I didn't bet on the race, but she was my pick to win it. How many top phillies have participated in the race. In recent history the triple crown races have become about the breeders and they want to see stallions in the race. Stallions can produce hundreds of babies a year a mare one. It's in there best interest to exclude the phillies. This is the reason you had two owners that came out and said they were strongly considering entering a second entry so Rachel Alexandra would be excluded from the race. Probably would of happened, but one of the other owners who happened to be a lady said that if they did this she would withdraw her horse to open a spot for the Philly. I'm sure you know this but I think Rachel went of at 8-5 odds. You can bet 100 dollars and only profit 60. The second favorite went of at 5-1 odds, which are decent odds, you can bet 100 and win 500 at these odds. Regardless of her sex it is undeniable she was a pretty hefty favorite. True on the muscle. However, phillies also typically have a tactical speed advantage. Therefore, it isn't near the disadvantage for a philly to start that far out. This is why she was up running side to side with the leader into the first turn. Not 5 or 6 wide which probably would of been a killer. I suspect if she would of broke as good as she normally does the race wouldn't of been as close as it was. I'm nervous about quoting this, but don't know how to research it. I'm pretty sure that a horse has won further out than 13 but never from the 13th slot. I think in the past when there were more entries at least one horse has won from outside of the 13th position. I'm not just pulling this out of my rear. I'm fairly certain I heard it leading up to the race. I could of heard wrong though. Also Calvin Borel knows a thing a two about horse racing and in an unprecedented move he gave up his derby winner and a shot at the triple crown to ride Rachel Alexandra. Seems to me he certainly thought she was the favorite.

I don't understand. Are you talking about this year? Rachel Alexandra was an overwhelming favorite and I think Mine that Bird proved his derby run wasn't a fluke. Not knocking what Borel did, but he for sure wasn't riding a long shot at the Preakness.
  3. Awesome crankbait. I don't know how they sell them so cheap. I wouldn't think twice paying 8 bucks for them.
  4. I don't know much about them. I think there everywhere. For sure not just TX.
  5. Which state is this pond in?
  6. Somehow my buddy talked me into a proposed 10-6 sandbass trip last night. Was pretty slow until this guy showed up.
  7. The carrot stixs aren't as stiff as other MH. You should be able to pitch a 1/4 no problem and probably an 1/8 depending on the hook size and plastic you are trying to pitch. I'm not going to say that it's the best rod out there, but I haven't found one that would beat it for 150.00. They make great light t-rig rods.
  8. Ha!!!!! I killed you I found went into Academy to replace my P-line and noticed those and spent about 200 on just H2O stuff. That sexy melon color is pretty cool looking.

  10. What the heck was wrong with the pic of your 5lber. You have a point and shoot camera it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure it out. What did I do?
  11. Ten minutes have passed and I'm still laughing.
  12. Sorry man. I live like 2 hours away from where that thing is made and have never seen or heard of it. I fish a lot of there stuff and know a ton of people that do as well and can't recall anyone mentioning it. Tom Redington is sponsored by them he could probably give you some info. Looks cool.
  13. Don't even have one. Have wondered what the heck I was thinking though when I've had a couple of big ones on.

Very sorry to hear that. Good luck with everything.
  15. Nice fish. I love the motor.

Great job. I wish our fish were all as stout and fat as yours appear to be. I could live with TX having smaller fish if they were all as healthy as the ones you catch. Those things have to put up a great fight.
  17. First off welcome. I'm no smallmout guy either, but they will certainly will hit what you bought. However, if your lakes are still frozen I would imagine it would be awhile. I would go buy some suspending jerkbaits and tubes from what I hear the smallmouth guys saying. They should hit those before your topwaters until the water warms up. Some smallmouth affcianados will be around shortly though to tell you exactly what you need.
  18. Agreed. Most say though that his story said they left on an overcast day and didn't return until dark. Still doesn't prove anything. Once Perry decided to enter the contest he could of iced the fish until the next day. That would make it less likely, but still possible. I was under the impression that the notary was the lady at the post office. Is that not right?
  19. Dang it I think I messed up. Not the one I intended to order. I didn't notice the size differences on this particular lure. I hope its not to big for some folks.
  20. I sure hope it comes from TX, but I've never understood why everyone is so quick to throw us in the running. We have never produced a bass over 18 1/4 lbs much less 19, 20, 21 or 22. I live in the state and don't know of anyone that is out here fishing solely for a world record. I don't live in CA, but can think of 10 or so that do just off the top of my head. I think we have the best big fish waters in the US, but I don't know about world record waters. From what I understand of CA the lakes that are producing the 18+ pound fish don't turn out the numbes of trophy's like Fork, Falcon, Conroe, Amistad and Choke Canyon but produce monsters. I think CA is the states only realistic shot.
  21. Geez! I can't believe you are standing behind this. What the kid said was as soon as I saw the picture I knew it wasn't my dad b/c he didn't smoke. I'm sure that he has a pretty good idea of what his dad looked like though. If someone showed you a picture of your dad couldn't you say for a fact whether or not it was him? This part of the argument has to be over. Catt, I'm not saying the notary lied or had any motive to lie. However, I don't find it impossible that the notary just took Perry's word for what the fish weighed and measured. I grew up in a small town in TX, you know how us southerners think were all good, ol' country folks, where I don't think it would of been impossible for my dad to get something notarized on his word. Especially if he had in his possesion a huge fish that was obviously bigger than anything the lady in the post office had ever seen. In the 1920's I'm sure a female notary could of easily said huge fish big deal what do I need to notarize. It not like she was notarizing where Perry was on the night of a murder. Again not saying it happened but could of. An inch is an inch and a pound a pound, but we as humans can make mistakes and scales can certainly be off. Standards back then were certainly loose compared to todays standards. To date we haven't even seen a picture of Mr. Perry with the fish. I believe that right there would disqualify him today. However, I'm the first to admit that none of that matters. He did what was necessary then and the records is his today. Even though I have my doubts the picture goes a wrong way to proving the story in my mind. The fish in the picture is certainly a monster. As we all know you can look silly real fast by guessing weights from pictures, but that fish is big. I'm getting a kick out of the guys saying 13lbs. I can guarantee you if ya'll catch one that big and someone is saying its only 13 you are going to be ready to put your fighting boots on. We'll never know for sure I guess. I think I could write a very long paper that made a lot of sense for both sides of the argument.
  22. Catt, Please understand that I have no idea what Perry's fish weighed, but you notarty argument holds no water. There are dishonest, naive or imperfect people in all walks of life. The notary could of easily been lying for Perry took his word for it or just made a mistake. We all have heard stories of judges, policemen and doctors that have just as respectable positions that have abused their authority. The notary could of just easily of been spot on and recorded the whole situation correctly. The standards back then were loose and Perry may or may not of benefited from that. Either way the record is what it is and if anyone wants it they know what they have to do. Dottie proved it is possible.
