Thanks for all the help guys! I think I am going to take advantage of the rebate and go for the shimano Ci200D reel with a falcon rod. I bought an avid for my spinning rod last year, so i thought i will try something new and it seems like people like them a lot. Thanks for the input, you have all been very helpful. If anyone else wants to give their $0.02, please feel free, as i wont be buying until after xmas.

Good deals for Bass Pro opening?
I have looked through the catalog that was emailed for the Bass Pro opening in Foxboro. I was wondering if you were to go to Thrusdays grand opening, do they have some great sales/deals that normally isnt advertized? I would just assume a huge opening like this, Bass Pro will have some great deals on reels, rods and lures (also, maybe some giveaways??) If you are familiar with how their opening goes, please let me know! Thanks

Troubleshooting my trolling motor
Hi guys, I have a late 90s motor guide 54lb thrust trolling motor on my boat. I was fishing with my brother one day and it all of a sudden stopped working. We just figured it was the charge, so we charged it and it still wasnt working. All the other electronics/other things hooked up to the battery all work, so we know its not a battery issue. My question is where do i begin and where should I look to start trying to find the problem with the trolling motor?

Need ideas on boat for fishing + family
That I cant help you with. A family friend who has worked on boat motors for his living for the past 25 years helped me find this boat. He has worked on this boat for its entire life and he said that boat was a total steal. As far as looking...I checked ebay for boats that were <500 miles from my house. There were times that ebay had some real nice deals. I also looked at my local want ad. I am sure that there is something similar to this in your area...this is a great spot to find a boat. Also craigslist will do the job. As far as what you are looking for in a boat...I was just as lost as you were. Try to get a buddy to go out with you who knows about boats. If you cant do that...read up about it online and make sure you ask a lot of questions. You will get a straight answer from the boat owner for the most part.

My first boat
Well, before I signed up for a poker tourney online I told myself I would buy myself a boat if I came in 1st or second. I came in 2nd out of 1600 people and won 6k...so my bro and I got something we have always wanted...a boat! Its a 1993 cajun fish/ski with a 1988 (i believe?) johnson 90hp engine. The boat is super clean and looks great. The engine fires up every time so far. We have hit low 40s in this boat with 2 people in it...I will prob rely on a better reading such as GPS or something...but it will do for now. 54lb thrust motor guide trolling motor on the front as well as a fish finder. We got a great deal on this boat for only $2,800. We are very excited!!!! Dont mind the mess...its clean now!!!

Need ideas on boat for fishing + family
I got a 1993 cajun with ~200 hours on it for a steal at $2,800. Its 17ft w/ a 90hp johnson. There is a ton of room in the front...just like a bass boat and a platform with a seat off of the back. The other upside to this is you can go low 40s with 2 people in the boat...so she goes pretty fast. I am totally satisified with the fish/ski purchase...so much more versitality without having to sacrifice many of the bass boat features. I am trying to get the pics off of my phone so I can post a few pics...hopefully a new post will come soon with some pics EDIT: See this post for some pics of the boat for some ideas: http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1188270672/0

Need ideas on boat for fishing + family
A fish/ski boat. I just bought one. This has the 2 bass boat style fishing seats and platforms off both ends of the boat. They will come with a trolling motor as well. Mine has a 90hp engine which is great for taking people out skiing or tubing. It has 5 seats and is really a boat that has some versatility. When you are fishing on a fish/ski boat, you feel like you are on a bass boat, but when you want it to be a good "family" boat, you dont feel like you are stuck on a bass boat, but a bowrider or similar...if that makes any sense I am sure some of the hardcore bass boat people wont agree that fish/ski boats give you the feel that you are on a bass boat, but i feel like I am on one.

I got the St. Croix deal of the century!
I also just got a steal on a st. croix rod. Avid AS60MF rod was $79.99, regularly $150! Needless to say I couldnt resist. I believe the AS66MF's were $99.99. Man, i might have to get one more at that price.

Fish finders - Whats the difference?
Hi guys, I just bought my first boat (pics to come in another thread), but i just have a few questions about fish finders. I have one off the front of the boat, but not one at the console so I am looking for a second. I was just wondering what the difference was between a $80-90 fish finder and a ~$150 model? Is it just larger and different displays or do the more expensive ones actually work better?? Im looking at the humminbird matrix 12 fishing system for $150 right now. Are there any other recommendations you guys can offer before I buy? Thanks Matt

How to fish a jig & Trailer?
Hi all, I have been reading from a few people on these forums that they have been having a lot of success recently with jigs. I decided to buy some from Bass Pro Shops. I ended up getting four 3/8 oz. jigs (black/blue, texas craw, green pumpkin, etc). I also bought 2 kinds of Yum chunk trailers (watermelon/red flake and crawdad). Here are my questions: 1. How do I pick a good color combination for my jigs and trailers? Should I try to match the trailer color to the jig color or no? 2. Do I just hook the trailer right through the jig hook? (Sorry, dumb question) 3. Should these be fished really slow? Do you just crank a couple times then let the jig settle again? 4. I also bought a Kevin Van Dam swimming jig...how should these be fished? I am really trying to start/improve on fishing with jigs as I feel this is an essential tool every fisherman should have. Any help would be very appreciated! Thanks, Matt
