punching mats/grass with a jig
I have much better luck ditching the jig and just throwin a t-rigged plastic(chigger craw..cough..cough). I use at least a 3/4 oz weight and up to 1 1/2 oz. As far as getting it through the top layer, do whatever you gotta do. I've had to toss my bait up 10-15 ft before to get through the mat. If the mat is thick enough that you have to punch through, it's unlikely that you will spook many fish.

Need some expert advice on how to fish this situation.
In ultra clear shallow water I would be tossing everything on the lowest lb rating 100% flouro I could get away with. Small white inline spinners & roadrunners will catch all species. For topwater I would go with clear or natural colored torpedoes & zara puppies. 4" watermelon type senko looks good too. Clear water can be tough & I compensate by downsizing.

Chloraseptic Allergen Block
This stuff works GREAT!! Spent the better part of the day Sunday & today working in the yard, and no sneezing at all. I don't have everyday allergies but yard work is usually the kiss of death for me. It's expensive, but well worth it IMO.

I'm no help as far as fishing Longmire, but I've heard some good things about it. Supposed to have a good population of 8+ lbr's. Would love to hear a report after you've been. Good luck.

Fluke fishing
Pinch a split shot about a 12-18" from the knot. Will help sink rate and gives the fluke extremely erratic action

Flipping Stick
I'm always fishing in the trash. Got a dedicated 7'6" flippin stick and a 7'3" frog/punching/flipping rod. I say if you can get by with one rod to serve both purposes then why not. Leaves more $$ to buy more crap.

Conroe, TX
Lake Conroe doesn't get near enough credit. Done just as good or better there as Rayburn.

Better Stock Up On Beer & Pop Tarts!
As an insurance adjuster, I need hurricanes to hit with some regularity and ferocity. As a man, it breaks my heart to see the damage caused by water & wind. Seen some stuff that I wish I could unsee.

Another which one is the best...
My fave is easily Subway. Sweet onion chicken teryaki & jalapeno chips. Rick: If Hardees & Carl's Jr aren't the same thing, I can't tell. I've had both recently and everything looks and tastes exactly the same. Excellent fried zucchini.

best crankbait for shallow pond water
Manns baby 1- is my all time favorite crank regardless of depth. Nice, tight wobble & it doesn't hang up too bad in the trees. I've used the lazer eye & it has nice action, but it seems like it's just too loud.
