I've looked at the Uni Knot in a couple videos and it seems like it's kind of a pain in the arse.  Maybe "knot" but does anyone know of a simpler, less time consuming knot to tie my backing to my main line?

Improved Albright knot or Alberto knot.

Most them are a pain in nthe butt, youve gotta tie them a thousand times before it comes like second nature.

Blood knot is easiest. If u have a smart phone down load knot wars, shows how to tie a bunch of them. Its free. Actually the Wolff knot or European knot is easier but very weak

Uni to uni knot is easiest IMO

Uni to uni is easy and will hold, however the alberto is as strong and its profile is smaller.

Probably tied somewhere in the neighborhood of 20 Alberto knots while spooling up some reels for the season. Once you get the hang of the knot you can get them done in under 30 seconds.

Alberto knot is good....it's very basic when you look at the overall knot. It's got a lot of wrapping the line but it's not using multiple loops, multiple tag ends..or running line through one part of a double loop, etc...the alberto only uses one loop and then wrap back and forth and back through the loop. Pretty simple really but takes a little more time than some because of the wrapping in the knot.

X2 to me, i can do an alberto knot quicker than even thinking about a blood or uni to uni.

Its sooooo simple, make a loop with your leader, bring the braid through, wrap er up, come back thrrough the loop, tighten, voila!

Uni-knot or Alberto Knot or whatever, it's all a matter to preference and what you have confidence in.

 

Virtually any new knot presents challenges - you need one thing and one thing only -  Practice.

 

Speed, confidence and routine will all come with lots a practice.

I like the Alberto too, the " Spanish Fly" said it's as strong as a bimini twist, a good enough recommendation for me. Before I attempted this knot in 20 mph winds on a rocking boat, I got it down pat in my garage before leaving. I've also shortened it up, I make 10 wraps up and none down before I put it back thru the loop, so far no failures with any lines, leaders and all sizes of fish.

My father taught me to join 2 lines using a Blood Knot.  Later I learned the Uni Knot and used it for everything.  Very late in life I learned the Alberto.  For me the Blood Knot is 'knot' the easiest to tie.  The Uni Knot is because I have used it the most by far.  However, since learning the Alberto Knot, I use it for all line-to-line connections.  Compact and very strong.
