  1. Some of these comments made me chuckle. Nature is just down right impressive.
  2. I’ve done close to 3 for a one day trip. I used to do 1.5 hours pretty much all the time. Now I am down to an hour or under.
  3. She enjoys the get away and quiet aspects of it you don’t get anywhere else. She might not be the “outdoors type” but, she’d much rather watch a group of deer eating than someone walking down the street. She’d much rather walk the dog down a trail letting him explore then down a sidewalk. She enjoys the boat for the most part. I’m just trying to find her another aspect of enjoyment to it.
  4. Ike robertson Gustafson Frazier Davis
  5. The leafs live to fight another day.
  6. Thanks for the great advice! Just kidding. Just gave me a chuckle.
  7. This is a prime example of where fishing with someone else helps. I fish with my dad or alone. If we get onto something I’ll tell him to keep throwing that and I start switching it to see if something else is better.
  8. I already told her she was going to out fish me I agree with this. You need the whole child and the methodical one to make a good team.
  9. Around here if you spend time in an area and someone sees I promise the second you leave they are headed right there. It’s all monkey see monkey do. I do have a game plan sometimes and if someone is in an area I would like to be when they pull out I’ll head there. If a friend specifically shows me something I have never fished or thought of, I will give that person the respect and not fish it.
  10. Sure I like catching big fish. I frankly do not care to search out big fish only. I just want to have fun and get my rod bent. If I only wanted to chase big fish I’d go back to musky fishing.
  11. @Motoboss @J Francho i am not talking a follow up bait. I am saying you are on a spot and you catch 5 plus in that area on a crank bait. If you believe there are still fish in that area what do you change to if you want to try to catch them. I understand some people catch those fish and leave to follow a pattern. The rivers I fish I will pick apart an area because most times there is more there to be caught than on the initial fast moving bait offers me. Now I’d that bait does not produce anything in the first few casts I’m onto the next area with the fast approach.
  12. I do not use tungsten but I range from 1/4-1/2 most the time. I occasionally go smaller or bigger. I would think with how hard tungsten is that it would provide better feedback. We used diamond grinding wheels to sharpen tungsten for tig welding because of how bad it chews up the stone. I do have a feeling PA is going to push for no lead here soon. They say eagles are dying from lead poisoning from eating fish and deer.
  13. I think prespawn is easier just what I experience. It’s also a regulation here to not make repeated casts at fish in beds. Even in that respect I think the females are there a gone because of other predators in this river. Edit: I also think this only applies to the susky and juni. You cannot make repeated casts at visible beds. For awhile it was also a closed season and you couldn’t fish for them at all.
  14. From what I have seen you won’t find a concentration of big ones from now till fall unless you get some high water. I’m not saying you won’t catch some It just won’t be high numbers of them like the other seasons. I usually see an increase in numbers but smaller fish. Where a month ago I’d see less fish but more size. hit your normal areas as well as spawning areas. It’s a river fish move a heck of a lot more.
  15. Welcome to the club lol I can’t help you much out that way. I’ve never fished there. I don’t know how far that is from hopatacong in NJ it’s about the only place I’ve been east past nockamixon to fish.
  16. This is a slightly different than you but, when the river is super shallow and clear I try to work my way up stream. Fish face into the current so I try to get my baits to them before the boat gets there. It’s not always easy On a lake I would try to find some thick over and get a texas rig up in there. Scent maybe another option. Some say it works some say it doesn’t. It maybe just enough for a fish to want to taste it rather then look.
  17. All great replies. I’m just trying to keep it fun and entertaining for her. @Fishingmickey she doesn’t like to control the boat. Especially at trolling speed with a jet it’s way to much counter steering. She was interested in the electronics side of things some what when I trolled for musky. Lol it wouldn’t be an all the time thing. It’s just a we are going away and taking the boat thing.
  18. @Choporoz she goes on the boat. She’s been out with me often so I understand those challenges. It’s the keeping her interest and I don’t want to make her feel “dumb” which honestly I feel stupid half the time I’m on the boat anyway lol. @gimruis yes I think the panfishing/bobber watching is the way to start and hopefully graduate her into more advanced so to speak. I’m sure at first I will be casting for her so she can get the taste of it and hopefully start catching. Then hopefully that makes her get the itch.
  19. My wife and I are going in a little get away this weekend. I am taking my boat to the near by little lake. I am trying to get my wife to fish a little. I have let her reel in bass a few times after I have hooked them. She enjoyed it. I want to start her off just bobber watching. She’s some what against it. More so the fact “ she doesn’t know how” I want to take the time to teach her so when she goes out on the boat it could be more enjoyable for her. She’s also not really the outdoors type but, cause on the boat because I enjoy doing it. Kind of like I watch her TV shows because she likes them. Has anyone had any luck with doing this? Tips? Tricks? Or is it just a lost cause? I also don’t care if she doesn’t ever get passed the bobber watching stage. I am completely fine with that.
  20. Sounds like a rough day. Free food is always a bonus but, I still don’t think you broke even. Glad you got off the water safely.
  21. My biggest take away was making sure the boat seats properly on the trailer.
  22. What I have seen and asked boat dealerships outboard jets do not need transom savers I do not have to raise it up but, I would still think it puts excess wear on the pump and transom.
