Alcohol Recommendation?

Featured Replies

Alright fellas. Christmas is approaching fast and rather than wait until December, I like to get presents bought a little early to avoid the crazy holiday freaks. I also start buying early so I dont have to drop hundreds at a time. 50 here or 100 there over 3 months makes my wallet happier.

My stepdad loves a glass of bourbon or tequila on the weekends and he usually drinks JD or 1800. I want to get a quality beverage and that is where yall come in. Im looking to spend about 100$ on a bottle of some good stuff. What do you guys recommend?

Four roses single barrel Kentucky straight bourbon is great and not too expensive.

What RW said. Get the best in teh line that you can afford. It doesn't get any better than that.

Since you mentioned 1800, try PMing RedlineRobert.

You won't find a better source of tequila information anywhere.

4 roses single barrel runs about $36, pappy $20 last year was $100, but slated to go up this year. Might have to settle for the 15 yr if you want to stay under $100. Another suggestion would be George T Stagg, or Sazarac Rye, when they come out as well. If you wanted to go the teqila route, for $100 it is hard to beat the Milagro Single Barrel select. The anejo is around $100 and is REALLY good!

Did somebody say tequila?

For the $100 range, there are 2 I like and one I love.

Don Julio 1942 is really good. will run you about $120.

Don Fulano Imperial is awesome. Cost about the same.

My favorite in this price range is Jose Cuervo Reserva de la Familia. It's absolutely amazing. Don't confuse it with the Cuervo 'gold' or 'black' which is garbage. The RDLF is 100% agave, aged 3 years.

Also, don't drink it in a shooter. Use a snifter or if you want to go all the way buy a Riedel Tequila Overture flute. Very similar to a champaigne flute which is a great substitute. And for Gods sake, don't chill it, add ice, use salt or lime, or put any ice cubes in it. Room temperature is best...

1942 around here is $170!! RDLF is $110 for anejo and the Platino(which I might add is one of my favorite ) is $60.

Second vote for de la familia! I've worked my way thru 4 bottles now and I need another!

I love my bourbon and whiskey and while I drink more bourbon then i should for something special I go straight to a single malt Scotch. My preference is The Dalmore, the 12 year runs about 50 a bottle,15 year around 70-80 if you can find it and the 18 should be right at upper end of what you want to spend but tough to find..................oh and they have a 21 year that is the smoothest scotch I have yet to taste but I highly doubt it can be found stateside and trust me I have looked.

By chance is he a cigar smoker too?

mmm, tequila. my most expensive purchase was patron silver or cabo wabo. you guys make me feel like a cheapo, lol.

its usually 4 of us when we drink and it goes in margaritas except for a few shots. i would love to try some of those more expensive bottles.

i dont mean to thread jack, but does anyone have a favorite $50 bottle?

For $50 Siete Lleguas anejo is ridiculous. Better than some pricier bottles for sure.
