I didn’t know he was a Canadian.

A lot of 'Canucks' came down here for acting....two off the top of my head are Shatner and Doohan (Trek's Kirk and Scotty)

The man was a good actor.

Invasion of the Body Snatchers was how i always remember him

What’s that movie where he was a professor smoking pot with his students then starting porking that kid’s girlfriend  cause the kid wasn’t mature enough?

Outbreak.  General McClintok.

Also features some other fine actors/actresses like Hoffman, Gooding Jr, Freeman, and Russo.

I watched Dont Look Now last night. Donald is so good in it. RIP

MASH, Animal House, Kelly's Heroes...

Animal House, which has a pretty interesting back story. In order to get the film made, they needed one known star. Landis got Donald to say yes. So the film would not have been made without him. And the film kicked off the careers of many young, unknown actors.

But Donald didn’t have much confidence that the movie would make money. Given the choice to earn a fee of either 2% of the film’s gross profits or his typical day rate of $25,000, he took the later.   Over time, that ended up being roughly a 14 million dollar mistake 😊

i think of the 70's for donald........... klute, which won some awards?.... and mash.  that film was so crazy. great movie, maybe dated now, but 4 me, still a huge movie.    sutherland was great in it.  a few years ago, he was on 'the view' tv talk show, talking about how close he was with his wife..... he said he could tell which uh - intestinal gas came from her vs a room full of other people's gas, etc......  there was a brief but totally dead silence.

a character! i recommend mash for donald watchers.  he was in his prime! heck yeah.....

That’s it! Interesting back story as well.

I don't know why, but I cannot hear his name without immediately thinking about this line from M.A.S.H.:

"I've seen you somewhere before. I don't know your name, stranger, but your face is familiar. Have you always had that mustache?"

And the Animal House scene where he comes down in the morning with Katy

I definitely enjoyed his character in Kelly’s Heroes, and his presence in movies over the years just seemed to make the particular movie I was watching better. Given all his various roles when watching an interview last night it was surprising that he was an introvert was told when not getting a part of “the guy next door” that “he didn’t look like he lived near anyone.”

Thanks Donald Sutherland for making our lives a little bit better and condolences to your family.

He was great and one of my favorites. His characters were always a little goofy or crazy. It just seemed to come natural to him.

just happened to see a 60 minutes interview with sutherland. it claimed another actor refused to do that part - the fake general - and the director said to sutherland "hey you..... you do it..." and that jump started his career............
