  1. I have 3 zillions and 2 fuegos, I like the zillions much better. They feel more solid. The fuego casts lighter baits better though.
  2. You look to be one spinning reel short. What a coincidence! You have quite the eye. The rod just showed up on my porch the other day, I guess the reel will be here shortly ;D
  3. All Dobyns Rods, and a mix of Zillions, Fuegos, STX's, Luna, and Toro.
  4. For regular hooks, I see no reason to even think about purchasing these hooks. However, I have been unsatisfied with every punching hook out on the market, so I did purchase a pack of the punch hooks. The hooks are extremely sharp, but TOO sharp. First fish - 2lbs - The very tip of the hook bent up and hook was ruined. Tied on another hook. 2lber - Hook ok. Then another 2lber, hook tip bent. I bent 3 hook tips on 5 fish all under 3lbs. I threw the rest away.
  5. I don't have a MH St Croix, buy my Dobyns 734 is used for exactly what you listed. Awesome spinnerbait/buzzbait rod. Very versatile. Goodluck.
  6. If anyone ordered too many out of impulse, PM me i'll buy a few.
  7. 13lbs3oz - Caught it on a 1/2oz jig that I made myself, with a beaver trailer.
  8. Use 50lb Braid with a 15lb CXX leader. You will have all the strength of 50lb braid and CXX, and absolutely no coil what so ever. Most lines above 12lb test coil, fluorocarbons especially. If the jig is heavy enough, it shouldn't bother you.
  9. Hands down P-Line's worst line. Definitely should bump up to the P-Line fluorocarbon.
  10. Dobyns 703 (7ft) or 733 (7'3) . I know you said 6'6 or 7, but 7'3 is an awesome length for all around bass fishing. Great for T-Rig plastics, Spinnerbaits, Buzzbaits, Senkos, Rat-L-Traps, you name it.
  11. Obviously I'm not posting pictures of the giants I caught, just some nice fish. Maybe one of these days I'll post that bad girl.
  12. Don't try too hard, sometimes they come when you least expect it.
  13. This is pretty much what V&M made, it's just that head with a skirt banded on. Biggest issue with this is it's lead not tungsten. If it's just for basic fishing, it shouldn't be an issue. But if you're planning to use it for punching or anything, it makes it 10 times harder to get into the cover.
  14. Most likely a male guarding a bed. Fish do spawn in Fall as well.
  15. I have an Dobyns 806 / Daiwa Luna 300 and a Dobyns 795 MT with a Revo Toro. I absolutely love both.
  16. Really depends what your price range is. If you can afford to spend more, definitely go with Dobyns. The new G2 rods are amazing. I pitch more then I do any other type of casting. Any rod you can pitch with, but it depends what you're going to be pitching that should determine what rod you get. I like 7'3 - 7'6 rods for pitching, I get a little more distance, and my accuracy is much better. What baits are you planning on pitching?
  17. I have a new computer, no music, and didn't want anyone to hear the words that were coming out of my mouth
  18. Bait Knocker. From shore it can be tough, but even if it works 5 times out of 10, that's 5 baits you'll get back then without one.
  19. Haven't posted in the outings section lately. Figured I'd post up a few photos from this summer. Had more 4-6lb fish then I could have ever imagined, but no real giants. All fish were caught on a Snag Proof Perfect frog or Punching. Video at the bottom was first time I've tried filming, pretty fun.
  20. I bit on the "Slower is better" thing for cranks, and very quickly realized I hated it. I now use a 6.3:1 and am MUCH happier.
  21. You might just catch one when you least expect it, and when you're not searching for that big bite. I threw swimbaits a lot last years, and my big fish on a swimbait was 9-11. I dropped a swibait, and got a 12 and 13 on small baits. Don't put all your marbles in one bag and assume you must throw a swimbait. Structure is very important, and finding those spots where the big fish are. I'd worry about baits last.
  22. It happens. It's not always the right time to upgrade your gear and shell out more money. I have a close friend of mine who has 15 combos, all are worth under $100 combined. Doesn't stop him, as he's caught many many bass over 10lbs. You can always keep looking on here in the flea market too, you never know what might pop up one of these days.
  23. I continuously hear sub par things about GL2. The IMX and GLX are really where they get their good name from. I'd strongly recommend a Dobyns 765. Awesome all around jig rod for flipping and pitching. I know guys that Punch with it, throw frogs with it, and many other techniques. It's just a hair shy over $200 and well worth it.
  24. I guess when I said the word "Leverage" I meant it in a different way. Not to mention, we're talking bass hear, not 150lb salt water fish. Although what you said may hold true about power, it's on a much smaller scale when it comes to bass. I was implying more the fact that I can steer a fish away from structure that I do not want it near. I do a lot of short casting in close areas, longer rods help me lead the fish much easier. There's a reason why almost every company is now offering a ton of over 7ft rods.
  25. It makes a BIG difference, but it's not JUST casting difference. For me, I'm far more accurate with a longer rod, especially pitching and flipping. Also, you move more line on the hook set, and have more leverage over the fish. I have 7 rods over 7'6 , and several more 7'3 .
