Is The Susquehanna one of the more scenic rivers that holds large numbers of quality smallmouth?
@Ohioguy25 it is mountainous but, there is a highway on one side and a train line on the other. Actually there maybe a train line on both sides. Once you get to the statute the wall of the highway is right there. It’s a good stretch to fish but, to me you don’t escape into nature. It’s not like a train once a day either. There is a rail yard just down from there.

@Ohioguy25 if you google earth and go south of duncannon you’ll see what I mean. Fort hunter is where you really start to get into the city stretch. If you do plan on going fort hunter south there will be three dams to contend with. Dock street and depending which way you go red hill or yorkhaven. North of there would be better I just do not have much experience fishing it. I would also watch out on islands some of them are privately owned. Watch out for low head dams on your float plan. I think once you get below Selinsgrove you are clear of all of them till dock street just double check.

One-Two-Three
Since I fish mainly rivers I watch the current and use visual clues with how the current is breaking. Reading water becomes very crucial in navigating and finding fish. I probably use 60-40 to 50-50 sonar - visual aids. There are some days I rely heavier on one then the other. As far as bait selection I more go fast medium slow retrieve. Pretty much same as what you do. I try something faster high riding and work my way to a jig/ned rig. If anything the slow presentation can help clean up a few more fish that the crank may not have trigged.

@Will Ketchum I do enjoy that area it’s just a decent drive for me.

Huge Muskie Problem!!!
If musky ate everything they saw. Don’t you think they would be easier to catch? I’ve seen musky pass up suckers on quick strike rigs. I’ve never seen a sunny pass up a live worm.

@casts_by_fly I would have to agree with the west and parts of the north branch being very rural. Duncannon area to long level is where a majority of the industrial areas/cities are.

I LOVE my kayak.
@flyfisher the better you become with a jetboat the less likely you will find the need to use a yak on the susky. You enjoy fishing out of a kayak so I am not saying you won’t still want to use it. Anything above 3.5 you won’t have much issues anywhere with a boat. Below that is when it get dicey and you need to be more selective.

Totally Unacceptable
When I fished at blue marsh over the weekend there was about 5 worm containers and some other garbage under the bridge. If you’re enjoying the outdoors treat it so others can enjoy it.

I LOVE my kayak.
@padon well my advice is when you see it getting shallower make sure you’re throttle all the way down. I have a mph I like to cruise at. Do when I see it getting shallow I dump it. If you can even get up a 1/4 of an inch that’s the different between you hitting or not sometimes.

You're heard that honey badger don't care, right? Well, that is so right!
Nature is tough and unforgiving. The will to survive is amazing. My dog was feral for three years. He learned to fight for his life. He needed x rays on his chest. The vet gave him trazadone and I forget what else. We did this one hour before the appointment. It didn’t touch him. They came out and said we need to inject him with anesthesia. They did that the vet comes back with him. He was walking head low then collapsed on the floor when he saw my wife and I. The vet said that she never saw a dog walk after giving that. They gave him the reversal and he slowly came out of it.

Did you know...
I am guilty of quoting because that is how I saw most people reply back. I have auto follow off as well. I do follow here and there on specific topics. I will be more mindful of this.

I LOVE my kayak.
Ask forgiveness not permission The only issues with jet boats is you will bust them up. Kayaks if you bust them up they are a lot more forgiving.

I LOVE my kayak.
I see their value for sure. I’ll personally stick with my jet boat. That way my dog and dad can go with!

Blue water LED lights question
I personally do not like any lights on other then the legally needed ones. I wear a head lamp and use that if I have to tie. I even cover lights on my TM with electrical tape.

Not convinced I can fish two days in a row comfortably.
Don’t risk it man. I used to work second shift sleep 3 hours get up and fish 8-12 hours. There was times I couldn’t even focus enough to back my trailer into the garage. My eyes would burn from being awake that much.

BFS just a trend
Just another tool in the shed. I already bring to many rods and want one more. A BFS is not in the cards for that. I am just lazy and don’t like retying stuff.

I LOVE my kayak.
I know some people on the susky traded in their jet boats for high end kayaks. They say they like doing that a lot better. I can see the advantages at times. What matters the most is you enjoy it!

Almost everyone piles into Sherman’s creek area in March/April/May. That video earlier this year of Ike being there made it look like opening day of trout. I haven’t been above Duncannon much. From there down to long level is pretty industrialized for the most part. The homeless encampments along the river in Harrisburg are a nice touch as well.
