National Safe Boating Week ~
I can’t say I see many people on the susky wearing them. Even in kayaks. I always wear mine while under power. I take it off while fishing.

braided line
I run suffix 832. I think it has great strength strong yet soft enough to tie with. Its color does run at first. I love masterbraid. I run that on my casting musky set ups. Super soft and strong. Holds water more than 832 though. I just don’t like the price point of it for bass fishing.

How often do you guys fish?
I try to get all my house work done during the week to have playtime. I don’t have kids but, I am on my dogs schedule a lot. The days of doing min 8 hours are gone for me. I’m like you 3-4 hours on the water.

A Rattling Crankbait?
You will never over power that sound. Like stated about best thing to do is make it stand out. You can also try to focus more on the seams.

Susky magic 5/21
Had a great day number and size wise. I built on what I learned yesterday. I switched up to a ned rig. The bigger fish showed up today. I took a buddy with from work who doesn’t fish much or take it seriously. He got his PB. Smallie and biggest fish ever at a 3 and half pounds. He was pumped. He said he didn’t know fishing could be so intense. The wind was blowing pretty good consistently all day. The river was about the same flow as the day before but, was more clear.

I never use baitcasting reels
I use casting for jerk baits, T rigged, deeper diving cranks, spinners. Everything else it’s spinning

How often do you guys fish?
I have been keeping track of my outings so far this year. I am currently at 16 from Jan 1st. Now I am not going off hours fished. This year my outlook is focused on fun only. Sure I love catching but, the days of me not taking a break through the day are done. If I want to sit down for 10 minutes and pet my fishing buddy I am going to. I beach the boat and take him for pee breaks. So I’d say if I spend 3-5 hours actually fishing that’s a lot for a day. So on the low end of things let’s say 48 hours total for the year so far fishing. Now go back to my last couple musky years. I was fishing probably 40 hours a week and working 45 plus hours. I didn’t sleep much. I also don’t have kids, have a great wife and didn’t have my dog.

Susky report 5/20
The river was right around 4’ on the gauge. The water was slightly stained 63 degrees. I tried a weed bed as the first spot. I figured it would be slightly early for this. I did move a decent musky around 40” but, no bass. Went to my second area and lost a bass. I then went to the rock ledges. I had on a spinner with a paddle tail trailer. I can say the bite was on! Pulled out about a dozen bass. And missed about half dozen. Then went to let my dog pee. Went back the spinner was not working any longer and switched to a ned. I picked up 4 more on the Ned then it was time to head home for the day. Most the bass were in the 2-3 pound range.

Aluminum boat sealer?
If you don’t have decking. I would try to find the leak by putting some water in the boat. Now this will only work for the most part if the leaks in the bottom. Next time you have it out try to watch to see if you see water coming in anywhere. Like a transducer jack plate etc. I have friends who flex sealed the whole bottom and it works for a little bit. The best thing is to find the leak and fix it at the source. I would use 3m 5200 sealer if it’s not a spot that is going to see abrasion. If it’s going to see abrasion you are better of trying to weld it. Sorry there is no great answer for this.

Other species while bass fishing.
I’m still waiting on all these 50” musky to bite me off around here like I always heard while I musky fished. I’ve caught walleye, channel cats, flatheads, a musky, carp, pickerel, perch, gills all while bass fishing. I think if you fish enough you’ll end up catching everything. I am still waiting on a snakehead and northern pike.

Little pine lake
@ol'crickety as far as my goal I feel like I’ve accomplished almost everything I wanted to do fishing wise. I did the grind to get what I want. Now it’s enjoying it time. The weather has been insanely hard to get anything going consistently.

Water Level
Anytime there is high water I fish the new flooded areas. Usually the best time for me in a high water situation is after it peaks and just starts to drop. It gave the fish time to get up there. Water tends to clear a tad. They also seem to be hungry. Lower levels have always been more challenging for me than high in lakes or rivers. So rising makes them hungry and move. Falling makes them just slide out. This is what I have seen anyway.

Fishing weather,,,, or not
It has been a very rough up and down spring here. I never thought I’d be defrosting my truck the last half of May.

Braid to fluorocarbon leader
I use a double uni. Most times it breaks at the lure. I also use a heavier leader than I do mainline. I found that works best due to the rocks and current here. I hate using straight fluorocarbon. If you are breaking off on snags it is what it is. If you are breaking in fish that’s an issue. I think some people feel their hooks line etc should never fail. They shouldn’t on fish. Snags are completely different in my opinion. I do get most back but, some are keepers and it needs to break somewhere.

Any hockey fans?
I think with hockey now it’s because teams can only protect so many good players. They aren’t building from the ground up so to speak. I am not sure how the NFL does it.

changes to bass fishing from one day to another.
I like putting the puzzle together. I’ve had a bite last for 2-3 days. I’ve also had it last for 2-3 hours. What changes and triggers this I have no idea. Could it be when they are “on” it’s a new batch of hungry fish vs when it’s “off” the fish have ate and are sliding out of that area. Think about humans. You aren’t hungry all the time. You aren’t active all the time. Fish are going to go through the same patterns we would. I know people say they can be opportunistic feeders but, if they are full or inactive they are just that. Unless you can get a reaction strike out of them.

Any hockey fans?
I like you am a Boston fan in the heart of flyers country. With the way the panthers are playing it wasn’t a disgrace. It was a let down. There is no stat for heart, grit and determination. The panthers have all that right now. The panthers are playing d**n good hockey. When you put up a regular season like the bruins there is no house cleaning needed. You may never see a regular season like that as long as you live. I know Boston didn’t win the cup and that stings. It just proves how hard the cup is to win and how much of an honor it really is.

The worst thing about bass fishing
Kayakers. the super hot sticky days with no breeze. When a fish hooks deep. Pretty much in that order. Also in that order what I deal with the most.

Little pine lake
My wife and I went on a weekend get away and rented a small cabin. Little pine lake is right down the road so I took my boat. I have never been there . It’s a very small probably 40 acre lake. It was very shallow and clear. We had a great day targeting super shallow lay down and drift wood. No real good size but, I’m not really a big fish hunter. I just want to enjoy it this year. Had a decent numbers day once I put everything together. Drop shot and Ned’s. Didn’t want T rigged works and would only follow moving baits. A small husky jerk may have been a good option too. I never tied one on though. The second day was challenging big temperature drop and got really windy. I got skunked.

Any hockey fans?
Can’t feel bad about the bruins getting knocked out first round if the panthers end up in the finals. I love game 7s
