’s outfished me more times than I’d like to remember. She’s uses an Okuma spinning reel and a 20 year old 6’M Bionic Blade.
  14. Dobyns give 30% off for veterans. Call them.
  15. When using spinning gear, do you cast with your right hand and crank the reel with your left hand? If so, you might want to consider a left hand baticasting reel. I had used spinning gear exclusively for over 20 years before I bought my first baitcaster and cranking the reel with my right hand wasn’t going to work for me. I sold that first baitcaster and I’ve been using left handed baitcasters for the last 20 years. Buy a $150 7’ MH rod and $150 reel and you won’t be disappointed. Several good brands of both are readily available.
  16. I've watched every episode and think it's the best show on TV. Blue Bloods is probably #2 IMO. I like shows where the good guy wins and right prevails.
  17. IF they were working for the previous owner, clean and re-seat ALL the connectors. I worked in Aviation Electronics for 40 years. Even if they hadn't been working for the previous owner, it's a good place to start.
  18. I’m just waiting for them to start using retractable underwater periscopes hooked up to a video monitor so they don’t have to lay down with those megaphone lookin’ gadgets up to their eyes. Watching those guys fish is like watching paint dry. I may be in the minority, but I think all the technology is taking the fishing out of fishing. Are they using drones to hunt yet? I don’t want to know.
  19. The Dobyns DC 732SF and 733SF use old model/leftover Extreme series blanks. Gary Dobyns calls them “special”. I have them both and doubt I’ll ever buy another spinning rod. I’d look into the 732/733.
  20. I use an old pole from a swimming pool skimmer net. 8’ and works great.
  21. https://www.napaonline.com/en/p/BAT8231?impressionRank=1 AAA members 20% off this month. I’d buy it at regular price either way. East Penn makes it.
  22. Alot of Dobyns Champ XP refurbs available. Picked up a 704cb for jerkbaits. https://dobynsrods.com/the-dobyns-champion-xp-series/
  23. That's no exaggeration that she's really good at it. Dang!
  24. Hi Bill. Glad you're here! A lot of members with stories similar to yours.
