Awesome job buddy! I usually do not take the time to weigh or measure fish. Catch it quick pic just to prove to my wife I can catch a fish and move on. Lately I have been doing an online derby so I have been measuring them. I’ve been catching between 14 and 18 inch smallies. Which I am more than happy with.

I have seen this with other cranks as well. Have also seen the diving depth vary by a foot.

I would ditch the ore idea and use a good sturdy push pole in shallow or marshy areas.

@santafish I don’t know what branch or area you were fishing but the Harrisburg gauge was 4.8 which is normal flow for this time of year.

My buddy had a grizzy 1648 side console with a jet. I believe they are .100 hull thickness. They aren’t bad boats. Pretty stable. They get the hell beat out of them on the susky.

Current with boulders is key from what I see. Either making slack water, creating tunnel of water or just plan sitting behind one waiting for something to go overtop to eat.

I would say 4. I have simple electronics. I feel like I use them ok. I have spot lock. I’m just a poor river fishermen.

@ol'crickety it’s actually not a marsh at all. It’s a flood control lake that is extremely hard to fish because it’s a flat open water tub with no structure.

first and for most check into anything legal related. Just because you could do something doesn’t mean it’s legal to do so with the DOT. Also ones you start altering the trailer you are 100% liable. If your trailer breaks going down the highway and kills a family you are getting sued and you will not win because you altered the original build of the trailer. That being said It’s time for a new trailer. It looks like the weld to the bunk is starting to crack on the upper left toe of the weld in that picture. the sandwich idea I’d do if I was taking the boat straight to get a new trailer. Drilling holes in a rotted frame just weakens it more. You will end up tearing the bolts out. The frame is still going to twist putting all the stress on the flange of the thin channel. it looks like you’d be on quite the hunt to find good material if you were going to go the welding root. You’d have to cut about 3/4 of an inch out on the left side to get to better material. The right side your just have to grind down bulls you’d cut the bunk bracket out and reweld that in when you get a new piece. Then I’d weld another gusset in. DO NOT grind the welds. Structural steel is basically 3/16 and up by AWS standards. Anything below that is considered sheet metal. This is your best bet for longevity. I still recommend a new trailer ASAP. @gimruis it’s a holiday weekend and you get me talking shop 😂😂 glad to help though.

@Crow Horse I stand to fish 90% of the time. Almost every thing I do fishing is done better standing. Now when it’s windy I am guilty of Leaning up against my butt seat but, I rarely post up on it.

Aluminum boats are king around here. Nothing to be looked down upon. I would never say to just get rid of your kayak. I would tell you to use it like a yak. Take alm the electronics and boat BS off jt put it on a boat. Keep the kayak simple and fish out of it like Ol Crickety.
