  1. i have a Berkley 50lb Digi Scale that i got from walmart for something like 20 bucks, and it is either dead one, or accurate within one or ounces (tested on groceries). this is much better than my rapala digital scale which usually weighed 4oz shy every time.
  2. drove down to St. Marys lake today, the biggest body of freshwater around here (besides the potomac river). we had a pretty good day. first we went into this creek, my dad was throwning a 5" *** (shimmer sahd) and hooked up with a small pickerel, about a foot long but it got off right at the boat (thankfully! ;D). a few minutes later he hooked up with a bass: i was throwing a *, but i wasnt getting hit so i changed over to what my dad was using. a few minuts after that, i hooked this HUGE fish that put up a super fight...for about 2 seconds...then it got off. i was pretty upset. but then 5 minutes later, i hooked the same fish, and landed it. it felt like about a 6 or 7 lb bass, but it was an 18 inch pickerel :-/. but it was my PB pickerel and it put up the best fight i have had since my 7lb PB bass. we stayed in that creek a little longer and my dad ended up with 2 bass there, and i got 3 bass (plus the pickerel). here is one of the bass my dad caught: and the biggest bass of the day: . then the fishing got really slow. almost an hour and a half with no bites. we left that creek and went to a different one and were fishing a cove in there when i got a 12" pickerel. so all in all it was a good day, i caught 3 bass 2 pickerel, my dad caught 2 bass hooked one pickerel.
  3. i've heard mixed reviews. i've heard they were pretty darn good, but i've heard others say they fall apart. i went to BPS specifically to buy one, but they didnt even have them if i were you, i'd wait till september and get a spro bbz shad. at least thats what im doin.
  4. buckifan08 PM'd me so it looks like he's getting it next. STICKY?
  5. i took the lure to the farm pond today. i started out casting parallel to the dock, as close as i could get to it, and on my third cast of the day, pulled in this 18" bass. i caught it on the UL setup shown, and with a loose drag. it was lots of fun! im going fishing tomororw, and i will bring the lure, and i will send it to the next person on monday. so who wants it next? PM me w/ address. CAN SOMEBODY PLEASE MAKE THIS A STICKY THREAD?
  6. LOL! this is just rediculous! ;D
  7. when you rig a worm crooked, it will affect the performance, but not always in a bad way. the good: when the worm is crooked, when you move it, it will often flutter around. sometimes this action can trigger strikes. the bad: because its fluttering and looping around, it can twist your line up pretty good. this is more of a problem if you are using spinning gear, because twisted lines make for really bad birds nests on the cast.
  8. micro i hate you. you have now made me spend 20 bucks on a lure.... :-/
  9. definitley get a stiffer rod. like others said, lightning rod is a great choice.
  10. you think thats bad, i was spawn fishin for spawning shellcrackers, and i caught a big ole male, and when i grabbed him, he squirted me...and it wasnt pee......
  11. anything from the rapala DT line in a shad-like color.
  12. http://www.dzinelures.com/critters.htm i've used those snakes. the body is pretty thick, about 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch, but only half of the body is thick, the rest is just a ribbon tail. i know they are snakes, ie. topwater, but you can request them in the non-floating versions.
  13. hmmm what is this like the 4th time its been on the forums?
  14. beagles are the best dogs in the world
  15. yeah this was a REALLY cool idea! it is neat to see how far this lure travels and when you finally get it, its great to catch fish on it and then pass it along for others to catch with. we should make an updated list as to where it has been. THIS SHOULD ALSO BE A STICKY THREAD!
  16. i goty to fish with the lure today and i caught this: i guess it really is a dink magnet! but there is a funny story about the fish... the park was packed today, and i was fishing right by some other guy who was taking his kids bluegill fishing. i accidentally crossed his line,. as i was reeling it in, the bass hit my lure, and then as i got it closer, a bluegill took his lure! so we each had a fish on the end of our tangled lines. it was pretty funny, we both laughed. i think im gonna keep this lure for one more trip if you guys dont mind, so i can try to contribute more than just that one tiny fish. [move]CAN THIS PLEASE BE A STICKY THREAD![/move]
  17. thanks for thte tips sam. we launched out of Marshall Hall in Maryland, and fished in the piscataway creek. i did bring a camera, but i only took one picture, and i was too lazy to upload...but if you insist, here is the biggest one i caught yesterday:
  18. cool. it seems like the carrots are lighter and more sensative? well, i dont see myself replacing my avids w/ carrots any time soon, but i might try a carrot if i get some cash. lbh, carrots are 150 and avids are 170
  19. wow that sounds like a bunch of fun! let us know when this episode makes it online!
  20. flip the mutant weightless in the thick shoreline stuff.
  21. i got a chance to go out on a bass boat today on the potomac river. it was my first time in a bass boat and i must say it is luxury compared to my leaky tipsy jonboat! ;D and it was wicked cool to blast across the river at 75mph . so now that the boat story is out of the way, the fishin was pretty good! we were out for about 5 hours and i caught 6 bass, my dad got 3, and our host caught 2. my dad and i got to the ramp earlier than the other guys, so i was tossing a spinnerbait off the pier and i caught a bass before the day even started! once we got out in the boat, we blasted across the river to a nice cove, and on my second or third cast i hooked up with a nice 3-4 pounder on the same black spinnerbait. i fought this baby all the way to the boat and just as i bent down to lip it, hook slipped out. i wasnt too upset, it was fun to fight it all the way to the boat. about 20 min later, nothing was happening so i switched to a red rattlin rapala, and on my first cast with that, i casted it about 75 feet +/-, and literally half a second after it hit the water i had a fish on it!!! i fought this 3+ lber all the way to the boat and landed it. it was such a great fight!!! i can honestly say that these river fish fight 10 times harder and longer than the pond fish that im used to catching. after that we went into a different cove and i started smackin em on a smoke red pepper ***. my dad switched over to what i was using and he started catching em too. our host caught one on a pumpkin colored lizard here. after that cove we went across the river and started flipping around docks and grass clumps and we saw these HUGE carp mating and beating the crap out of each other. our host caught one on an excalibur lipless and then we called it a day. sorry no pics, but it was a really great day! ima have to talk my dad into buying a bass boat now ;D.
  22. of course they stack up! any two rods are comparable, no matter what they are. all of the factors dont have to be t he same in order to compare a rod.
  23. yeah i have 2 avids and i love them also! i was just wondering how the carrot stix stack up to the avid...in case i decide i need a new rod .
  24. hah whats even better is when you think you have everything under control and you whack a bush right after you release the spool on the cast..... :-[
