Bass Pro Qualifier PQX10HD parts
I found a guy on ebay that was selling one new in box and he had all the paperwork including the schematic. He was nice enough to take a picture and send it to me so I have a schematic now and know the part number. @FloridaFishinFool had a good idea to just get a replacement based on size and get a ceramic one which may last longer. I have a caliper and measured it so I know what will fit and have that as an option. The Basspro reel shop called back and left a message they have the part also and so I have that option also, just need to decide on which way I want to go. The levelwind is metal so maybe going with a ceramic pawl is the way to go. Appreciate all the help I know my buddy also appreciates it although now he won't have it as a reason to get a new reel, lol.

I have called but do not know the part number and left a message. I think the pawl is the same one that is used on a speed spool but not sure. Still looking to see if I can find a schematic online...

Bass Pro Qualifier PQX10HD parts
Was fishing yesterday with a buddy and his reel started acting up, the levelwind stopped working in one direction. I told him I could tear it down and take a look and that is what I did this am. I am shimano guy since the reels are pretty easy to work on and seem to just work but they are all pretty similar. I tore it down and cleaned it up, bearings and everything else besides being dirty all cleaned up. The level wind pawl tip appears to be worn on one side just enough to where it doesn't always engage at one end when winding, the levelwind itself appears to be fine both parts are metal which is rare for these days and it is an older reel. Here is one of the original reviews from way back this is the reel - https://www.tackletour.com/reviewbassproqualifierbaitcaster.html So I know I could get pretty much any shimano part since they have many common parts but not sure what substitutes reels would be equivalent to order a new pawl from @Delaware Valley Tackle or anyone have any suggestions? Kind of looks like a lew based reel but was hoping someone could steer me in the direction as to what substitute I could get to get it working again. Thanks

Late Fall, early winter struggles need some ideas....
Wind was whipping today, gusting 20+, tried several things, tail spinner, trap, big swimbait and the only thing that I could get some hits on was a jerkbait. So I threw that a good bit, seems like I was in the wrong place but figured that out towards end of the day, missed a really decent one, jumped and threw the bait and caught some dinks. Funny you tend to catch the dinks and miss the bigger ones, lol. One thing I did notice is I had several followers up to the boat, just not commit but turned back once at the boat. Not sure what I could have done differently they appeared small but the jb was getting attention. I threw a couple different styles, +1 around deeper points and a shallow version, it was the shallow version that was having some luck. Started sunny and ended up very overcast, windy the whole day. I like jerkbaits and have a lot of them so I will try some different colors tomorrow and see how it goes...

What kind of hair jigs? I picked up today a bucktail hair jig underspin.

Yeah there is this one point thats shallow flat and then drops to deep water. In full sun all day, where I caught the one fish. Made me think I was into something and nothing else. That one fish nailed the swimbait but no other takers, and with the wind and all the leaves it was brutal just trying to get a clean cast. Its a pond for the most part no current except the wind and the wind was coming over the point. Dang thats some dedication, im for the more civilized cushy bass boat approach...I just need to get better at trying to find them on electronics and then figure out how to gonafter them, its a small lake and shouldn't be that difficult but it is for me, lol. I enjoy fishing in the winter since its more peaceful but the cold water does concern me and not sure I would feel comfortable in a canoe...be safe.

I've not caught anything shallow, the one I did catch was not shallow per se but off the bank on a point in about 5-10ft of water, nailed the swimbait. I do not see any fish shallow, the lake that I am fishing is really clear this time of the year, probably 4ft or more visibility. I do not have FFS so it kind of makes it tougher to know where or what they are relating to. It was bluebird skies and sunny and hit 70 today, our weather has been far from typical, water temp had risen to mid 50's from the low 50's early this week. Just going to have to keep trying different things, I did throw multiple things today, zman shadtron, trap, the big swimbait (like a 6in keitech) and even late in the day a plopper. Only thing I had hits on were the big swimbait, missed two other fish but think they were just really small.

Yeah I have some blade baits but haven't caught anything on them or a spoon...will keep trying to figure things out. Went out today and it was warm and windy and caught one dink on a big swimbait, another tough day.

Late Fall, early winter struggles need some ideas....
Went out to walk the bank in a couple of spots on the larger lake that they have drawn down a lot...and appears to be lots different than the smaller lake, shad are shallow way back at the end of the coves. Attached a pic of what I am dealing with LOTS and lots of these guys....snagged one when fishing and did see some appear to be busting them on the surface....

I need to try more jigs, like I said lake towards the dam might have some spots 35ft, but what depth do you think I should be focusing on. lake is so small there are really only a couple of points. I think I have some 1/2 oz jigs and will add that to the list. Always seem this time of the year we have wind so fishing the jig may be interesting but would like to catch some bigger fish. What kind of trailers are you usually using, I have lots of craw baits.

Sticky drag how to resolve Spinning Reel
Like I mentioned earlier if I took the whole spool and moved it to another reel it worked fine so its something going on in the one reel. Odd it shows to bearings and I only saw one and a bushing everything else looks correct I do have the 30 size. You mentioned if this part is not flat, which part are you referring to, the metal start part number 719 or a different part. Kind of a bummer since the reel is really smooth otherwise, its just the drag...
-
Sticky drag how to resolve Spinning Reel
Yeah its the line roller that I am referring to, I can tighten the drag down and use my hands to move and it never binds it's always smooth even when tight but when I go over the line roller when its tight it will jump so imho its something going on with the line roller.

Thanks toxic, I can find the bait like I did yesterday, I have hbird 360 and it helps me to find them easier once I see them on 2d etc. I have some blade baits but did not try any yesterday. I guess that will be my main tatic is to find the balls of bait and then try different things. Tried a flutter spoon yesterday and no takers, actually snagged one of the shad but wasn't sure what else to try.

Sticky drag how to resolve Spinning Reel
I think I may have finally figured out what the issue is but not sure how to address it. I do not know all the parts name but on the bail where the line goes at least on the okuma's there is a bearing in it and that assembly appears to be sticking. I never knew there was a bearing in that part I thought I was static. I took it apart and removed the bearing and put it in my utrasonic cleaner and it appeared to be fine, re-oil with 90wt and seems smooth, cleaned that assemble but it still has the same issue. I can visually see the collar where the line goes stop spinning when the drag has more pressure on it and I think when it starts spinning is what I feel it being lumpy. I guess I learned something new but spent way to much time on it and still not sure how to address to solve the issue. If I pull line off the spool tightened down without going over that part its smooth so its nothing to do with the reel or shaft etc, I think its all on the bail collar. Thanks for the suggestions, will follow up when and if I ever get it working smoothly, maybe I will clean the bearing again and use tsi 321 instead of the heavy oil and see what else I can think of to keep the bearing spinning under pressure.

Late Fall, early winter struggles need some ideas....
Well it's that time of year when I seem to really struggle, I fish 2 small lakes (600ac and 60ac) and they take turns drawing one or the other lakes down so this year the smaller lake is the one that is full pool. Water is pretty clear in the small lake 3-4ft visibility if not more, lake has some deeper sections to it about 35ft and the water temps have dropped to the lower 50's. There is lots of shad in the lake, gizzard shad, and I assume the bigger fish follow them around but I do not have FFS so I am just guessing at that. I have tried lots of stuff in shallow to mid shallow depths with not much luck so they do not appear to be shallow or I am just trying the wrong technique. I have tried a-rigs, traps, small swimbaits, cranks on brushpiles mid depth (10ft), spinnerbaits, jerkbait and tried a big flutter spoon yesterday around the shad ball, actually snagged one of the shad small gizzard about 4-5". Had the most luck on small traps but only caught dinks. I fished a small stunna yesterday but didn't throw it a lot, maybe just need to spend more time throwing a jerkbait, maybe try a +1. Just not sure how to target larger fish this time of the year. Just looking for suggestions, I have decent electronics but not sure whats a bass vs other when trying to look for them. Had this issue last year when water cooled off to about the same temp, just thought I would ask and get some feedback...thanks!

Sticky drag how to resolve Spinning Reel
Dunno, not fishing today so I will take another look and see if I can figure out whats going on, no idea at the moment.
-
Sticky drag how to resolve Spinning Reel
Its not the drag, i can swap the spool to another reel and its fine so its something else going on with that one reel. I to thought it was the drag stack but when I move it to a different reel ( same kind) it works as it should. Just not sure what else it could be on that reel that is making it stick....
-
Sticky drag how to resolve Spinning Reel
Yeah i have an using cals drag grease, and they are stacked properly...why I am confused. So i have a newer avenger as a back up swapped the spool over and its smooth, so there is something else I am missing with that reel. The newer reel has washer above the star, maybe move that over and see if it makes a difference, just not sure whats causing it to be jerky on the one reel vs the other, obviously its not the drag stack.
-
Sticky drag how to resolve Spinning Reel
Yeah as far as I know, its a three stack, alternating with the metal washers. Its just jerky and not sure why...

Sticky drag how to resolve Spinning Reel
Little lost hear and thought I would post and get some suggestions on possible fixes for a reel that I have. I can tear my baitcasters down and know them pretty well but just not sure what is the issue with the drag on this reel. It's a Okuma Stratus, DSG house brand, pretty dang close to a Okuma Avenger. It is a cheaper reel but I have had really good luck with them, comes with oil felt drag stack nothing fancy but I have swapped out to carbontex drag washers when the drag was not smooth. If I tighten the drag down it just doesnt want to release smoothly its more like jumpy and not consistent when coming off. Taken it apart multiple times and lightly greased the carbontex washers but not sure what else to try or look for, the reel is smooth when winding forward or backwards just the drag.. Thanks
