  1. yes, always.
  2. I couldn't agree more. Lens selection and resale value are key. Cameras change all the time (almost yearly) while good lenses last for years (20+). Good glass is a must!

That is the perfect temp range for traps in my opinion. What type of retrieve have you been using? Were you doing anything different when you caught your only fish? I have a lot of luck doing a yo-yo retrieve. Most of my hits come after I make contact with some sort of cover. There are days when only burning it will work and others where more of a slow roll is key. good luck
  4. "I have a "well-fed" physique" haha. that is great.
  5. Veteran move Most guys will simply shoot these fast, long primes wide open, with no regard for depth of field. Your pictures clearly show intelligent aperture settings. The sharpness of the images is nice and tight, too. Its the difference between good gear taking the shot, and a good photographer making a beautiful picture. Very nice stuff! I agree. For BIF I shoot f/8 -/11. Francho, you have a 400 too correct? It's probably my favorite lens although at times I wish it was a little faster and perhaps a little longer.
  6. Nice Chris. Which 400 did you get? BIF are always fun to shoot. Probably my favorite thing to shoot.
  7. Thanks guys! I can't wait until all the grass really starts to come in...
  8. well done matt.
  9. bass pro's, bass edge, and hook n look.
  10. In my opinion fishing is at least 75% confidence. It sounds as though yours is low. Based on your location this time of year can be a tough time in terms of water temp, rain and fronts passing through. I would stick with what you know and what has worked in the past to get your confidence back...good luck. grind through it!
  11. well done professor. sorry about the fish.
  12. congrats shimmy!!! where were you if you don't mind sharing...?
  13. Pohick is on fire right now. I posted a report in the "my outings" section.
  14. I would add Luhr Jensens to your list...
  15. well done man. congrats! I've always heard of people using grubs for trailers. have you tried both?
  16. Thanks for the kind words guys. I have to get my outboard fixed SOON so I can truly venture out on the river!
  17. What a day!!! I fished the Potomac with my girl today. On the water from 12-3pm (not the best starting time, she likes her sleep). Started off fishing chunk rock in 55* water. Did very well there with traps and jigs. Pulled around 12 in the first hour. I worked a few lay downs on gravel points. Most fish there were holding tight to wood. I also took a few on outside edges of old grass. I never really ventured out of a 500-700 yard span. I caught 24 total in about 3 hours. My best 5 probably went a little over 20 lbs!!! Everything was on jigs and traps. here is my big girl!
  18. the original is meant to be fished like a jig.
  19. I picked up a pack a few weeks back but have not had a chance to throw them . The reviews I have read are mixed at best. Most prefer the smaller size (3.5 "). I watched a BPS show where Horton was fishing them over grass. It looked great.
  20. can you imagine if the co angler hooked ike??? haha
  21. Yes, braid definitely helps. For me the key is to actually make contact with the grass. Ripping it free is what they can not stand. Good luck.
  22. very well said!!!
  23. yes! check out north star state (member here)
  24. yep, for trebles in open water. Matt recommends fishing the soft gill like a jig...so no treble for me!
  25. I work at a high school and in my opinion very few of them fish. Students always see my lake maps on my desk (yes, I have an addiction) and ask about it. I tell them its for fishing and they instantly loose interest. I always follow up with do you fish? The answer is almost always, NO.
