Daiwa TW reel profile?
Just reintroduced myself to my slx mgl, and it feels so awkward in my hand compared to any of my Daiwas, that crossbar thing in front is too high, my finger hits the pawl thing. Used to be me, then i felt so compelled to palm because "real anglers" do so I forced myself to get used to it. Only i never got totally used to it and now 2x2 feels awkward too. But some reels absolutely make me feel so connected to the whole system when I palm them. Particularly the tat ct. Not sure why, but my medium hands much prefer that bigger reel over the tat 80 or tat elite.

The latest sale thread
I did it Took hours to hunt things down- What'd you get? I grabbed some 4.75 rage swimmers for $2.00 and BBB Kamikaze Craws about $1.50, Berkley Flute worms $1.90, couple Fusion 19 hook packs for $2.70, couple packs of snaps/swivels/nail weights for cheap Northland Tackle frog for $2 Trokar swimbait underspin hook like $3.40 I definitely saw a few other good deals, I'm already maxed on soft plastics. Some good deals on chatterbaits too, but I'm solid right now. I couldn't even think of what else to think of

Reel Maintenance Mega Thread
Leave it alone if there's no issues... got it Since I fish about 97% at night, I'm hoping this helps my blind casts into over hangs and docks Those candied cherries in there? Why limited use for zirconia? I do have a set of full Si3n4 for my Zillion when the time comes, I'm just still nervous to Crack open my best reel. This for gears and bearings? I could've sworn you mentioned using Acetone for bearings. Maybe it was someone else, maybe I'm just remembering wrong. I bought some Acetone and denatured alcohol because of this thread. Still in the shed unopened Glad i haven't opened it yet, I'll definitely use gloves and only outside Was that thing found in a tar pit? Seriously though, how could it get that way? Dam So denatured alcohol to clean everything then? Should I just toss my Acetone?

Reel Maintenance Mega Thread
What should I do with my AR bearing and the sleeve and whatever else you call that whole kit and kaboodle inthat hole? There's definitely a need for a cleaning of some sort in there I'm gonna try a full tear down (or at least a few more parts like worm gear/pawl and whatever those plastic gears are) eventually, at least some point this hard water season

Reel Maintenance Mega Thread
Cracked open my SLX MGL that I grabbed around 2019/2020. I used it for a couple years, then left it outside from about Sept-Dec exposed to the elements. After I finally brought it in it was only used a few times over the next couple years. Here's how it looked Before I did this i took it for a spin to see how it felt I'll post separately on that experience later It actually looked much better than you would think, really looked fine albeit dry. I soaked a few parts in simple green, hit them with a tooth brush, and got this Re-greased, reassembled, and along the way I swapped out the bearings for some full ceramics that I grabbed quite a while ago - before I knew about Si3n4 That's the old bearings next to one of the new bearings I've never messed with full ceramic before.. Very interesting experience When i spun them on the end of my paintbrush they behaved way more differently than I expected. With a light flick they spun for a bit, 10-15 seconds. But if i tried to flick a fast spin into them they started up, got real loud, then slowed way down and stopped in about 5 seconds I guess the best way to use full ceramic is a light smooth cast, as chucking hard as i can would overload them and actually slow them down. Maybe I'm wrong... idk. I plan to take it out tomorrow if I get the chance and see how it feels

Anyone had bad experiences with the release button on Daiwa casting reels sticking or generally not lasting long in between cleanings?
How did you do this and any tips?

Drag Grease Question
I havent completed this video yet, but have watched others on the topic. I'll finish this one as well to remind myself. If you just want a quick blurb about it jump to 5:40 and listen for a few minutes. Should be enough to help you peek behind the curtain just a bit. Be warned, there's a fine line between being informed and being insane. This is just one aspect of social construction and population control. Question everything

Is there a recommended tool “kit” for reels?
"I can take apart the remote control, and i can almost put it back together " Now you're getting it I havent done a full tear down to the bones, but the basics were way less scary once I did it, in my head I already broke everything and lost all the parts so when I was done and it was all good I was pumped Only thing is little parts like washers can get sticky and go unnoticed when you lift something and they hitch a ride. Lay it all out left to right and put it all back in in reverse

Cheap/budget hooks?
I wish I prepared better and ordered a bunch of stuff, I wasn't aware how absolutely outrageous everything would become and how some things would just be not available anymore and how shipping companies would just start adding gouging fees... I plan to explore some amazon hooks, I've come to learn that Beast, Gamakatsu, Eagle claw and Sxinxiping hooks are all relatively sharp enough compared to each other - which is not sharp enough for me. So if I have to sharpen a Gami myself, I might as well pay 1/3 the price to do it

Cheap/budget hooks?
I can't swing those beats hooks man, just a little too rich for my blood. Especially since I found a manufacturer that might be the OEM selling for less than half price on AE (Spinpolar Raptor hooks). With these tariffs on citizens idk if I'll ever buy from AE again, but I'll need to see a crazy sale on the beasts to buy those. The AE hooks are strong and sharp, the beast hooks i bumped into for half off feel indiscerniblely different, and i never went back to them.

Cheap/budget hooks?
I have no idea why that's there haha @FishTank i can understand why you feel compelled to stick with them.

Okay, now I see what you mean, if the bass bites over it it won't get out of the way... fish as is, take note, and if you feel like its losing fish bend tha arm a bit to lower the blade towards the head and see if that helps. Looking forward to your report

The latest sale thread
Definitely keep us posted, I don't have any concern looking at it. Looks like it would interfere less than 85% of spinnerbaits, which have arms/blades at or past the hook bend

Help me learn this new water
Like bazoo said, Google earth desktop will let you view historical images so you can look for low water years and maybe catch a glimpse. If the idea is the learn the lake quickly maybe take the hooks off a lipless and drag that. You can move it quickly and feel ton find any type of structure/cover. Either get omnia pro or something to drop way points, or I think you can drop a pin and save as favorite in your maps app.

So could I swap a tat sv tw103 spring with a tat elite spring and they would split the difference in their performance?

Opening a Hook Eye
Much appreciated munk I grabbed a 4 pack already from Amazon, I'll look at the harbor freight and compare. No drill press here, just a hammer. I have enough hooks to experiment and figure out how much is too much and how much is just enough, mostly using Trapper Tackle hooks.

Opening a Hook Eye
@MickD I have a couple hooks I'm working with that i trust to penetrate and keep a fish on more reliably than other hooks. If itll mess up the integrity I'll just makeshift my own attachment design to bypass opening the hook but still be perform better than a split ring.

Opening a Hook Eye
@Jig Man looks like the take away is pour lead into a mold. That one guy had some luck heating and bending and then for some reason heating again... I'll start with a light punch, and take it from there I suppose. I have zero possibility to ever pour lead in my house. My plan is to use bolt cutters to split open a bullet weight or egg sinker and then do something like this, but attach the blade. https://youtu.be/IA0MDfHE2pU?si=m5ZcO-3AMXv6L6Fr

Opening a Hook Eye
I'm only trying to slide a chatter blade through so not much. I might punch a couple open and see how it goes.
