Oopsy Ike!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Featured Replies

Check out the live blog on bassmaster website.  IKE ran his boat into the woods.  The pictures are awesome!!!!!!

He and his marshal are OK!!

Dude that boat wrap couldnt be any more perfect... Lets go places... places other than the water. He shouldve powerpole walked it out of the woods like a spider.

Glad they are both OK. But I don't think the bass are "That" shallow.

Dang!

Saw this on facebook a few minutes ago. Supposedly he hit something underwater and veered off course onto the bank. Hopefully there isn't too much damage.

It was a gator. Treeesssssssssshaka!

Holy cow. I'm sure he has a few back up boats.

Hey sometimes I check for bass in the trees as well, only with my lures though.

Lucky he did not kill himself and his marshall.

Guys go way too fast on rivers. I cringe many times watching other bass boaters haul fanny around bends and on straight aways on rivers and lakes.

The Sabine is an unforgiving river. With a bass boat that can clear 70MPH you know one day one of our pros is going to eat the woods, and Ike proved that it is totally possible for this to happen.

Glad both guys are OK. Maybe BASS will put a MPH limit on future tournaments. Then again........

This was an accident plain and simple. we allow nascar yet they drive close to 200 mph and can die instantly. It is a risk of the sport .

as with racing cars, most of us are not capable of driving them.  same goes with driving a bass boat at high speeds.  ike was lucky this time.  just think, he could have turned right into a boat beside him, or another oncoming boat.  my thoughts are tournaments need to rethink some things relating to safety.  running at high speeds in skinny water that has many unseeable obstacles is just asking for trouble.  bass had a great idea in the beginning with a 150hp limit.  it made competing somewhat more affordable for everyone.  it somewhat kept speeds at a safer limit.  if ike had been going slower, he might not have ended up in the woods.  a small mistake in driving a bass boat at high speeds usually does not have good results.  as i stated earlier, time behind the wheel does not make us race car drivers.  ike just might come under that statement also.  he may spend many hours in a boat, but that does not necessarily make him a great boat driver at high speeds.

Rivers are especially scary at high speed, you never know what is sticking up. If theyre gonna run 70 in the river they might wanna rethink letting people change boats in favor of jets.

This kind of thing is one reason I have little to no interest in tournaments. Besides a seemingly total disregard for true safety in boating, there seems to be a big difference in what I see as fairness and sportsmanship compared to what a lot of them do when competing. They swap baits and share secrets off the water, and are great guys to meet and talk with at seminars, but I've read too many stories where squabbles came up over territory on the water and how it was handled later, or even things as small as just how they handle the fish they're catching, way too roughly in my opinion. I guess this is bound to happen at times but it's just a turn off for me on tournament fishing.

Laughing my Bass off @ that one!

This should make for a good commercial for the boat and motor manufacturer's.  They pulled the boat off the bank and Ike motored away, that says something for both companies.    :jaw-drop:

He's going to want to hope people's memory's are short when he goes to sell that boat at the end of the season.

Thats nuts, glad everyone is ok. Could have been bad, lucky this time. Hopefully it makes him a bit more cautious

It's not an accident, he was operating his boat at too fast a speed for the conditions, but yet I agree with you that it is risky, it's not necessary to take a risk like that, but Ike rolled the dice and he's lucky he walked away unhurt.

Hes already been thrown out of the boat before

Accidents often happen when people operate/act in such a way to make them more likely, that doesn't mean it isn't an accident.  How many pros ran 70 all the way to their spots every day without trouble?

Hmmm.... interesting armchair analysis from folks who weren't there.  Curious as to how different these comments would be if the same thing had happened to KVD or Shaw Grigsby, and given the same exact same pictures and information.

There was an accident at an elite event a few years ago when a pro hit an underwater stump and did a 90-degree turn into the bank. His co-angler was rushed to the hospital with multiple injuries.

I don't recall seeing very many negative comments about the pro back then, for an accident that had a much worse outcome.

I agree, they aren't a lot different than a race car driver. They are in a "big bucks" tournament. The one goal is to put fish in the boat. If they can make the boat go faster and then have more time to fish it becomes a no brainier, hang on we are about to see how fast this thing will go!!!
