My Fishing Partner
I mainly fish with my dad and my dog. Sometimes I will take someone else. They are generally a once or twice a year trip though. I don’t really fish with anyone experienced. Trial and error is what I go on. Mainly lots of error. I tend to not talk to everyone around here who fishes either. I used to be like most people. I knew who caught what and where. Now, it’s just a me thing. Sometimes it would be nice to have an experienced partner to learn off of. That’s what I have you all here for.

What’s a “good” day in your books?
A good day for me is a safe day with no issues and beautiful weather. A great day is catching about a fish an hour. An excellent day is catching more then one an hour. Now if I catch one an hour and they are all 4-5 pounds that’s an amazing day. some people measure their success to others. Some are just happy to catch anything. Some chase numbers and some chase big only. Only you can determine what is a good trip for you.

Heat exhaustion

Do you have a hard time getting motivated to go out in the rain even though you know that’s when the giants are crushing?
I used to venture out in it. Now I try to avoid it as much as possible. It’s harder on equipment my boat carpet stays soggy forever. I’ll shop vac it two or three separate times. If I get stuck in it unless it’s a hurricane it won’t end my day. I’m becoming a much more fair weather fisherman these days. It’s for my enjoyment no sense beating myself up just to go out.

Thank you, Bass Resource community.
There is some great info and people here! I’m pretty useless when it comes to info but, love the thought provoking conversations

Coves
Those bass are generally bothered less than main lake fish. They could also be shallower. Running parallel to the bank keeps your bait in the strike zone longer.

Ugg! Summer heat.
I swear I’ve had some hard baits that I couldn’t keep out of fishes mouths. When you loose that one the exact same replacement just doesn’t seem to work the same way.

Why I night fish!
I have not night fished much. I am not a night owl for one. I don’t know how people navigate the river at night. You are also never alone because the catfish guys flood the waterways at night. I hate being ate alive. Oh also the bow fisherman that look like a space ship come out.

NYS Record Smallmouth 2x
I am drooling. He knows how to get those big bass in the bag. He caught the fish of a lifetime twice. Looks like he’s been researching her. I love the from the conservation side of things he said screw that record and put her back. Let that gene pool spread.

Why do folks eat chain pizza?
It depends what mood I am I’m. You can also find the chains have deals and can be a cheaper meal than a local pizza shop. Is their pizza as good as a local shop? Most times no. If I want stuffed crust my opinions are chains. I do not care for my pizza shop in the town I live. I will eat it. It’s not terrible just not what I prefer. I usually make the 30 minute drive to a different “local” shop.

Boat trailer guides
I have a tracker 160 it does have the side bunk guides to aid for loading. I know with my truck and an empty trailer it is darn near impossible to see the trailer. I try to use the rule if I don’t see it I am going fairly straight. A lot of ramps I use have no lines so I try to find the edge of something to go off of.

Your thoughts on this.
I knew a guy who musky fished and once he caught a musky on a lure he would date it and hang it up. I never change out plastic unless it won’t stay rigged correctly or I want to change a profile.

Mt. Pocono vacation - Mid August - Decent spots?
i was only ever at nock a handful of times. I know they have them I used to use them a lot. I really do not fish lakes much anymore unless it’s all I can get out on.

Sounds like most lakes in PA east of Harrisburg. Shoreline then a steep main break then flat as a pancake.

Withdrawals from (not) fishing.
There is a time I fished almost everyday. As much as I love fishing it almost seemed like a job at that point. It does end up losing its value. It would be like catching double digit weight bass every outing it just reaches a point of ehhh. As great as that sounds that is the allure to it. The fact you can’t predict or do that.

Things that irritate ya'
People at work who tell me they aren’t going to fix their mistakes. I give them three options. They can fix it. They can get weld tested again and if they pass they can fix it. They can get weld tested fail lose pay but, not have to fix it.

Hooksetting question
The second I feel anything abnormal I set the hook like I’m trying to hit it out of Fenway. I used to do a light hook set or reel down. I feel like I lost many more fish this way. This is not based in fact just opinion.

Aluminum hull thickness
So I am just a river rat and am curious as to what the hull thickness has to do with the ride? Does it just deaden the blows of the rougher water?

Do you feel like smallmouth fishing has gotten progressively worse over the last couple years?
Pollution and viruses is what plagued the river. I’m not saying catch and release isn’t helping. It’s just another helping hand. Also smallies were once considered invasive in the susky.

New Pa. Flathead record
Check it for weights? I can’t say I am a fan of catfishing. Hats off to those who have the patience to do it. My buddy texted me about a month ago before it became official. My guess is it came from the aldred stretch.

I honestly do not know any one who harvests bass. Even in lakes. Pollution is a very bad thing. I don’t even buy into flatheads, snakeheads and blue cats being issues. So far they have been keeping blues and snakeheads out from above the wingo. Nature will always find a way to survive predators. Nature will be ruined by man with pollution and over harvest.

Brought my new Phoenix home today!

In its down times you used to see all kinds of fish float down the river dead. The fish kills and the virus that infected some of the fish did really almost end it. The mid 2000s into the early 2010s was a very bad time. It took awhile to get back to what it is now.
