  1. To add an odd situation to this. What are people doing with hooks like the owner haymaker that are offset ewg. I have been rigging them by leaving them buried in the plastic, but it can make bait sit off at times
  2. Can anyone recommend a mold that works well or can be modified reasonably easily to make some nice mid strolling heads? I really like my gamakatsu ball heads for swim baits, but they don't seem to work real well for mid strolling.
  3. Well, I gave it a shot yesterday and was able to get a few. One was over 4, so it worked fairly well. May have to give some of the big spoons a shot, just not sure how easy they are to keep further up.
  4. The lake I often fish is 70-100ft deep within a cast to the bank. It gets a thermocline anywhere from 20-25 feet in the summer. Would a flutter spoon work just keeping above the thermocline and not going to the bottom?
  5. I have the 2018 7'3"mh and 7'2"h. I'm really looking forward to the 24s, those handles make everything feel considerably amplified to me. I sold off my nrx+ jig rods as I just always grab the poison adrenas for those tasks now.
  6. Have any good memorial day sales been announced? I haven't seen one for TW yet either.
  7. Anyone have experience with this one? Newer to glides and wanted to try and toss it on my dobyns 795. Just wanted to some opinions before spending that much. Thanks all
  8. It stacks like memorial day?
  9. Bluegill flash and sungill here. Sungill on a white spinnerbait works great oddly
  10. I believe the military discount stacks on memorial day sale only if your a vet
  11. The cork is better on the xtasy, but probably wouldn't base rod choice on that.
  12. I have a nrx+ 854 and a drx725. Both feel very light in hand and both balance very near the locknut. I'm probably going to end up in the minority on this, but I prefer the way the xtasy fishes. The nrx may be more sensitive, but by an amount that the brand of line your using probably has as much difference. It's splitting hairs and I couldn't honestly say I feel more with the NRX. Also have a zbone on the x ray blank...same thing it's sensitive, but would be guessing to rank it. The jwr nrx line are quite fast, to the point I feel concerned about fighting fish for any duration and trying to horse them a lot, as it's easy to unload rod. Having the backbone just a little further back is my preference. I wish the xtasy line had stayed in the 7'3"-7'4" range, rather than going to 7'5", but that's my only gripe. So I went down the the 7'2"
  13. Really like those dolive beavers on a jig, the 3.5 are a nice size. They are quite expensive for a trailer though.
  14. Texas rig trick worms are a staple for me, usually tossing them with a 3/8 weight. Also a fan of trick worms and roboworms (4.5,6) neko rigged.
  15. If you can find a megabass spinnerbait special it would fit the bill nicely. It's rated near a MH, but definitely on the lighter side. And they were 6' 11"
  16. Yeah when you put me in touch with him there a bit ago he said that. So I picked up about $300 worth of plastics. Really like the rhythm and blues color too.
  17. I like the osp 3" dolive craw or a TRD on mine.
  18. I like a rod that has a pretty good parabolic bend for the large footballs. I use a 894 for flipping jigs with the stout hooks. Footballs often have a medium wire hook. The 894 is very fast and can unload easily. The recommendation for the 7'4" h st croix would be a really good one. The 873 is a great football jig rod as it's a bit slower than the 894. I wouldn't be afraid of a 3/4 football on the 873. Your not trying to drive the same size hook.
  19. I get thats the easy answer. I've had great experiences with dobyns warranty and overall feel if the rods. The Shimano warranty is much more of a hassle (from personal experience). It's not saying they don't make amazing stuff, I still currently use 7' m expride spinning and a 7'3" poison adrena MH, but would rather support a company that has given me the better experience.
  20. I'm curious which rod in the dobyns lineup is closest to the 6'10" med Shimano action. I have a fr705cb and a fr703c. The 705cb seems as bit too soft to get a good twitch with rod tip, have to do more of a pull. The 703c is more the action but doesn't load as well on cast. I have never tried the 704cb, 610-4 , or a 702c. Would really like to stay with a dobyns, just not content with current jerkbait options.
  21. Was able to speak with Don, he told me that he's done with the plastics business. So I picked up 15 of the 25 packs on tackle warehouse. He said he's just gonna be selling splash its now.
  22. I left a voicemail today with him. Does he do any custom runs ever?
  23. Thanks for the info Tom! I got a pack of the 4" spade tails in s20 today and they seem to be about perfect for the 1/0 rebarb ( and they are crazy soft, I'm a fan). I think I'm going to grab some small mouth crush, honeycomb, chocolate blue, and lightning shad. The reapers look pretty cool as well...then there's some 6". I think it's gonna take the 2/0 to cover the 6" as there's not a lot of hook Gap on the 1/0. At least black Friday is coming up lol.
  24. Anyone have much experience with the don iovino worms on a drop shot? I'm looking for Texas rigging on a rebarb hook. Wasn't sure which tail or length to go with. They are a little steep with having to buy a 25pk to get a ton of options
