What is your favorite part of catching a big fish?
what is your favorite part of catching a hawg? i know my favorite part is setting the hook. there is nothin else like reelin up the slack and swingin your rod back as hard as you can, and feelin a nice solid fish on the recieving end.

Long casts w/ plastics
USE BRAID!!! its more sensative so you will feel smaller taps, and its got no stretch, so setting the hook from 40 feet away is no problem. also, like others have said, watch your line. but most likely, you will feel the fish as well as see your line move. i know i catch a lot of fish at the end if a long cast and i feel them just as if they were 10 feet away.

Cavitron Trailer
went fishing with the cavitron tonight and didnt catch any. i had one fish on but it was very weird. it must have struck as soon as my bait hit the water because when i went to start my retrieve after it hit the water, i couldnt get the bait to come to the top, then i felt a fish start pumping my rod! i didnt even know he had hit it, so i didnt have a chance to set the hook, and then the fish came off.

Great Evening with Dad
i finally dragged my dad out to this pond i have been wanting to fish for over a week. i have been here several times before but only caught two dinks here. that changed today. it started off VERY slow. my dad got two hits right off the bat on an *** beaver but couldnt hook up. i was alternating fishing a 12" culprit and a cavitron. about 45 min to an hour later, i got one on my buzzbait but it quickly got off. then it was about 45 min to an hour of nothing. then my dad hooked up with a nice one and landed this fish on an *** 5" ***: it was hooked deep and was bleeding. i got the hook out cleanly (thru the gill method) but i wanted to get it back in the water fast so we didnt take measurements. i'd guess it was pushing 2lbs. then it got slow again. no bites for about 30 min. i decided to switch over to the ***. i was dragging it through some gnarly stuff; a combination of hydrilla, snot grass, and lily pads: i casted over to deep water, crawled it onto the slop, and was just twitchin it along. i let it fall into a hole and sit, then i felt a pretty slight tick tick tick. i slammed the hook home and stuck a nice pig. it was steady takin out drag. it got pretty freakin tangled up in all the slop, but it was no match for my 50lb braid. then it got caught up in some of the lily pads, and i started getting real scared of losing it. i just eased up on the pressure and he swam out of the pads. i dragged this 21 inch, 4lb 6oz beast on shore: not too long after that i caught a super dink using the same method: only reason i took a pic was to enter it in the *** contest. i proceeded to catch 2 more slightly bigger dinks before the night was done. all in all it was a good time. very slow at first but it got awesome at the end. sorry for dragging this post out ;D

What coulda been my new PB (PIC)
i say its about 3.5-4lbs. i dont accuse you of lying, or trying to exaggerate, im just saying my opinion, everythings cool. if you say your knuckles are 4.5" across, judging by that, the fish is about 19, maybe 20 inches long, and according to the weight calculator on Bass Resource (which almost everyone agrees weights fish too high), that fish would weigh 3.9lbs (19 inches) or 4.5lbs (20 inches). there is really no way to tell from a photograph, especially when accurate lenght and girth measurements are not given. but i can tell that is no 5lber. if you do have the length and girth but didnt post them, try using this formula to find out the weight: (girth2 × length) ÷ 800 most people will tell you this is a pretty accurate formula. might i add, NICE FISH!!! its still bigger than most of what i catch, good job!

Pull her outta the grass
lol i do have good luck with it! i do it all the time with hyrilla and lily pads too.

Where did all the bass go?
fish a different spot or fish with different lures. keep changing till you find something that works and stick with it till it stops working then try something new.

Cordless Drill at Low Speeds
ok. thanks for the replies. the people on tackle underground (tackle making forum) said this wouldnt be good for the drill, and they reccomend getting some kind of motor made to be operated at slow speeds under load for a long time, like a rotisserie motor or microwave turntable motor. im gonna see if i can scrounge up a 6RPM rotisserie motor for really cheap.

Pull her outta the grass
3 ways: 1: nip it in the butt and solve the problem before it starts. DONT LET THE FISH GO IN THE GRASS! just horse it in above the grass. 2: use 30-50lb braid, it will not break and it will cut thru the grass pretty nice. 3: give the fish slack and hope it will swim its way out.

Broke tip???
how many inches of the rod would be lost if you just trimmed it to the next guide? same thing happened to one of my ultra light rods, and i just trimmed it to the first guide. i only lost about 3 or 4 inches, and the rod works fine. if its a rod you dont really care about, trim it, if not, buy a guide replacement kit from the walmart fishing section. it will be a little package of 3 tips and a red tube of rod glue. they are pretty cheap. here is one made by Fuji for only 6 bucks. not sure if the ones at walmart are Fuji though, but they look exactly like this: http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_16514?cm_mmc=froogle-_-100-4-12-_--1-_-38-374-092-00&hvarAID=froogle&mr:trackingCode=C4199CE4-953C-DD11-98CA-001422107090&mr:referralID=NA and if you do get the rod tip repair kit, i dont reccomend that you use the "hot melt glue". i have found it kinda difficult to use. i just put a dab of 5 min epoxy in the rod tip with a toothpick and a little bit on the rod itself and slid the tip on. did this on my fly rod when my mom sucked it up in the vacuum and it works like new.

rod power?
wow i would have never thought of this being a crankbait rod. thanks guys!
-
rod power?
thanks flechero, thats the rod i have. except mine must be older or something because it doesnt have blue threads, it has greyish-red threads. why doesnt it list the power or action on the rod? are there any other companies that do this? and why do you think its a typo?

FD'S SUMMER SLAM CONTEST with a twist.
ok. so, theoretically, if i were to catch a 30lb bass on a texas rig, i wouldnt have to catch a fish on a frog or crankbait but i could still win the contest. lol...i wish : ;D

Cordless Drill at Low Speeds
yes that is exactly what i wanna use this for. so you guys arent joking with me, it really wont hurt the drill?
