  1. What do I need to get engine information on a Lowrance Elite Ti2? I've got a Mercury 50 horsepower engine, Tracker Classic XL and the Lowrance Elite Ti2. I don't have a network on my boat. I'm pretty sure I need the Mercury vessel view link interface https://www.mercurymarine.com/en/us/boating-experience/smartcraft/product/vessel-view-link. Then....I would need a network to connect it to. What specific pieces do I need for the network? I've got the vessel view mobile. It works, but I'd prefer to have the information without fumbling with my phone. I'm considering removing my factory installed tachometer and installing my Elite Ti2 in my console dash. (7 inch, it would fit, and be visible, but not sticking up like it is now) I've got an older Garmin Striker unit on my bow, using a Minn Kota US2 transducer. I may eventually get another Elite Ti2 or 2 newer Elite FS, or other Lowrance units and add them to the network. I know nothing about boat networking. (and just enough about computer networking to be dangerous)
  2. 10 year old PC laptop. I'm not much for surfing on a phone.
  3. A few week ago a co worker was going fishing the same day, and same landing I was going to. I texted him a picture from the landing ~1 hour before sunrise and ask where he was. He texted back "the bass aren't awake yet". I caught a 4 pounder on my 3rd cast. I sent him a picture and said "this one is awake".
  4. PB Largemouth a couple hours after dark. It was a Friday night with a nearly full moon in July 30+ years ago. 10 1/4 pounds according to my old "De-liar" scale. It was 25 inches long. No pictures, no digital cameras back then. Weighed it, measured it and turned it loose. Caught it on a Devils Horse. PB Smallmouth was 5 1/2 according to the same scale. This was ~ 40 years ago middle of the day in April. Released it. The 12 year old kid I took with me that day caught one that was 8 pounds. It's mounted on his wall, and turned him into a lifetime bass fisherman. Both of these were on Texas rigged lizards. His picked it up by the tail and moved it from the bed twice before she finally engulfed it.
  5. I'm a skeeter magnet. I've been using deep woods off, and it works good for them but at times flies still want to eat me up.
  6. I'm at the ramp an hour before sunrise during the Summer. I'm back at the ramp leaving by the time most of the wake boats are getting started.
  7. Happy Birthday!!!! and prayers from myself and Mrs B for your wife's recovery.
  8. IMHO the biggest danger for handling bass is hauling them around in a live well all day, putting them in a bag weighing them, then.....finally after a bunch of photos they're released, either dead or half dead.
  9. So...I'll do the math just for fun. I live 34 miles from the (free) ramp I normally use. My truck get's 14 mpg towing my boat. Current gas price here is $3.49 per gallon. We'll call it 6 gallons but should be closer to 5. That's ~$21 for truck gas. I normally use 2 to 4 gallons a day in the boat. That's $14 for boat gas. I don't count food. I take my food/drinks with me. That's the same food and drinks I would eat/drink if I wasn't fishing. I have a lifetime NC Sportsman license (fishing and hunting) that I bought 40 years ago. The bait monkey doesn't count. (LOL). So if my Wife goes with me it cost ~$35 per trip. If she doesn't go I usually give her some money to go shopping, casino, or whatever to entertain her. So.... It she doesn't go with me it's usually ~$135 per trip. At current prices gas for a fishing trip to the lake I normally go to cost $35 for truck and boat. I work 21 miles from home. That's 210 miles a week to go to work. I get 19 mpg not towing. That comes out to ~$39 dollar a week to work. So..........work is more expensive than fishing.
  10. I suspect that, like myself, most of us spend a BUNCH of time at work. It's easier to work with friends than enemies, or even strangers. If you can't tell between a real friend, or just a colleague/work associate decide if you would ever see them again if you or them left that job. I have several work friends, and 1 real friend at work. We fish shoot and hunt together and would keep in touch if one of use left our job. He lives 10 miles or so from me. We share some mutual friends but never met until we worked together. I suspect things in small town areas like where I live are different that more urban areas. All of y'all are my internet friends. If you're coming through Grover NC let me know. We'll have lunch, or go fishing.
  11. I change my mind too often. For several trips I'll fish the same location over and over, possibly catching the same bass multiple times. Then....I'll decide I'm not going to fish anywhere I've previously fished.
  12. Hyundai has a special policy/extended warranty on many of their engines. Call a dealer with your VIN and see if it's covered.
  13. When people online are discussing.....anything, where they're located probably makes a big difference. As I stated earlier I use 12 pound mono for pretty much everything including deep cranks. I rarely fish in a lake or area where I "need" a crankbait to go 30 feet deep. Some people fish in areas/lakes where they may need every inch of depth possible. For me, if I'm deep cranking if a DT16 doesn't go deep enough I'll put on a Dredger 25.5, or an XD10.
  14. IIRC Minn Kota recommends the prop be 12 inches into the water. I normally keep mine around that. When the wake boats are out sometimes I have to put it deeper. I don't normally get super shallow with my trolling motor.
  15. Or, buy a bunch of both, cut them down the middle, glue the to different half's together. (I wish I was good a photoshop. I'd post a picture)
  16. MY boat has storage under the seats. I keep the compartment under the passenger seat empty. I put my trash there and empty it when I get home.
  17. It's a personal preference thing as long as your gun cycles your chosen ammo. My chosen defense ammo is Speer Gold Dots. Several local law enforcement agencies use it. I don't believe in "magic" ammo. I do feel that if I were involved in a self defense situation where I used my firearm my ammo choice would not be held against me since local law enforcement uses it. I wouldn't have to justify using "special killer bullets". A plus, at least for me it Speed Lawman, in the same weight shoot exactly the same as Gold Dots. Some (or all), underpowered, or inconsistently loaded "bargain" ammo will have a POI that's quite different that quality defensive ammo. My EDC ammo is Speer Gold Dot 125 Grain in .357 sig. A co worker carries a S&W 5906 with Speer Gold Dot 124 grain +p ammo.
  18. You don't have too if you set the tension loose enough. I hate spinning reels. I pretty much never use them. I hate the twisted up line and I simply can't cast them. I could be in the middle of the ocean with a spinning set up and would be lucky to hit the water. I have friends who love spinning set ups, and can cast them accurately.
  19. It depends on the day. Somedays I'm really accurate. Some days I'm lucky if I hit the water. I done my casting into a bucket in my yard 45 to 50 years ago. I think I cast badly when I'm tired. My funniest recent casting experience? I was skipping a swim bait under a dock. The dock was about 18" above the water. It had posts there were ~4 feet apart. My first 4 casts hit the posts. 2 on the right, 2 on the left. I was surprised that I never hit the edge, or the top of the dock. Finally I skipped it perfectly under the dock and caught a 4 pounder. I was 25 feet or so from the dock.
  20. No bead on t rigs for me. I use beads for carolina rigs though. I use t rigs for 15 feet deep and shallower, carolina rigs deeper. No real "reason" just the way I've always done it.
  21. In the past couple months I've had several people notice that I turned my lights off while backing down the ramp. They all said they'd never thought of it, and started turning theirs off. My #1 rule for fishing. If it isn't fun you're not doing it right. My suggestion is my signature.
  22. There were deer in my yard this morning when I left to go fishing.
  23. I normally use 12 pound mono for pretty much everything, including deep cranking.
  24. Good job taking your son for the tournament. I take 1 kid fishing occasionally. His Dad won't take him because he's always "fishing with the club".
  25. I caught 14 bass today, including the 8 1/2 Spot. (inches, not pounds lol) Biggest was an 18 inch 3 LB 5 OZ largemouth.
