pet peeve with cooks, such as those guys on tv or youtube? mine is -
when they mix in some spice or salt, etc, but just dump it in one spot, make a slap dash stir, and call it good. when i add spices or salt etc, i distribute it all over the surface, and give a good stir............ why would i just dump it all in a spot? that just doesn't make sense to me..........

skip casting question
with spinning gear, do you use a roll cast, as suggested earlier in this thread? maybe that was for bait casters.... i'm just flinging a crank bait, trying to keep the angle low, with my spinning gear. mixed results.... i do like how on the occasion it skips, it's this cool skip on the water sound, which i'm positive means dinner is being served to the bass?

MH Spinning Rod Users ?
what sort of line do you guys use? i've been happy with yellow hi vis braid --- around 20#? i use a m spinning rod.... might be interesting to break out my mh one. i hadn't really thought of using it - since casting with it might not be as fun as my m........ and i'm experimenting with skipping. i just ....... like when i was a kid, trying to skip rocks........... i've never considered skipping baits with a bait caster. seems like it would be difficult.

MH Spinning Rod Users ?
i'm also a bankie, and carrying multiple rods just is a pain to me. i also love the simplicity of spinning gear. and i don't really get the other guys who fish the same pond. they use ultra light gear. i prefer using bigger baits, not the small ones. i'm trying to get bigger fish. trying is the operative word here, but everyone is getting basically dinks

What does my generation know about sonar?
Thanks so much for the info! I had no idea that sort of things existed. That is impressive....

What does my generation know about sonar?
witw (what in the world, for us old timers, lol) is a flasher? i thought it was just those big flashy things trolling guys used? but it sounds here like it's a thing to help map something out....

Do you have rules in your boat?
man, you guys is pretty easy going with yer rules, afaict. they're pretty much courtesy, or common sense, safety, etc... if you got a pet peeve and just tell people politely - yeah....... you guys r pretty easy going, afaict. not like my cousin's pal, captain bligh.......in my earlier post.......... criminy. although, i can see that guys point 2............but i woodn't go on his boat.............. all his rules and moneys collected and chores and everything --- i woodn't want to be around that myself.

Can bass see my braided line? Does it matter?
i haven't read this whole thread, but a lot of it is human beings (the posters) looking at videos or different types of lines -------------- how a human sees is very different from how a bass sees. for example, how does a cat see, or a dog..............or a bat........... the ultimate to me would be picturing how a bass sees, which happens to be underwater......... and then taking into account the different types of fishing line - from mr lmb's perspective.

Do you have rules in your boat?
are rules different than what guests are expected to do to help with the boat stuff? my cousin has a pal with a boat.... guests are expected to chip in for fuel, help load and unload, be there on time, do whatever else needs helping with, help wash the boat (i think) after..... i forget what else. i referred to his pal as captain bligh, jokingly... i recognize it takes a lot to have a boat........ ... but don't you guys have guests do chores for the boat??? or chip in for fuel or dock fees........

Balance
i'm 68. for me, building strength is good, but more important is flexibility, maintaining a good diet, and getting a good night's sleep. maintaining all those helps with my balance. but i also need to be careful. don't leave stuff lying around to trip on. yes, be careful going up and down stairs. at night - turn a light on, so you don't stumble in the dark... last year i had various health issues, and balance was definitely an issue. now it's a lot better - but i still try to be reasonably careful. people my age falling can suffer busted bones, etc.... not good.

I’m about to give up on braid —> leader
Why didn't you like the braid, and what pound strength were you using? And I'm assuming mono is your main line, and fluoro the leader? I've never tried fluoro as my main line... Well, on anything, but I've noticed it seems kinda of stiff and I wood be concerned about using it as a spinning reel main line?

Another great actor gone
just happened to see a 60 minutes interview with sutherland. it claimed another actor refused to do that part - the fake general - and the director said to sutherland "hey you..... you do it..." and that jump started his career............

I don't just have a bass thumb.
i'm slightly dyslexic........ i read your post as "i just don't have a bass thumb...." lol.... very impressive gardens! man, i s*ck at gardening...... i have trouble growing weeds..........

I’m about to give up on braid —> leader
i still don't understand how the op gets wind knots with a spinning reel. i use 20# braid........ i'm guessing he uses much lighter braid.... i just use a double uni for my leader, which is quite long - 7'. i just cast it ------------- no wind knots....... it's just so simple. i find casting with spinning gear so relaxing............ unlike bait casting, which is more a skill, to me. i always manually close my bail --- a guy on youtube who works on millions of reels suggested it as a way to minimize wear on the reel. i think his reasoning was when the bail is closed by the reel, it tends to always do it on the same spot of some innard part.... aka a gear, i guess....

Another great actor gone
i think of the 70's for donald........... klute, which won some awards?.... and mash. that film was so crazy. great movie, maybe dated now, but 4 me, still a huge movie. sutherland was great in it. a few years ago, he was on 'the view' tv talk show, talking about how close he was with his wife..... he said he could tell which uh - intestinal gas came from her vs a room full of other people's gas, etc...... there was a brief but totally dead silence. a character! i recommend mash for donald watchers. he was in his prime! heck yeah.....

willie mays............ the say hey kid is gone
was just listening to some of the tributes on the radio today. one person related: mays and bobby bonds, father of barry, both were playing the outfield, and they went up to make a catch deep in the outfield, and crashed together. i guess mays was kind of injured on that. on the ride back home, barry said "dad, i can't believe you hurt willie mays....!!!" mays, until the past few years when he was living in an assisted living facility, was often at giants games. it was always good to see interviews with him and see him around the club. but yeah, mays was a total package - all five tools, and each at the highest levels. they weren't stealing that much in games when he was younger - afaik... barry bonds - he was a three or four tool player. he couldn't throw rockets from the outfield........ mays' hero when he was growing up was joe dimaggio.

willie mays............ the say hey kid is gone
mr. giant, willie mays, passed away yesterday. pretty sad when your heroes finally pass on. to me he was the best thursday the giants and cardinals will play in rickwood stadium, the oldest pro stadium in the country..... mays made his pro debut there, before he was signed by the ny giants........... one of the true greats .......... and possibly the greatest five tool guy....... as his manager leo durocher said, "if he could cook, i'd marry him...."

My wife making dried fish, thinking she is back in the Philippines.
drying the fish, with those seasonings.............then frying it, which imparts oil and kind of re-softens it, i'd guess......... that's concentrated flavor, imho........... do you enjoy it also?

Boulders?
what are the bass doing there - near the bottom? are they catching current, which i assume may bring food to them... or is there vegetation on or around the boulders? where i fish, there's a bunch of large rock out croppings, and pretty deep water right facing them.. maybe 10' or more. it just seems like there wouldn't be a great food source there.... i fish the aquatic plants in the shallows nearby....

Where do you rank on the Angling Tech Scale (ATS) and why?
i'm a 1/2. bankie. one rod, and a plano. hey, maybe the plano steps me up to a 1? and i carry extra leader material.... oh,............. i guess i'm a 1/2................. so sad. but i fish to relax and be happy........ occasionally i'll catch a fish.
