  1. We went fishing yesterday morning for a few minutes at a local creek and didn't get anything. I ended up taking my aunt to town, and on the way back I found this Gerber Tool in the road. Went down to the river and got a couple. Lost that crankbait shortly thereafter unfortunately.
  2. Half of them were attached. We have seed ticks bad there. It's not uncommon to get a dozen at a time.
  3. I've found probably 40 ticks so far this season. It's just a way of life when you live in the country.
  4. Howdy and welcome. Sounds like a lot of fun in store.
  5. I am the other way. A magnetic brake is far more useful for me than a centrifugal brake. I prefer a reel with both but a reel with just mag brakes is acceptable. With just centrifugal brakes I have to think about it more and I have to be much more cautious. Of course you can adjust the spool tension to be similar to a centrifugal brake though I rarely do.
  6. Yes, the history of it is a major part of the draw for me. Also, it's simple. It seems like simple things work, the ned rig and the senko are examples. I actually have a spook that I found a couple years back. I haven't had any luck with it, but I haven't fished it much.
  7. I don't particularly like fishing topwater. I do it if I think it's best for the application, but if I can get bit on crankbaits or flukes I use those. I've went a month at a time between fishing towater, and I fish 4 times a week or more. Now that said, I have decided I am going to become a student of the zara spook. I really like the old school spit'n image, which is more like a sammy than a spook since it has a good belly. I usually work it slow and methodically. The spook, I am intrigued by for some reason.
  8. Here's a question I've been thinking about. Lets say im fishing, and bam, drop my reel in the water. Is it safe to keep using it if it's an instant in-and-out dunk? What if it's in for 30 seconds to a minute, perhaps while I dealt with badly hooked fish? Should I remove the sideplate on a baitcaster and try to shake out the water? What if it's a spinning reel? Should I stop using it and dry it the best I can when I get home and reoil it?

I've got one in my grab and go box right now. I use the 1/4oz size with casting gear. I haven't caught many fish with them when I have used them in the last little bit, but I've lost a good handful.
  10. Glad you were able to recover it. I have a grapple I made for snagging limbs at a spot me and my buddy lost a mess of lures.
  11. I have yet to try the rage bug, but it sounds interesting.
  12. I use the Trilene knot for all lure/hook knots unless I need a loop, then I tie the Kreh Loop knot. I use the uni to uni for tying the mainline to the backer. Occasionally I'll tie a palomar knot just to stay in practice of it. I will tie the improved clinch if my hands are cold, or it's dark and I'm having a hard time.
  13. What are the features everyone likes for throwing carolina rigs?
  14. Very interesting discussion, thanks all for sharing.
  15. Glad you're doing well.

    Howdy and welcome.
  17. Garmin also makes Chronographs. My buddy has one and loves it. https://www.garmin.com/en-US/p/771164/
  18. Wow, thanks for sharing.
  19. What kind of fish is that? and where from?
  20. Glad you were able to make a trip and get a few.
  21. I've wondered about it myself, but I haven't tried it yet. Flukes get tore up at the nose, and where you skin hook them. How does mendit work for an application like that?
  22. Just Kentucky for me. I have kin in Florida and North Carolina, so I will likely eventually visit and fish there.
  23. I have on several occasions considered retiring a lure after I've caught a) numbers, b) a personal best on it. I haven't though. I normally continue to fish the lure until I eventually lose it. I try to fish it more carefully though, not throwing into places I know are more snaggy. I once caught a 6 1/2 pound catfish on a Rapala jointed minnow. The cat tore the rear hook eye out of the body and mangled the line tie eyelet. I retired it obviously because it was damaged, but I kept it until my house burnt down. It was a neat memento of an awesome catch. I think that if I caught a 10 pound bass here in my state, which are not all that common, I'd retire the lure... depending. I have lures that I will only throw where I know I will not lose them, like my Spit'n Image, which my buddy and I have had between us 20 years. What qualifications does everyone else have for retiring a lure?
  24. I pretty much agree. I could also be quite happy with watermelon red. Posts like this what keeps me trying the bladed jig. Once I hone in on the right combo of color/size/trailer, I just know it'll be the stuff! The fact that I have never caught a fish on one doesn't really factor into my equation.
