  • Hey Rooster, Before you buy a gun, join a club or range. Shoot as many as you can as much as you can. A defensive weapon must go bang every single time you squeeze the trigger. High capacity magaz

  • Whatever gun you can shoot the best with, and handle well. I'd rather hit a vital with a 22 then miss with at 50 cal.

  • I also recommend you try a few different handguns before making a decision. I ended up with the Ruger SR9c after trying a variety of others. It was the best fit for me, and comes at a very reasonable

Just got a new holster for my Shield

How do you like that holster so far?

Wore it for a few hours today and it's comfortable and it's not even broken in yet. Very adjustable and lifetime warranty too. My only complaint is that the edges are still kind of sharp on the leather. I'm going to give it a couple weeks to break in and if they're still bothering me I'll hit them with some sandpaper. It's great with an under shirt, but here in FL it's too hot and I'd rather not have to wear one.

Edit - Quick shipping too, I ordered on the 1st and it got here today.

Thanks. I ordered one last night after looking at some reviews on other forums.

Very fast shipping, I ordered it late Friday night and got it today. It is comfortable and seems to be very well made.

I carry a Glock 26 Gen 4 in a Comp-Tac MTAC holster.  When I need something smaller I have a Kahr CM9, in either an IWB kydex holster or a pocket holster.

I had an LCP and sold it a while back. Great carry gun just needed some cash. I rarely carry now but keep a Glock 23 when I'm travelling.

Bought a xds .45 last week after searching for one for months. Went into a local bps for some baby brush hogs and stumbled upon it by accident, LOL. Opened up a bps credit card that saved me 10% on any purchase up to $1500.

Rented lots of guns at the range prior to thos purchase with ccw on my mind, particularly of the 9 mm variety, but the xds in .45 cal to my suprise seemed to fit me the best. I plan to carry with hornady critical defense as this was the round that never failed me and allowed me to get nack om target quicker on all of my range visits. Everyone steered me towards the 230 grain JHP round but I figure the 185 grain Hornady round should be should be plenty sufficient in a self defense situation considering I shoot it the best and it hasn't failed me with the xds after 100+ rounds.

Any other xds owners here? Now I need to take a ccw course and be on my way.

I was carrying a Taurus PT140 in a Crossbreed holster. Then I started having feeding issues. I traded the Taurus and holster in on a Gen 4 Glock 20. I love the gun, just a tad heavy for carrying compared to my .40. The glock holds 15+1, I just put 8 in it to keep it at a comfortable weight. In Illinois we cant carry, so I don't carry it often. But when I head to Chicago, I definitely have it on me. Like I said, its illegal, but im not going to the murder capital of the U.S.A without protection. On a side note, I live in a small town 2 hours south of Chicago. Two men robbed our Verizon store at gunpoint last week. They put a gun to the workers head and another 17 yr old customer. You just never know when you are in a life or death situation. During the pursuit, we lost a K-9 dog in an automobile accident en route to the scene.

As much as it stinks to be unarmed, I would never carry illegally... but that's just me.  Sounds like a good way to end up in jail.

I originally got an SA XDM with the 3.8 inch barrel in 9mm for CC, but I thought it was too big and stopped carrying it.

Today I picked up the Ruger LCP and put 50 through it out if the box. I'm not a big guy (5'9"@ ~160) and I felt completely in control of the gun emptying all 7 shots in a few seconds.

It is a small gun for sure but I'm confident that I can carry it daily and control where the shots go. I couldn't say that about the XDM unfortunately.

That LCP is an ok gun.  The two I have shot both had extremely long trigger pulls and at 6'2" and 240 lbs there just isn't much handle there to hold onto.  My father-in-law is your size and he loves that gun.

When you go to put 1rd in the pipe first in a pistol make sure you feed it from the magazine so you won't detune the extractor. This happens on the 1911's a lot. (Stove pipes)

I like the double action on the first shot on the cz 82, cz 83 & cz 85. You can put one in the pipe without cocking it and locking it. You just pull the trigger on the first shot. Then it's semi auto after that.

  1.  Before we had legal concealed carry i still carried..not going to be a victim.Yes i knew what would happen if the PD caught me,as a great man once told me its better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6.

i am a good citizen never had an issue with the law, ever. block captain, ex Army 11Bravo. BUT my job is to protect my family so i carried.

i carry legal now . I hope i  shake  off this mortal coil and never have to use .my guns, other than poke holes in paper.

Just got myself a xds 9mm. Ive been carring for about two years now and carried a glock 27 for the majority of those two years. I rotate between my ruger lcp and my xds. I gotta say though i love the xds. I agree with many use whatever is comfertable. No use getting something you wont carry. Any gun is better than no gun!

Eddie

The Ruger sr 40 or 9 c is a perfect conceal carry gun

I carry the .380 lcp with a crimson trace, in my back pocket its like having a wallet. Oh you want my wallet, sure

I plan to carry my 9mm shield as soon as I can. Going to apply for my permit next week!

The sr9c is on my short list of next purchases but the m&p 9c keeps calling me.

I have been carrying legally in Fl since 98 and my carry guns have evolved into what I think is the best carry combo yet. I started out with a Colt Compact 45 then a Glock 30 and then a Glock 21. I work at night and I always use an outside the wasteband holster so I need a gun/holster combo that my work shirts conceal easily and I need comfort. After years of carrying guns that were either to big or heavy and trying various plastic leather and nylon holsters, I think the Glock 19 and Safariland 5197 combo is the best there is. 15+1 and very concealable and very comfortable!

I concealed carried a Ruger Super RedHawk in .44mag for a couple years. Only ever pulled it once. That was when a small group of people approached me while I was stopped at a red light. Them boys scattered like roaches. I ain't never heard such commotion before.

Now its usually a Glock of some kind, that I carry. I have been toying with the idea of getting another S&W 500 or a .454 Casull. For those days when I'm too lazy to conceal carry. Hell I'm pretty sure I could conceal carry them too. However, that just takes the fun out of it. Its nice when you can give people a reason NOT to try their luck with you. Why let them guess if I'm packing heat. I'd rather them see it and know the size of the cannon they are gonna be staring down.
