  1. I just got back into fishing last year after a 25 year hiatus so I’ve been hitting it pretty hard to make up for lost time. First outing was July 3rd, picked up a used canoe for just over nothing on July 6th… I’ve bank fished for 1-5 hours a day at least 3 days a week since and taken the canoe out at least one day sometimes both every weekend except those we had a skim coat of ice. My best bank trips have been before work. October 18th from 7:00-7:45 when I had to wrap it up I caught 3 LMB(2 dinks, 1 3lb), 2 Chain Pickerel and 12 Yellow Perch. I’m hoping to relive that morning soon. Edited to add context. I have no children and a very stressful job. My wife is an angel that realizes what fishing does for my mental health is priceless.
  2. That’s incredible… I can’t catch a bass to save my life right now, you may have found the most energetic fish in the state right now.
  3. Went out for a few hours yesterday throwing a jerkbait and spinner bait… skunked. It’s starting to warm up so I’m really hoping the bass start getting active.
  4. South Shore in the house, Whitman here… Major MA representation on the old BassResource.
  5. I want for the answer to be whopper plopper, frog or popper because I’ve bought so many and love topwater so much. If I’m being honest though it’s a ZMan Ticklerz ned rigged, likely green pumpkin. Fish in my ponds absolutely destroy that bait, but not literally since I can catch 20 plus fish before I inevitably lose it.
  6. That’s awesome, I like dogs more than people.
  7. Welcome aboard. What kind of dogs do you have? I grew up hunting with Labs, one was good upland and the other excelled with water fowl.
  8. Thanks for looking, The 55 is what I’m hoping for but I really want to wait for a sale… maybe the spring classic sale gets it to a price I can swallow.
  9. Are there any transom mount trolling motors in that flyer? Specifically Minn Kota endura max?
  10. I’m definitely interested but I have to give you something for it… I’m out of town a few days(headed to MN for my in-laws 50th anniversary) but we’ll figure it out sometime before spring, or earlier whatever works for you. You ever fish for trout, I was thinking of trying to fish the stocked trout this spring. The MA wildlife site gives a schedule of when and where they stock. I’m specifically eyeballing Long Pond Plymouth for trout and there’s supposed to be smallmouth in there.
  11. A lot of the water I fish was super weed choked this past season. My best pattern at the Grove is pulling fish out from under the bridge on hot bright days… there’s essentially no other shadows on the whole pond and they stack up under the bridge. I remember Oldham being great when I was a kid.. I haven’t tried it since getting back into fishing… again my goal this year is to try more water. My number one go to has been Robbins Pond in EB, but it was just flooded by a dam break and I don’t know what the outcome of that is yet. If your canoe is a Radisson or Sportspal I’d be interested, but you should keep it and use it. I love canoe fishing little puddles.
  12. I fish mostly places your boat can’t go, I’m looking at expanding my reach this year though, I want to chase smallmouths. My PB LMB came out of Island Grove in Abington.. 4lb 10oz.
  13. Welcome, I haven’t been here very long myself but have found it to be a great group. I’m in Whitman so I’ll see you out there, wherever there is.
  14. If they were $20 I’d have bought 2 more. I mean the squarebulls retail at $8.99 each. I fished this same combo from Sept through Nov just about everyday and a few days a week since.. it’s a real value at $40 or less… even the $75 retail is probably okay, but I wouldn’t buy it at that. Yum Dingers are my jam.
  15. Although I’ve transitioned toward buying higher end gear I’m still a sucker for cheap combos. Abu Vengeance combo prespooled with some form of Berkley 14lb line and 2 Squarebulls for $40 at Walmart.. second time buying this gear on markdown, use the first combo all the time. They had about a dozen left but several were destroyed in various ways.
  16. I haven’t seen any “big” pickerel yet but I hope to. I’ve lost a lot of ned rigs to them usually just as I’m landing them, that’s why I got a net.
  17. I picked up a 5 pack of size 2 (1/4 oz) Blue Fox tail whips at Walmart for $7ish. Caught fish on pink and black as the previous pictures show.. I’m not normally a snap swivel guy but running 8lb yozuri hybrid I figured it was my best shot at not getting bit off. The fish that hit the pink kind of choked it but with the extra length the swivel provided the line was never in danger.
  18. Seriously… I’m going to crush the barbs though, they were both very hard to unhook.
  19. 2 picks on inline spinners today.
  20. Lost a choppo last week, it was an experiment to see if pickerel would hit topwater. Went out on the canoe to try to find it, no luck on the choppo but I’ll take the free whopper plopper. Anybody know how long it takes for the hooks to rot off?
  21. How about trolling motors, you think there are any discounts coming on those? I got some gift cards for Xmas and that’s what I’m after but I don’t know BPS sale cycles.
  22. I found one this year, threw it a bunch with no luck… previous owner had already put red hooks on it. All that said I love the castability and the action. I may have just thrown it where there weren’t any fish. I plan to throw it again more next season.
  23. My winter plans include doing a seat setup like that and moving the outriggers behind like you had. I also plan to lighten the outrigger crossbeam, while making it a touch easier to install and adding a trolling motor mount and rod holders to it. Ambitious but necessary, I cartop and put it all together at the launch so light, easy and modular is necessary.
