just couldn't finesse this one
Women always seem to think that a garage is meant for parking cars. Where do they come up with this crap?

Be careful out there!
He took a wave over the front of the boat which knocked him back and engaged the kill switch. Before he could reattach the kill switch, the boat turned and started taking on water over the back. I guess it happened really fast. It was on Oologah Lake which is pretty much universally thought of as the most dangerous lake in our area. It's a wide, north/south running lake, and when there is a strong north wind, it can be absolutely brutal. We had 20-30 mph winds on Saturday. I've moved around a lot in my life, but I've always considered Oologah to be my home lake. I couldn't tell you how many boats have sunk in that lake.

Be careful out there!
This happened to a friend of mine on Saturday. Fortunately, he and his tournament partner were picked up by another boat, and nobody was injured.

My very first bass! Let’s Review
Congrats on your first bass! Surely, there will be many more to follow. By the way, I caught one of those elusive rock fish last weekend. I've actually become quite proficient at rock fishing. Yours looks like a little male rock. If you want to catch the big female rocks, I suggest changing your hooks to Mustad Triple Grips. I get much better hook ups on rocks with them.

Tungsten VS Lead Shakey Head
If you are using a decent M/XF "sissy stick" spinning rod and quality line, the difference in sensitivity between lead and tungsten is minimal. With that said, my all time favorite shakey head was the Tru-Tungsten Ikey Head. I liked it not for the added sensitivity of tungsten, but for it's compact size and it's fine wire, EWG hook. When Tru-Tungsten went out of business, I bought Tackle Warehouse's entire inventory of 1/8 oz Ikey Heads. I have about a half dozen of them left, and they're reserved for special occasions. These days, I primarily use lead.

Non boater ethics??

Has a bass ever taken away your rod and reel?
I just caught a lost rod last weekend that had obviously been underwater for a very long time. I wonder if a fish took it away from someone of if it was simply dropped or kicked off a boat by accident. Of course, somebody could have just thrown an Iaconelli fit and tossed it into the lake on purpose!

Non boater ethics??
Personally, I welcome input from my co-anglers. I may or may not do what they're suggesting, but I'll certainly listen. I once had a co-angler save the day when a hard rain the night before a tournament muddied the areas I had planned to fish. He was a local guy, and he knew what parts of the lake would be most likely to have cleaner water. Next week, I'm fishing the Bassmaster Open on the Arkansas River as a co-angler. This time, I'll be the local guy, and there's a good chance that I'll be paired with pros who are not as familiar with this stretch of the river as I am. I plan to be upfront with them and let them know that I live nearby, and I fish the river often. If we are struggling throughout the day, I will subtly remind them of that and make a suggestion. Maybe they'll listen, and maybe they won't. Either way, I'll understand that they have a lot more at stake in this than I do, and I won't get my feelings hurt if they don't heed my advice.

Blue's Multispecies Challenge
Is snagging allowed? A spoonbill (paddlefish) would add a whole lot of inches fast!

Grand Lake tips?
I'd follow the elite pros as a spectator and leave the fishing to them. If you want to do some fishing while you're down this way, make the short drive down to Spavinaw, Eucha, or Hudson. I'd be happy to give you some pointers for those lakes.

Drop shot rod blank
I'm putting the finishing touches on one with that blank now. Obviously, I haven't used it yet, but it feels great in my hand. I'm excited to try it out this weekend!
