I have experienced this with the 7s and high 6s I've caught, where they run hard once or twice and then give up. This particular mystery fish gave me about 5 or 6 hard runs and a couple of tight circles, the last run being the hardest

for my own peace of mind i choose to believe it was a flathead, much like the one that's been dead on the bank for a couple months. If it were a bass, I would assume it to be a DD. My PB (7-10) gave more thump and at least poked its head out of the water. The one thing that makes me think it was a bass is that it hit while I was burning a red trap. Either way I'm not gonna cry over spilled milk, just be more patient on the next one

I hooked into something huge again. Acted like a catfish, no shakes jumps or thumps. Just running and then some circles. If it was a bass, would have been a pb. I handle that better than I used to

Felt good today so I went back out. Couple chunky dinks. The real magic was handing off a minimax to a teenager who was there camping with his dad, they'd been there for hours without a bite. I got to watch them pull in a 4lber on it. Gotta feel good about that one

Thanks! It feels good to get a heavy surface strike again. Spring break means my fish sites return to their nature as 'state park camp sites'. Whatever that is. So access has been a little limited to my favorite spots. Also laid up with an RA flare last week so didn't feel like doing a lot

Tics
the absolute sickest I have ever been was with a tick-borne illness. @Swamp Girl remembers this. In the spring of 2023 I contracted Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever and Covid at the same time. 103-104 degree fever for about four straight days. About two years later and I never got all the way back to normal. as much as i love spiders, i hate ticks. they're as wasps are to bees, but to spiders

It Was Raining and There Were No Kids at the Water Park
there's this big flathead that's been dead on the bank near where i fish. i got to talking to some park rangers that were surveying storm damage at the park, they were showing me the 62lb flathead caught in a tournament last week. I said "hey let me introduce you to my buddy, flats"

I will take that as a challenge 😅our predawn summer topwater bite is pretty good until about August, nighttime jig fishing once it gets hot for real. And that will be slow slow

Snow might as well be ice as far as my desire to fish in it. But I guess I would feel different if I lived north

I am blessed with some of the best down here. There are big, beautiful reservoirs all over. We have been largely sunny and mild since mid february and I have done my best to take full advantage. Good work fighting through the ice. that's not for me. I hooked into something this morning that allllllmost spooled me. I think it was a big catfish because it never shook or made any moves like a bass. I was about five turns from being out of line, my backer/mainline knot was in the water before the fish let go. Would have liked to have gotten a look but that's OK

Thank you. I benefit from the hard work of texas parks & wildlife, and the US Army Corps of Engineers. We had a huge storm come through last night and I managed to get in and get out before the lingering clouds cleared off
