  1. I lose a very long leader because of all the rocks I face. At this rate I might be losing a few feet of braid a year off my reels.
  2. Sounds like an awesome day! One you will never forget. Great catches
  3. Yes sir! Damage wise isn’t too bad. Replace that part and I’ll be good to go. I can even go to some of the electric only lakes nearby till it comes in. It’s the stuff you don’t see that gets you generally. It’s really not that bad. Just like today the river will bite you. doesn’t matter how long you’ve been fishing it. I actually thought at first I just bent the grates because I could still run up on plane. I just wanted to get back to the ramp ASAP incase I was taking on any water. Getting back to the ramp and trailered is the biggest concern.
  4. Thank you! Yeah this is honestly very very mild.
  5. The biggest thing I always worried is when this would happen would I be able to make it back to the ramp. Perfect storm with the way the wind was blowing up stream and the current river height.
  6. Normally I trust my gut and something was telling be don’t go down to the bridge today. I have been there before even at a lower river level than this. Something was just nagging me saying don’t do it but, my mind told my gut to shut it. Well, I picked the wrong rock Shute to go through. I knew the day would come this would happen for me. It’s the nature of running the river. As soon as I hit turned back around. Went up the correct Shute made it back to the ramp safely. I did not put a hole in the hull just dented it.
  7. I do not know if those have spot lock but, I highly recommend a trolling motor with spot lock for a shallow river.
  8. Thank you for doing what you do!
  9. Yeah no doubt. The crazy thing is how the water is calm as glass going up to it. You don’t see it till you’re into of it. The 83 bridge is what I use for reference. I just tend not to go below any of the bridges down stream of city island. Update: they operators were trying to restart their motor and could not get it to refire. The boat did not have a trolling motor and no anchor line was deployed. They went broad side over the dam.
  10. I am not sure if you are familiar with this stretch. It’s incredibly deceiving how swift that water is there. Even no where near a high water event. Then having the boat ramp above the dam which I would say is not more then a 1/4 mile away. Things just happen so quick. My own personal rule is I will not fish at the bridges below city island.
  11. https://www.wgal.com/article/harrisburg-one-man-rescued-one-man-missing-in-susquehanna-river/43590290# Not many details but, always sad to hear about. Especially on a stretch of river you fish. My hats off to the brave people who went into action immediately. Prayers to the family lost a loved one.
  12. I didn’t realize there was such a big variance between boats. I will have to give the dealership a call.
  13. I have tried looking into it. All it gives is a package length on G3s website and a detachable tongue. It doesn’t give a stowed length. I tried doing some looking around online at dealerships for that boat and saw conflicting lengths.
  14. Question for you all. I am curious to roughly how much you gain by folding the tongue in on the trailer? My guess is 20-24”. The new boat I am looking at will be really tight to fit without folding. It will fit though. I would just like an estimate on how much I could potentially gain with the tongue folding. Just for context it is a G3 18’ ccj.
  15. I didn’t know that. I am also pretty sure these are way different circumstances than he has encountered. I respect what he did. Till you experience the way you have to run the river here it’s easy to say go slow.
  16. I have read and reread them. You cannot tell me the water is not Navigable if I can in fact navigate through it. It does not say must pass at slow no wake speed. It says to maintain a safe speed while under control. Safe speeds are determined by conditions and draft of boat. I also am not blowing by people and only giving them 5’ from my boat to them. If I can power down I will. I will not risk everyone’s safety by getting off plane when I 100% need to be on it. They will get wake but, I give as much room as I safely can. There is a reason why most fishermen, all fire rescue boats, all game commission and Fish and all boat commission run jets in the river. It’s the only way to safely and continually navigate the river.
  17. How does this not apply to being on plane? It also states being at a safe speed to safety control your vessel. I cannot come off plane in shallow water. Period. I will cause damage to my boat and quite possibly throw myself or co angler out of the boat. I can run on plane over areas off plane I would be stuck. This is a far different circumstance then a propped boat being on plane.
  18. Just some food for thought. Last few years prespawn they have been shallow and hungry. This year not the case. They have been holding out in deeper water and have not pushed shallow. It has been a fineness game to get them to eat.
  19. I’m convinced they like to be no more than 10ft off the bank no matter what is in their way.
  20. a boat constrained by their draft is the stand on boat in a situation. So this means I need to stay on plane as to keep safe control of my boat in shallow water.
  21. I think they do random polygraphs for this. I know they are competing against each other during the tournament. That also doesn’t mean they don’t talk at the end of the day.
  22. Gotcha thank you! Every once a awhile I load up a canoe with a TM and do some creek floats.
  23. I thought you are not permitted to do this? Or am I thinking of the wrong tournament?
