  1. I tend to slim down baits over the winter. My fishing is always three interest; topwater, mid column and bottom. Accordingly I choose the most successful baits of each depth, and then only a couple each. Topwater, a plopper style bait and a couple frogs Mid depth, spinnerbait, crankbait and underspin Bottom, always a Texas-rigged worm, grub-bait (spyder & twistail), and a couple Ned style baits. However, this year I’m on to a new endeavor, swim/glide baits! A new heavy/mod rod with an old 200 series reel and around half dozen 1 -2 ounce glide and swim baits has me excited for Spring. My focus is going to be on the bigger lures while having “standard sized” follow up baits to throw but I can see a full day of slinging a 2 ounce jointed lure.
  2. I have one pack salt ‘n pepper and one in white. Been fishing them for many years. Awesome win for the old school. Happy Birthday Hank!
  3. It’s a PGA -vs- LIV event (which will never happen) I’m for it, could be an exciting (as exciting as bass fishing can be) event. One and a quarter mil for the winner is a lot of incentive! @IYAOYAS what odds you giving? I might have to take some of your action 😉
  4. Having read all the responses my conclusion is there is a bait/lure for every situation but YOUR water conditions specific to YOUR waters and YOUR presentations determine what is best and when. There is no generic resolution.
  5. In the last Bassmaster tournament I saw 11 spinning rods on a deck, obviously FFS orientation, and not one baitcaster. Don’t think BFS stands a chance in the professional ranks.
  6. Great thing about them is the 30 day return policy if you don’t like them.
  7. I don’t wear mine everyday but going on four years this summer. I do wear Keen water sandals in the summer when the water is warm/hot but gore-Tex tennis shoes rest of the time.
  8. Always been a believer in Keens Wide toe box and super comfortable but pricy
  9. There is always fishing, it’s what you’re willing to put up with to go.
  10. I’m new to the bigger swimbait/glidebait game. I have a couple 5” Savage jointed and decided to try a bit bigger this year. Bought a new Edge 708 H/Moderate (>2oz) rod paired with my old Curado cu200 reel and 20# fluro. I just purchased a couple 6 & 7” Bait Mafia Daingeros Unloaded swmbaits, 6” Bucca Trick Shad, 6th Sense 6” Judo Ghost and 5” Trace for starters. Don’t know if these are “proper” big(er) baits but for where I fish seemed appropriate for the gear setup and just getting started. Pretty excited to give them a go. Following this thread for recommendations on other baits. Wanting to stay in the 5-7” range up to about 2oz.
  11. I’m already in trouble. One order from 6th Sense, one from TW and a new swimbait/glidebait rod from Edge. And the Wife approved a new Terrova trolling motor. I too hope Spring gets here soon,,,,,,, gonna run out of money!
  12. Used to go to a show in South Carolina that was more flea market than boat show. It was the best, finding old tackle, rods and reels at flea market prices. A lot of fun.
  13. I go for the corndogs……
  14. He was the reason I used a pistol grip 5’6” rod for them “spinnerbugs”
  15. Thank you @bulldog1935 I believe I’m going to go with the Leader you recommended some time ago.
  16. What’s the strength of this line? Looking for a glide bait line in fluro on a 200 size reel. Want 20#+
  17. I agree, I met him many, many (35/40) years ago and then again later and he was the same person. Genuine guy, as most of them are.
  18. “The power of marketing...” My point exactly.
  19. Great collection of old Pro’s. Always nice to see them still out passing on knowledge.
  20. I too am a believer in snaps, which I use on my two moving bait rods. The only time I have to “tie” a lure on is spinnerblades, just can’t use a snap for those.
  21. I found stripping down gear by leaving rods rigged with the baits I used on that specific day, not the “what if rigs”. Took an empty box and placed the baits I changed out during the day in it. After five/six trips I had a great idea of the lures/plastics and rods I repeatedly used and started leaving the extra behind. I also resigned myself to tying on a different lure rather than having”everything “ pre-rigged, thereby eliminating extra rods. If I didn’t miss it twice then it became unnecessary to carry in the canoe. Now, not saying I left it at home, it’s in the truck but just not in the canoe, giving me an opportunity to change out gear for specific locations. Letting go is the hardest thing to do but it can become overwhelming and unnecessary.
  22. As @DogBone_384 stated unless you’re fishing “deep” divers theres no need for a 5:x:x reel on that rod. Which @casts_by_fly noted that rod wouldn’t be a great choice for deep divers anyway.
  23. So they add the word “Ultra” to it to make it new!!,,,,,hummmmm
  24. The terms, descriptions, are coined by Gary Loomis so that is his fight to fight. You have to experience for yourself the rods to gain appreciation for the term. Mag is by definition a “stronger” butt section with varying degrees of taper that defines each model, more like a light/medium/heavy build. Not understanding the construction development to describe each model is not a descriptive problem but an understanding issue on your behalf. Best recommendation is to put several in your hand to better understand the meanings. Pretty sure Shimano still uses his terms in their rod designations so you should be able to somewhat feel for yourself. No amount of explanation is going to satisfy your understanding. I”m sure “linguistically sloppy” is a term hundreds of thousands of users would not agree with, more of an ignorance of the products so not going to argue semantics. Google is your friend, but nothing is as efficient and effective as hands on.
