1988 Tracker
ok guys thanks for the advice. i dont know if this guy would let us take it out on the water or take it to a mechanic before we buy it or not. he has a pair of those ears that he will include with the boat. the man said that if we buy it he will start the motor up for us...i thought that was weird. why not start i for us before we buy? how much does it cost to take it to a tracker center and have it inspected?

1988 Tracker
hey guys. my dad and i were just looking at a 1988 tracker. its a 17 foot aluminum boat with a 70hp mercury and a trailer. everything on it is 1988. the boat is in pretty darn good condition for being 20 years old, and the guy said that the motor runs fine, and so does the motorguide t-motor. working aerators and plenty of storage. two pedestal seats. do you think that it is a good deal for $2500?

Funny "newbie" fishing mistakes
this happens quite often at the local park. people will either turn their spinning reels upside down or their spincasters underneath their rod! i've actually seen them do this: if their fishing a spinning rod with the reel underneath (correct) and they look over at someone fishing with a spincast or baitcaster ontop of the rod (also correct) the person with the spinning reel will turn their rod so its on top and start fishing like the ppl with the casting reels! its funny. i saw one guy look over at me when i was fishing my baitcasters and i watched him flip his spinning reel over. its also hilarious to see some people trying to cast. they will swing their rod back so far the tip almost touches the ground, and then swing it forward with so much force but either release the line too early and it goes straight up or too late and it smacks the water right in front of them. at my local park, its always fun even if the fish aren't biting because i can watch how silly people are! ;D

FROG MOD!!!
i got the idea off of mattlures website. perhaps a sharp, single, 4/0 gamakatsu EWG would have hooked those fish.

FROG MOD!!!
i dont think the single hook will have any issues as far as the bait rotating. it would not be much different than catching a fish on a soft plastic lure with a single hook. if anything, it will help keep fish on because it gives a little. its kinda like a shock absorber. instead of it being rigid and not moving, it will give to the fish. i think this would help because a rigid hook would pop out but a hook that has some give to it would just bend. because its positioned between the two legs, they kinda prevent it from laying totally horizontal. the most it seems to move is about a 45° angle. this angle puts the hook point right at the "corner" of the raised portion, which is where a double hook is anyway. but, this is just from handling the bait. i will let you all know how it preforms out on the water.

Skipping on a baitcaster
yeah my gear isnt a problem. i got good rods and reels and 50lb powerpro. so the faster you get it going the less likely it is to backlash on you? cuz i can skip the lure without problem, its just after i do so it backlashes.

berkley digital lip grip
Mine does. wow maybe something is wrong with yours cuz every single review i have seen said it doesnt swivel. is there something you have to push/pull to get it to swivel?

FROG MOD!!!
well, i lost my better snagproof frog (tournament series). i left it on the bank at the last pond i fished. all i had left was the crappy original snag proof frog with stiff legs, and a crappy, small, dull double hook. did a little modification this morning to turn it into what i think is gonna be a pretty good little frog. first thing i did was trashed the double hook and put in a stout, gammie 4/0 EWG. very sharp, very strong, and its still weedless on the frog (kinda have to skin hook it like a plastic worm). i also put 5 BB's in the frog for weight (since the lead ballast weight fell out) and rattle. next, i decided to do something about those legs. i was gonna cut them off and put some rabbit strips there, but i didnt have the right color rabbit. then i was gonna try olive green hackle, didnt have the right length. so i left the legs. but i took a wire and made a brace for the legs. i wrapped it around one ankle and then left a length between the legs and wrapped it around the other ankle so it separated the legs and held them separated. then i submerged the back half of the frog in boiling water for 30 seconds and dunked it in cool water for 30 seconds afterward. the result...two separated legs that actually kick when the lure is twitched! i think this frog will be a winner

Getting Started With Crankbaits
x a bazillion to the guys who said DT!!! i suggest you buy the whole DT lineup up to at least 10 feet (3,4,6,7,10) in the color that closest matches your local baitfish. that way you have a bait to catch fish at any depth!

Fixing a leak
i tried jbweld, but when the boat flexed in the water, the jbweld didnt flex, so it all just flaked right off.

Do you palm it?
i dont even know how to not palm a reel LOL! do you hold it by the handle and the trigger when you're fishing? that just seems rediculous! ;D i palm all the time, couldnt imagine doing it differently. i also lay my finger under the level wind so that the line lays ontop of my finger. IT REALLY DOES HELP DETECT SMALL BITES!
