  1. In the winter and fall when they are blowing up acres of threadfins, my favorite name for them is "Green Tunas" When Tunas and Bass chase bait, they look exactly the same.
  2. BOOOOOOOM-SHAKKKKKALLAKKKA.......G-G-G-G-G-G-G-G-G-GIANT BASS! I scream that in Dave Mercer's voice every time a toad comes on board ?
  3. I'm unfamilar with the genetics of those two bodies of water, but it would not surprise me to see that both pure FLGMs and NLGMs were stocked at different times in those lakes making up a mix of DNA. However the F1/Tiger/Gorilla Bass refer to the F1 generation or the first filial generation. Basically the parents first set of offspring. Once those offspring reproduce now you're on the F2 generation, and so and so on. Unless the climate/geography limits the sub species, it's extremely hard to know the exact DNA makeup of Bass in the SE with costly testing. F1 genetics can get dumped into bigger lakes, Northern and pure FLGMs are stocked by state agencies, then you have the Spots and SMs in many areas. The wonderful thing about TX's fish program especially the sharelunker is that they introduce pure FLGM and F1 fry from sharelunker/FLGM fish into the public fisheries. TX deserves to be a the heart of big Bass fishing currently, they've worked hard and care about Bass fishing.
  4. Yeah "Tiger"/"Gorilla"/"F1" Bass are a real blast. They are popular down here for stocking small ponds with. Much quicker growth rates, and very aggressive. The ones I've caught are cleaner looking fish, lighter in color with more vivid marking. They pull harder than the avg. LGM as well. Like all hybrids though, you lose that vigor the more generations you breed away from it. It's really only the first generation of stocked fish that have the best of both genetic expressions.
  5. I'm paying for it now most certainly, most days it's close to 110 felt heat, mixed in with thunderstorms and humidity so thick it's like a wall. Oddly the fish still bite, but I just can't deal with that level of suck on the water. One thing that makes your fish extra awesome is that their pure Northern strain, just a much more aggressive fish than the FLGM strain. Once you get down here, it's a genetic soup, some places get stocked with pure northerns but then after a spawn or two it gets diluted again.
  6. Zero, I ate them as a kid, then as an adult I learned how and what they were made of ?
  7. Daiwa is smart, they won't let that clicking drag trickle down to the non Made in Japan models to my knowledge including this new Tat 100. It's life changing the first time you get a toad that screams drag on them. Seems my wallet is safe from a Steez for another year, although I really want them to release a new Steez SV TW.
  8. I'd trade Alaska flying for Mexico DD fishing any day of the week, and twice on Sunday. I understand though, but as you said, one door closes, another opens......I'll be checking the mailbox for my invitation to the unmolested Mexico lake ?
  9. That kid's head is still spinning in the locker room, he's like what just happened.....The Braves 1st inning offense just happened kid ?
  10. Haha that's epic, grew up watching that dude as well. His son seems like a class act as well on the Elite Series. Shows that Bass fishing is an addiction, dude's out there in knee braces fishing from the bank after everything he's accomplished in his Bass fishing career. That's pretty cool!
  11. If they're already released, all you can do now is let mother nature take ahold. edited....I see the size and number. At those sizes, enough should survive to establish a population. Too small and whatever was in that pond would likely eat them before next spawn. Awesome, and congrats!
  12. That's great to hear, you have certainly inspired and taught countless people on here, including myself. There are some really great humans on this forum, hope you guys get to take many more trips together!
  13. Amazing job Katie, you're an amazing human!
  14. they restock often.......i had to wait a week or two until it got restocked. It's the perfect reel for that "buy once, cry once" reel.
  15. I use it on a 7" M Fast Alpha Angler Wrench with 8lb Invizx as a do it all single spinning rig in the boat type deal. Either way to me once you are going to be spending a couple hundred on a reel, might as well get a "made in Japan" model.....bit cheaper to do that with baitcasters than spinning reels it seems though. You can get a Zillion SV TW for $250 that's made in Japan, but I'm not aware of a cheaper made in Japan Daiwa than the Certate. You won't be disappointed in this particular reel, it has a wow factor for sure.
  16. Personally speaking you are kind of in no man's land in regard to actually made in Japan reels. For that amount of money, I'd rather save up a little more and get one of the true JDM reels, not one that's made in Malaysia, China, Vietnam, etc. at that price point. For $290 you can get a Certate 3000 CXH......reel blew me away, I'm sure there are a few better spinning reels, but I won't ever need anything more than what it offers. Buy once, cry once, treat yo'self....yolo, let the monkey take the wheel....do whatever must be done ?
  17. Statistically speaking, this is likely the best first inning offense in the history of MLB.
  18. Yeah it's a long season.......some years the best team from start to finish wins it, other years a team like the Braves in 21 win it when they were below .500 at ASG break. Ultimately it's all about that October magic, capturing lightning in a bottle at the end of the season. Phils last year were a good example sans not winning it.
  19. This Marlins series will be quite telling, they're super hot, and again they play a brand of baseball that gives the Braves fits hitting for contact. Mets should have been like the Marlins this year.
  20. Mine told me they work so well to make up for the shame spinnerbaits have cast on the Wired Bait family name ?
  21. Their offense is so dominant that it's covering up for some of their big pitching holes. From an offense perspective alone, I'd agree with you.....best Brave's offense I've seen ever. On the other hand I've seen them have significantly better pitching, and defense. They'll keep looking good until the Fall, at which point they will have hopefully solidified their rotation and bullpen in order to make a run at the WS. Marlins are going to give the Braves some problems as they are a contact team, I imagine Soroka will give up 3-4 runs tonight. Either way, their amazing offense, and Acuna finally maturing into the man and player he should have been a year or two ago makes them must see TV in my book.
  22. Check out the Alpha Angler Chatterbound.....best overall moving bait I've used. Works great for all those things you listed sans really small CBs. Most folks throw those on spinning or BFS anyways.
  23. In your scenario, and assuming the blanks are made by the same company......you should focus your attention to the mid section of these rods when understanding your question. You want a pure medium for any CB in theory because you want the mid section specifically to give when hooked up on a treble hooked fish. On the other hand, you want the added "medium heavy" in the mid section of a rod that is used for a single hooked bait with rather large diameter hook that most bladed jigs come with.......hints you need a little delay in the tip, but you need that mid section stiff horsepower pretty quickly to drive the single hook home. So you want the pure medium for Cranks You want the medium heavy with stiffer mid section for single hooked moving baits like a bladed jig. Rod jargon and terms are very nuanced....one man's medium, is another's medium heavy, but for the most part what I said above will hold true when comparing rods from the same mfg.
  24. I can assume OH Ivie is number 1? Hard to imagine a list that doesn't put Ivie and Toledo Bend at #1 and #2 respectively. Then again I'm a big green Bass man.
  25. For us rednecks, spawning SMs is something we know little about, but after this tourney and some additional things I've learned, they're vastly more predictable, and aggressive during the Spawn. It's worth pointing out that the NY state record was broken last year and would have been broken again this year by the same angler fishing in a tourney. Sounds to me like he knew exactly where to come back this year to find the fish, and sure enough he did. He caught this fish in a derby before the MLF event this year.
