  1. Can anyone tell me where I can get ahold of a decent map of Grayson Lake? I have a club tournament there, and I've never been there before. I can't seem to find a map of the lake anywhere.
  2. I use a 6'9", and I've never felt like I needed anything longer for drop shotting.
  3. My Flippin' stick is 7'5", and I was thinking about using roughly 5' of the 17# fluorocarbon. Does that sound about right? Do you think that 17# fluoro is too heavy (stiff) for flipping?
  4. Those of you who use braid with a fluorocarbon leader for flipping, how long of a leader and what size fluoro do you normally use? I normally don't use a leader for flipping, but I have two partial spools of 17# fluoro (maybe 50-75 yards on each), and I'm looking for something to use it for. It's so expensive, and I don't want to throw it out, but it's not enough to fill a reel.
  5. I've been active Army for 14 years. I was in Iraq Aug '05-Nov '06 and again Dec '08-Dec '09.
  6. Did you break two rods in a week? How many do you have left?
  7. Yes! This second one is awesome!
  8. That's kinda what I was thinking, a white border on the left side of the mouth and a blue border where the white line is between the dorsal fin and the "I". Other than that, I think it's pretty great.
  9. I just read the Tackletour review. You're right, it wasn't too favorable. Now for my next question... Why do Tackletour and Tackle Warehouse both refer to it as copolymer when the spool I have clearly says "High Potential Nylon Monofilament Casting Line" on the box?
  10. Most of us have seen the Machinegun Cast commercial, but has anyone tried it? I got a spool of the 12# just to try it out. It's pricey for mono ($20 for 165 yards), but it seems like really good line. I can't wait for some warmer water so I can actually fish with it.
  11. How much backing do you use on your reels? Do you fill 1/4 of your spool with backing or 1/3 or what? Do you use a different amount on spinning reels vs baitcasters?
  12. I was only asking about the Carolina rig. I call the short piece of line tied to the swivel at one end and the hook at the other a leader. It doesn't matter if they're the same line or not, it's still a leader.
  13. How do you fish a Carolina rig without a leader?
  14. Really? Are you talking about your main line or your leader?
  15. My favorite is Green Beans Coffee. Who else knows what I'm talking about?
  16. TW is already sold out of the 1.5 and 2.5 chart/black back. Back ordered for a month. ;D Last year, I fished a tournament in Texas the weekend after the Classic. We had a fog delay (imagine that), and as we waited on the fog to lift, I started looking at what everyone had tied on. I didn't see a single boat (mine included) that didn't have at least one rod on the deck with a Red Eye Shad tied on.
  17. Sam, I'm not from WV. I've only lived here for a few months. And trust me bro, they know what's coming. They got a taste of it in Baton Rouge last fall, and I really feel like LSU will be a better team this season while WVU will be worse. Anyway, if you want to get my attention, you'll have to bring your boys to Oklahoma Memorial Stadium and walk out with a "W". Les Miles is one of only two coaches to do it in the Bob Stoops era.
  18. Did he really spell "skunked" wrong the first time?
  19. Rowyourboat, I think you'll be happy with the Z7. I have a 2008 Z6 which is basically the same thing as the Z7 only smaller (17'9") and it suits me just fine around here. It is a very stable and smooth riding boat for it's size. I did get caught in some sudden, strong winds when I was living in Texas, and that made getting back to the ramp a little more exciting. But on these smaller West Virginia lakes, I don't have any worries. I also don't feel any need for a bigger boat. If WV is where you do most of your fishing, the Z7 should be just about perfect.
  20. X2 It seems like 3/4 of the magazine is advertisements.
  21. This is what I do.
  22. They're not discontinued. They just changed the handle and added micro guides since last year. The handles are now the same as the Helium LTA except with regular cork instead of the marbled cork. I don't know why they haven't updated the pictures. I picked one up because I wanted to try out the micro guides without spending a fortune. It has a good feel and I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a rod in the $80 price range.
