  2. thats awesome! glad you had a great day! take some pictures next time .
  3. that lake looks absolutley awesome! glad you had a fun outing. ps. you wanna hook me up with one of those random piled up jonboats?
  4. i've really been paying attention to my line lately and really getting in touch with my lure and whats going on down there. i use braided line so its pretty visible on the surface of the water. i have found there are VERY distinct feelings for each thing your bait encounters underwater. it is difficult to explain, but i will try to type what i feel. i experience all of this when im fishing weigtless, t-rigged plastics. when im pulling it through weeds, it feels kinda crunchy. cant really explain it better than that, crunch. imagin pulling your figners through very tangly hair. kinda like that. i can always tell when my lure is about to hit a piece of rock or wood because i can feel my line scraping over it. braid is very textured so i can feel my line against hard objects. i will feel the vibration from the line and then it will just stop and i know my bait has hit the piece of cover. then i just ease the bait over it and continue. gravel feels like a bunch of constant teeny taps, while mud feels like constant stickyness, like something is dragging your lure. the most important thing i have found out when im fishing plastics is that if i am moving my rod and i feel something that feels like a hit, 90% of the time its not a hit. its just me pulling the bait into/through something. however, if im not moving the rod or reel and i feel a tap or see my line move at all, it is a fish of some sort, and i'll let em have the bait for a few seconds, reel in the slack, and set the hook hard. hope that helps you distinguish some stuff. PS. dont worry about what the other guys say, just do what feels right to you. good fishin!
  5. yeah im definitley getting a college degree. i never could understand why some people dont even bother finishing highschool. it is so important! life will suck without a good education. :
  6. Sam those are great tips! i will definitley try those. dead sticking sounds interesting. lol! i have done it with trick sticks before and it is usually pretty productive.
  7. what i used to do is spool on mono and leave enough room for twice the distance of your best cast. then spool the rest with braid.

THROW EM EVERYWHERE! throw DT3's and 4's along the flats, DT6's, 7's, and 10's along the drop off, and DT16's at the bottom of the drop off. use the cranks like a search tool and locate the fish, and then fish at the depth the fish are biting.
  9. i think i'll fish the whole worm rigged normal on a 4/0 and if i find im missing alot of strikes i'll cut some off.
  10. i was rummaging thru my plastics collection today and found a pack of these: http://www.touchdownlures.com/1012moomauworm.html they look very unique. that tail must put out a hella action. im gonna try to fish em tomorrow and let you know how i do. i think they will do pretty well.
  11. That is probably what I'm leaning toward, if I go with the 100 I'll get the 6'6" MM and if I go with the 200 D I'll go ahead and get the 7' MF. Thanks. Also, is Ugly Stik a good brand? yeah the 200 fits perfectly on a 7 footer, and the 100 fits perfectly on a 6 and a half footer. but dont base your rod specifications on what i use. for example, i got a 7' MF (medium power, fast action) because i wanted a rod that would excel in fishing weightless texas rigged plastics. i got a 6'6" MM (medium power, medium action) because i wanted a rod with a lot more flex so that i could fish crankbaits more efficiently. choose your rod specs. based on the types of fishing YOU will be doing. as for the ugly stik question...the short answer is no. they are not sensative, they are very heavy, and they are not very stiff (which is not always a bad thing) making hooksets difficult. if you are looking for a rod in the price range of an ugly stik, i reccomend a berkley lightning rod or shimano clarus. these are the best rods in that price range IMO.
  12. my best advice for mono is to can it and switch to braid!
  13. thanks so much! you guys are a great help. how do you determine all that stuff?
  14. well the biggest hooks i have are 4/0, and i wont be able to get any bigger size hooks between now and tomorrow. are there any tips to help me land fish on a 10" worm using a 4/0 hook?
  15. k thanks for the advice. im pretty excited about using these 10inchers. i know very well that this pond holds a good population of 5lb + bass, which is very big for my area (at least for me it is...) and im hoping by upsizing my baits i will catch a few of these pigs. im gonna check out the fishing article library and see if they have any tips on fishing supersized worms.
  16. ok thanks for the tips. what usually determines what you switch to?
  17. REALLY!?!? you dont wait at all? i would have figured you'd have to wait a little bit longer than other plastics in order to let the fish have the whole thing in their mouth. do you miss many fish on 10 inch worms? thanks for the information.
  18. i have a citica 200 D on a st. croix avid 7' MF, and a citica 100 DSV on a st croix avid 6'6" MM. absolutley love both combos.
  19. i checked right hand exclusivley. the reason for this is because all of my reels are labeled right handed. the only difference is that on a right handed spinning reel, the handle is on the left whereas a right handed casting reel has the handle on the right. they are both technically right handed.
  20. yeah i have one: 50lb power pro.
  21. hey, i was just wondering, how long does it take for you guys to decide to change baits when something else is not working. i think i have a problem because i tend to stick to one bait for a very long time, even if it is not working. and when i do decide to change, i usually dont really know what would be the best thing to change to.
  22. hey guys, i plan on fishing some 10 inch culprits tomorrow, but i have a few questions about 10" worms. do you all get many short strikes while fishing these? what is a good way to eliminate short strikes? how long should you wait after you feel a strike to set the hook? what size hook do you usually use? i plan on using a 4/0.
  23. thanks for the link catt! those also look very nice! hey, does anybody know... when they give a length of a bait, say 6", does that mean the bait is six inches long when the tail is stretched out, or when its in the curled position (like shown in photos)?
  24. sounds fun! i caught a 38" carp on a chunk of bread balled up on the hook. carp usually dont take artificials. actually, they like to eat a lot of people foods. try bread, dough, corn, lunch meats, and pretty much anything else.
