  2. Have fished two lakes a little smaller than the one you mention. The first year was great LMB fishing. Both of these lakes were managed by Mississippi Wildlife & Fisheries and fingerlings were put in the lakes with a waiting period of a few years before being reopened. As soon as they open the lake, I'd be on it the first day if I could and more afterwards. You can bet other bassers will, too. The window of opportunity is relatively short before they become educated. Good Fishing.
  3. No, double no. The numbers would be staggering if we knew how many bass were caught on Stren & Berkley Trilene mono. Staggering...
  4. (1) medium casting 6 6" rod & (1) 5 6" medium spinning rod. Casting 12 lb. mono. Spinning 8 or 10 lb. mono. Good shoes, loose cool clothing, some snacks and a winning attitude. Lucky to have the opportunity to catch the LMB. Good Fishing.
  5. I have really enjoyed watching Major League Fishing. The word I hear often is pattern. They are always looking for that. The one who finds it usually wins the deal. My .02 cents.
  6. I have cable with Outdoor channel and that's where I watched it today. I am assuming MLF = Major League Fishing. Good stuff.
  7. Me, too. I now stick with It's a Humdinger & BPS company brand. Get it done at a decent price. But Parker's spinner bait with those Indiana gold blades with a white skirt put a lot of bass in my boat. Used all of 'em down to 1/8oz size
  8. Hank Parker won the Classic using this spinner bait. All gold Indiana blades that rotate freely. They are made with a very thin wire that can be mauled with a vicious strike. I own several of 'em and they have served me well. Good Fishing.
  9. If you're truly on a budget save your money and consider BPS Tourney Special IM7 and Cabela's Pro Guide rods 50 bucks a piece. On sale get 'em lower.
  10. I like to see the glass half full. You hooked the fish and lost the battle. The Bass does win its share of the battles. You have learned from the experience and the next big one is in the boat. I feel your pain. It's happened to me too. Might again. Have a great evening.
  11. Flatheads can be bad bad news...
  12. We catch LMB here but don't brag about it. If you are ever in the Biloxi, MS. area and would like to eat some good fish at a reasonable price in a great and historic atmosphere then try Mary Mahoney's.Your wife or girlfriend will be pleased.
  13. I make plenty of money to go to a good restaurant and order a main course of my favorite fish -- salt or fresh. When on the water, I follow the rules like right now in one my destinations the state has promulgated rules for the lake for fishermen to keep five bass per trip that don't reach a certain length. I give 'em away to those who live on the lake. Crappie and bluegill, too. Be careful taking too many out of small ponds.
  14. I once tried cleaning and repairing a reel thinking an intelligent person could do it with ease. Wrong. Unless you have patience and an eye for detail, you are better off taking your reel/reels to a shop that has a professional on hand who knows how to clean and repair reels. True.
  15. Can't go wrong with T-rigged plastic worm with the lightest weight possible or no weight at all on spinning or b/c. Z-man finesse worms are a good choice.
  16. Have with you a buzzbait of all sizes, chug bug, devils horse, tiny and baby torpedo, favorite frog and walking bait like zara spook and puppy. No set rules. Experiment and follow your own course. Old rules still apply best in the very early morning and dusk and in the middle of night on a hot summer night. Good fishing.
  17. It's a Humdinger and Hank Parker's Classic Mann's Indiana & Colorado blades. Great in the Spring. Good fishing.
  18. Pond and lake management is tricky. Gotta make sure the ph. levels are good for the bass. Is the pond or lake fertilized? Or is it left alone and natural? That does not mean it's bad but how many acres mean something important. Food supply? Fat head minnows or shad? Needs a good population of blue gills. Smaller bodies of water usually need human intervention with good management to ensure a good population of bass. But not always....
  19. Life is good. Great fishing and catfish eating afterwards. Private lake Wiggins, MS.
  20. Ditto. Just picked up a clearance Shimano Solstace2500FI spinning reel for 24.99 normally goes for 40.00. For the money, performs well and is smooth as silk.
  21. Man and his thoughts fishing away in the early morning. Location: Flint Creek Wiggins, Mississippi Source: National Geographic
  22. Use the old Bottom Line fish finder on my small boat that goes back to the 90's. Still going strong and serves its purpose well.
