Zseen
We were thinking about going in Jan. That is my slow time at work. I have a lot of question haha
TrapperJ
Love El Salto, we usually stayed at Ron Speed's Camp, Lupe the camps manager will take great care of you! Been to Mexico many times over the last 15+ years, never have any problems, usually the people that are having problems their doing something they shouldn't have been in the first place if you know what i mean. Think about how many people die in big cities all over the US every week cause of gangs, violence etc. Its just he media playing up Mexico worse than what it really is. I have never felt that i was in danger or at risk while down there.
Zseen
Yea i am not worried about the danger, if they want me that bad they can swim their butt out to the boat and get me I checked out Ron's webpage. Nothing wrong with what i saw just looking for reviews and advice from others that have been down there...
TrapperJ
We went last Janurary, Biggest we caught was 6.5 a few other 6's and 5's, lots and i mean LOTS of 2-3 pounders. One morning cause there was 3 of us, so i was by myself that morning, from like 7:30-noon i boated 50 fish by myself on a sq. bill. in that 2-4 pound range. If you wanting BIG bass. Go to Baccrac. But it's harder/more expensive to get there. The Rooms are very comfortable, good AC, clean, nice atmosphere. I would bring my wife its nice enough. Food is excellent and always fresh! After a hard day of fishing its Nacho's and margaritas while you wait for dinner. Lupe is your singing alarm clock in the morning. lol He is a great people person he will make you feel like you have known him for years and will bend over backwards to make sure you are taken care of. They just havn't been catching the big ones out of El Salto like they did years ago, but the numbers are certainly there.

Topwaterspook
I have no experience with Ron Speed's operation. We fish from Angler's Inn. We've never had a "bad" trip. Though we are still looking for our first #10, ACTUALLY in the boat. Absolutely have never had any hint of safety issues. The service is better than on a cruise. The food and drink are great, limitless and inclusive. Jose, Sammy, Ramon, Jesus, Sergio, Betty.............the whole staff is incredible! I must admit that after chatting with them and seeing some of the "Scrounger's Club's" bass, we are considering a trip to Baccarac. Though, as stated earlier, there is a difference in cost. Wherever you decide to go, think about spending a couple more days than normal. The travel costs no more for a week than for 3 days. Take no line lighter than #20. If I ever figure out how to; I'll post some of our photos. LOL, that's the reason I have none on my (avatar...??)

Super User roadwarrior Posted April 5, 2013 Super User Share Posted April 5, 2013 Its just he media playing up Mexico worse than what it really is. 60,000 people is a big number...I don't think it's hype: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-latin-america-10681249
Super User 00 mod Posted April 5, 2013 Super User Share Posted April 5, 2013 Compared to how many in the same period in the US? No worries, no problems. Jeff
Super User A-Jay Posted April 5, 2013 Super User Share Posted April 5, 2013 60,000 people is a big number...I don't think it's hype: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-latin-america-10681249 Those numbers above paint a pretty bleak picture, but they do represent an estimate from 2006 to 2010 or 2011. I did a quick search, and just as a point of reference, I found some interesting stats. Between the years 2001 and 2005 (81,634) people where murdered on the streets of America. Between the years 2001 and 2006, (104,140) people where killed in drunk driving accidents. If you combine the total murders and drunk driving deaths just from the years 2001-2007 in the United States the death toll is (201,140) people. It's a tough world. Super User Raul Posted April 14, 2013 Super User Share Posted April 14, 2013 Dude from Mexico here, El Salto ? .............hmmmmm...................any particular reason why you want to go there ? I´m in Mexico and I have no desire to travel all those hours & miles to go and catch 6-8 pounders, I can do that in my local lake, if you want to go and catch BEEG FEESH and 10 lbrs are no what we call beeg feesh down here forget about El Salto, Bacurato (Baccarac ) on the west coast and El Azúcar ( Sugar ) are the places I would choose. Not that El Salto is a bad place but there´s a bunch of places like that in Mexico, Aguamilpa is just 5 hours drive from where I Iive and when it comes to quality fishing ( numbers + decent size ) it´s up par with El Salto.

Super User Dwight Hottle Posted April 17, 2013 Super User Share Posted April 17, 2013 I would drive hours upon hours to go and catch 6-8 pound fish. Just sayin' If your going to spend the money to go to Mexico in search of your bass trophy you might as well go to the best place to get the job done.
Super User roadwarrior Posted April 17, 2013 Super User Share Posted April 17, 2013 I would drive hours upon hours to go and catch 6-8 pound fish. Just sayin' I have to drive a little out of my way to pick up coffee and smokes, so it usually takes me 10 minutes or so to get to Grove Park here in Germantown. Not all the bass are 6-8 lbs, but Sunday I caught my biggest fish of the year on an Original NorthStar Swim Jig/ Rage Tail Shellcracker. I'm guessing +/- 10 lbs, but who knows? At any rate, we have some exceptional opportunities her in Metropolitan Memphis, and it's much better on both the Tennessee River and the Mighty Mississippi. Of special note for those attending the RoadTrip, Pickwick is on fire! I'm fishing upriver out of Florence, AL this Saturday, report to follow after the trip. Dude, I have been hear for YEARS (with a slight break in the middle ) and you are always estimating those pond fish and never taking pics. Take the money you were going to spend on some jerkbaits and buy a scale and a camera!
Super User roadwarrior Posted April 18, 2013 Super User Share Posted April 18, 2013 Gotta save the pics for special occasions: http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-videos/lake-guntersville-2012.html
Super User SPEEDBEAD. Posted April 18, 2013 Super User Share Posted April 18, 2013 That's a 7.5lb fish. Great fish, no doubt, but I have read about what you catch at those ponds and by your account those fish make that one look small. If you worry about people blowing up your spot, email the pics to me. I will personally alter the background so that all but you and the fish are unrecognizable. Since I'm not from the area (and I wouldn't spot-burn someone anyway) there is no fear that you will show up one day to me fishing your honey hole. Super User SPEEDBEAD. Posted April 29, 2013 Super User Share Posted April 29, 2013 LOL, a fisherman is still a fisherman. As RW very often points out, fish weights tend to get streeeeeeeeetched out a bit when not put on a scale. Everyone wants that fish to weigh just a bit more than it does. Not calling his integrity into question, simply a recommendation to remove all doubt and allow others to share in his experiences through seeing pics.
