  1. Is there a way to increase the smoothness of bearings? It is an older maxxar, from like 1993. A classic. Thanks for the reply!
  2. I was looking at bocca bearings, and they said something about upgrading the bearings, meaning that you can switch out your existing bearings, for something sealed with more? I just bought a really clean abu garcia ambassadeur maxxar, and it is so nice! I was just curious if it was possible to upgrade to more bearings, since it only has 2 stainless ball bearings? Thanks for any info!
  3. If taken care of, regularly, the furbit would last just as long. Being that a fur bait has to be taken care of, seems to make people veer away from it, with it's rabbit skin legs. If you dry the legs, and brush them off with your hands, you could have a perfect frog, all over again... I might pick up one of the popper frogs, and the regular frog, just to see what they look like in the water, and from there, I was thinking about getting some river 2 sea frogs. I just bought one of these http://www.river2seausa.com/templates/croaker.html for my father in law, but it's the previous model, known as the Bully Wa. They look fantastic, and very realistic. I think I like them better, than any spro frog... Spro frogs need color adjustments with the airbrush, just to make them look real!
  4. Aside from looking really nice, are they any better than a snag proof frog? I bought one for my father in law, and he likes the way it looks, and feels. I was also looking at the furbit frogs, anyone have experience with those? I think they look really sick!
  5. I see a lot of really cool baits in here, but the best, IMHO, is the mattlures. Though, looking through, again, the, "Vagabond Persimmon Seed" also looks great!
  6. No one knows?
  7. This is one I found on ebay... Mine is like that, but it's green and yellow...
  8. Do I have this by the wrong name maybe? Does anyone know anything about Luxon lures? I can't find anything on them... It has a large heart shaped nose on it, it's flat, and it has a peapod shaped body... Any Ideas?
  9. I personally like Tiki sticks, but the 12 year old in the family loves the senkos. I personally think that they are really close, but my tiki sticks are much more durable! I keep my worm almost every single time, until it gets shredded and gets to the point that it doesnt work anymore... Usually 5-10 fish. I call those my lucky worms!
  10. I agree. These things sound good. I want to pick up a pack. I have had a lot of luck with baby bass colors in the last month or so, but they are leaning towards the watermelon/red color now... I hope one of our local shops has them! Today would be a fantastic day to try it! Mostly overcast!
  11. Does anyone know any information on these lures? I have one, and I assume it's from the late 50's early-mid 60's. I believe it is what they would have considered a frog like color. Are they worth anything? If so, what do you think I could get on the market? Thanks for any information you can provide!
  12. The braking system is what controls that little spindle that holds the line. Basically it keeps the spindle from spinning too fast, or too slow. If you have it adjusted properly, you should have a smooth cast every time. Until you change your lure at least... Then you should recalibrate it to match the weight!
  13. Just for personal preferences, I run my 5" tiki sticks with a 3/0 hook. I just recently bought a couple packages of eagle claw hooks, in red/ 3/0. They are nice, but I need to smash the barbs... lol I love running a barbless hook because it allows me to catch and release easier, and I loose no more, or less than on the barbed. I usually hook the hooks Texas style, with a skin embedded style! That way when the fish grabs the worm, it yanks it down to catch that hook!
  14. Why not? It's not as though she can do any worse than you, unless she's got the home shopping monkey on her shoulder... lol
  15. I used its cousin, the beast, also by Berkley bait company. I had a really nice 4.3lber off it, probably because I irritated her off her bed... Not on purpose, as I couldn't see her until she bit... Was just hoping for any fish! lol That lure produced only one for me, as I only had the one, and now am not able to find anymore, except the online sites... I don't have a credit card, so I will have to wait and see what comes up in the later months!
  16. I don't own all that many plastics, and most of the ones I do have, I haven't ever tried. 1.) Wave tiki worm- baby bass 2.) Wave tiki worm- shad 3.) Zoom 6" lizzard- black with chartreuse tail 4.) Don't know the name of the company- june's choice 5.) And the good old robo worm in electric blue streak, and brown. Most realistic worm I have ever seen, and they work great for any fish! Bobbers are a must for them also! That's just about half of the plastics I own, and lemme tell you, I have no problems keeping the fish off the hook! Wacky rigged, texas, carolina, you name it, they just catch the fish! Especially on a 3/0 Gamakatsu EGW!
  17. This is a great topic. I really need to grab a pack of these toads! They sound like they are quality baits, and at a worm price, that makes it even better. This topic is really helping me with my decisions on hooks, plastics, and techniques. It's great to hear these kinds of results from people whom actually know what they are talking about.
  18. I hear that! My second or third time ever using a pop-r in my life, the only top water I ever have really used, other than my heddon torp, and man, the explosion was amazing! It was as though the fish couldn't resist the things! I was rediculous! I was totally hooked, though the explosion was more of a swirl, I blinked, and it was over! haha I did get the fish up to 3 feet of the boat before realizing that I never set the hook, with all the excitment! I must have forgot... Oh well, next time! haha
  19. I just tried out the classic pop-r! I have one in frog print, yellow on the bottom, and black spots on a green base. I caught a really large fish on it, and lost it! I was a little discouraged, but I caught another, and also lost it. Great lure otherwise! I just need to learn the 3 second rule, then to set that hook hard! I am a newbie on it, and I will figure it out. My personal favorite way to pop it, is to hold it really low on the water, and chug it along ever 5-10 seconds. This works amazing just before sun down!
  20. I have studied the fish on Clear Lake, for some time. I noticed that surface fishing out here in Cali, is futile, until later on in the early summer, rather than pre/post spawn periods. Also, the dawn/dusk is easier to get a hit on the top. Everyone here probably knew that already. I use something that sinks relatively fast, so that it gets to where I want it, and hit the hogs on the bottom 5 feet. Being that our lake is relatively shallow, they don't have a choice of going too deep! If you run that frog out, and a fish hits it, lower your rod tip, give it 3-one thousands, and smash it! I don't think one time, that I have ever missed a fish because the hook didn't set properly, so heed that, and what others are saying, and treat it like it's life or death! The guys here seem to have it covered already, listen to them! A lot of these guys have much more experience than I do! lol I'm still a noobie! A full year under my belt is all I have to vouch for!
  21. You know how you fix this, "disorder"? You take your money out of your wallet, except maybe 20-25 bucks. You give the rest to the wife. And tell her that no matter what, not to let you have any more! haha I do that, so I don't go overboard! I too have this over erratic tendency to spend more than I can afford on a specific thing. I don't get myself in too much trouble, as I set my limits, according to my amount in hand... Which is usually $15 bucks. You have to stay within your limits, or just don't bring any money with you! This also keeps your amount of gear down... Eventually, that little bait monkey will shrivel up and die!
  22. I bet if you used an EWG, and sliding weight, that you could rig it much like you would every other bait. Texas or carolina, your choice! Tell us what happens!
  23. It looks like it's a very good frog, mostly due to its easy setting design. Looks easier to set the hooks than the original frog by snagproof...
  24. My fiancee bought a fuji film s3000 or something, a year ago. it takes wonderful pictures, and it was like 120 bucks, and it came with a 16mb card. You can also get the XD cards, along with the camera on ebay, I think she might have spent a total of 150 bucks. It's like a 5-6mp camera, 20x optical, 6x digital... I don't know all the specs on it. I just use it, and it takes pictures for what I need it for!
