  1. Heddon Pop N image jr is my new favorite topwater I like it much better than the Pop R , I can pop it lightly and it has a walk the dog action as well as the popping action all in one I have caught over 200 bass the last couple months on them here are pics of a couple bass from the last 2 days the color I have on in the pics has been my best producer
  2. I caught the sick bass today , this one was so skinny his eyes were sunk in his head, I catch them like this quite commonly in the lake here , they are overpopulated
  3. The 14 dollar pole strikes again this evening lol , I feel sometimes I do better with less , I take usually 3 basic lures with me when I fish , A topwater, soft plastics and either a crankbait or spinnerbait . I seem to catch less if I have a big tacklebox full of stuff to try and decide what might work better
  4. Wild looking lures I finially caught one about 40+ pounds off of bread, A neighbor lady threw bread out for the ducks and the carp started eating the slices floating on top , so I went home and got my bait pole with 8 pound test and threw a doughball out where they were feeding and bam one run with it . It was a heckuva fight on a 12 dollar pole and 8 pound test. here are a couple pics they arent good as I was fighting the fish and trying to snap pics ,
  5. I agree you dont need much money for tackle , All my good bass stuff is in my storage in NC , so I went to wally world down here in Florida and bought 2 rod and reel combos the spinning combo 14 dollars the push button 12 dollars , I have caught 250 plus bass on the spinning reel and some nice fish on the pushbutton one was a 40+pound Grass carp a few days ago and some big turtles on 8 pound test. Turtle 40 + pound plus Grass carp on 8 pound test
  6. Snapping turtle or a soft shell turtle
  7. I have been catching a lot lately on a Culprit 10 inch worm in Plum Color but no big ones I even caught a couple bass smaller than the worm lol
  8. So your the guy who has been catching all my fish > ......lol ;D Be careful some people keep a shotgun loaded for people that sneak in to ponds. I ask permission I have found thats better now that I am older and cannot run like I used to lol ;D there are several trout ponds in NC that people do that ..I wouldnt do it to a private person because those fish cost money as does the feed and pond maintenence There was a place in NC the Asheville watershed that a person could jump the fence and on a still night when the frogs were chirping catch a bass nearly every cast on topwater and the smallest ones were 4 or 5 pounds. And the bluegill there were 2 pounds they hit topwater as well Thats what I was told anyhow
  9. Well I have caught more with a pop n image jr at night this year than anything else. I fish it slow a lot of strikes come right after it hits the water before i ever twitch it, I tried jitterbugs , crankbaits ,etc. And always go back to the popper. And I tried various colors I know everyone says black but I catch mine on a light colored lure ...Why I dunno , but they seem to strike it more, and miss it less than black. I have caught twice as many fish on a dark moonless night (new Moon) than on or near the full moon. And I like to fish from 12 am to about 4 or 5 am seems to be the best times
  10. Well the size line directly affects the action of some lures in my opinion especially topwater . A heavier line has more of a downward pulling motion on the nose of a bait . And seems to be less flexible and limits a lures action .. That is my opinion I know the line test makes a difference . Maybe someone can explain it better though.
  11. Yep it does " Home Of The Whopper" since you wanna know ;D And Fish Chris there is always an upside to him keeping those , It will give the larger bass that are in there a chance to get even bigger . I have found that the largest animals come from areas where they arent over populated .
  12. why... because I was raising 3 kids and a girlfriend and was living in the Mountains of NC and the economy wasnt that good and I was starting my own business , And they were good eating they werent tough , Filleted and cut into chunks and deepfried they were white flaky meat. We ate several meals off those 2 bass . Do I keep many big ones NO and dont try to keep spawning bass either . I let several 5 to 8 pounders go this spring and have only kept 12 bass out of 250 plus i have caught this year. I used to raise a garden , hunt kill 5 or 6 deer a year and fish as well . One of the tastiest fish I ever ate was a 64 pound Flathead catfish. I really enjoy the food put here for us to eat and am thankful for it
  13. Well I tell you what the economy now is relevant I was born Poor and worked hard for what I have I wasnt born with a silver spoon in my mouth I was born with a fillet knife in my hand . I appreciate the bounty the man above provides , I eat bass heck yes I do , I fed my family many meals of fish even an 11 pounder and a 9 pounder I caught one day . There was no fan fare no pics just a great meal the me and family enjoyed Do I waste bass NO that is disgusting and sickening as long as the guy ate them I see no harm done those bass had plenty of time to pass on their genes in that lake. How do yall hunt a deer ? with a tranqulizer gun? I dont keep spawning bass if I can help it but I did catch a couple the other day that should have been spawned out here in FL but they werent . I thoughrouly enjoyed them they were tasty And you know what I was so thankful for my meal I even fried the bass roe ... Yep thats right those aint hushpuppies the edge of the plate I ate 10000 bass in 2 bites! Bash me I dont care I will continue to eat a bass if I want to and feel good about it since when did they become endangered?
  14. Well I have a question What would George Perry have done with those bass? And What did George Perry do with his bass?
  15. I have been catching lots of bass of a Pop N Image jr well over 100 this year a lot at night to I cast mine out let it sit for like 10 seconds a lot of strikes happen then , I usually twitch it twice not really popping it , let it sit 5 seconds or so twitch it again, It takes patience that way but it has worked great for me If its windy I will work it a bit faster and I dont do a deep popping action with it I make it do more of a spalsh than a bubbling poping action I tie a clinch knot on mine it has a split ring where I tie it so the knot shouldnt be a factor, I like the shape of the head on them you can do a walk the dog type action with a popping action at the same time , Maybe your line is too heavy? I use Trilene XL 8 pound test I will see if I have a pic of the color I use its kinda like a shad color on its side and purple on top , It is outfishing any other topwater I have found , even outfishes a black Jitterbug at night

Kewl idea Avid , I was doing well on a chatterbait till the past couple weeks now the bite on them has slowed , I might try some modifications
  17. I saw probably 150 bass today if not more The lake here has no cover or structure and the water level is low , I was fishing and got to noticing wakes just a few feet off the bank. I walked over to check them out and there would be 1 group of 4 to 5 bass weighing from 3 to 5 pounds swimming along the banks like sharks their backs almost out of the water . I watched them swim by not biting a thing , Then about 10 feet behind them was about a 5 foot wide by 20 feet long school of bass , all Identical in size about 1 1/2 pounders the large school held a good 20 to 30 bass. Its like the smaller bass were following the large ones it was the wildest thing I have seen . I noticed this all over the lake today I saw about 4 seperate groups of bass like this a few large bass together followed by 20 plus smaller ones Is this a spawning thing or what? they were covering some ground it was like sharks patrolling a beach I watched them go all way around a football sized cove doing this and saw more in other places on the lake doing the same.
  18. Your right MD 14 , I fish in a lake here that has houses right on the water and they spray fertilizer and bug spray on their lawns.
  19. I fished a lot of small ponds in NC mostly in the mountains , I used to do good with a purple worm till about june then a chartruese crank bait. From the 20 years I lived in NC I found the next 2 weeks are the best fishing for big bass , I caught an 11.1 first week of May in 3 acre pond in NC. my biggest bass ever . I like to fish near deeper water in a small pond and near cover try a black Jitterbug at night on some of those little ponds and see what happens.
  20. ok it looked bigger in the pic , my guess is a bullhead then 99 percent sure, You can eat them but cut the fat meat out it gets strong.
  21. I love doing that those shiners can be tricky to hook . I cast one rod out for bass with a shiner and when im setting there waiting on a bass I keep catching shiners and put them in the bait bucket. I used tiny doughballs, some times I will bait an area with some catfish food/chow or even dried bread. I hear oatmeal works good for baiting them in. I use a small hook and tiny tiny bread doughball. I dont use a weight and let it slow sink that is when most of the shiners hit. I also throw little bits of bread in before I toss my bait out there
  22. I dunno it looks like a world record bullhead :-?....but it just may be the picture , I cannot see its head or tip of its tail real good. My guess would be a blue cat with an odd color
  23. I add an owner 4/0 worm hook as a trailer to my chatterbaits and they work a lot better on hook up.
  24. I prefer the Heddon Pop~n~ image JR to a Pop R , The heddon has a head thats shaped so when twitched it has a slight walk the dog action , I catch far more off it than I do the pop r I fish a clear lake and 1/2 the strikes I get are right after it hits the water or with in 2 or 3 twitches. I cast mine let it sit for about 5 to 10 seconds and it twitch it twice let it set 5 seconds and continue, I catch a lot at night off it as well.
  25. I have it where I fish as well but the giant grass carp keep it mowed.
