Favorite Brand For An Alabama Rig?

Featured Replies

Hey guys what is your favorite brand for an alabama rig? thanks!

Ok cool thanks guys! One other question, what swim baits do you prefer to throw on it? I was thinking about getting some swimming senkos for swim jig trailers, would they work well for the a-rig also?

Havoc grass pigs work

I like the gambler EZ SWIMMER. Great action on it!

I am partial to the original Manns rig. I have several of the Yumbrellas that I found on sale for $3.00 and the large head they have seems to want to roll on its side. I rig mine with either zoom swimming flukes or strike king shadalicious swimbaits.

Yum flashmob is my go to but the manns slick rig is good also there are so many out there annd havoc grass pigs or subwoofers are good zoom swimming flukes andyum money minnows are my favorites

I use several.  Some have big spreads, some are tight, some are light, some have attractors like blades, some with 2, 3, and 5.  I find I I like to have a few ready, depending on depth, size of bait, and visibility conditions.

I have a Yum one right now.  I really like it.

I thought you told me you hated it? lol

LOL,  Na,  I dont like throwing them that much.  Wears on my shoulder real bad.  After that Striper trip my shoulder was done.  Its a sign of me getting old.

For me, it's the right wrist.  Gets numb after a while, then numb.  The next day it's pretty stiff.  It's impossible to play drums the day after throwing a heavy rig for 8 hours.

I found a grey hair today if it makes you feel any better.  My first.. (that I know of)

Throwing the A-rig has to be easier than a double cowgirl musky bait with magnum blades....if not, then I will never throw one. Forget that.

The Cowgirls are a little more aerodynamic.

#10 or #12 Magnum blades are like throwing garbage can lids out and trying to retrieve them. It's brutal to get them going but once you do it's not too bad....not until you're a few hours into it. lol.

Yeah, but the blades lay relatively flat.  Five 5" swimbaits twirling in different directions is tough in the wind.  Add in that you really want to stop the rig in mid air just before touch down to avoid fouling and orient the rig for retireve, and it gets tiring.  It's not for everyone, but when it's on it's silly fun.  Catching smallies on a heavy rated rod with 50# braid really reveals their strength.  Totally different fight than on light tackle from deep water.

I have one similar to the YUM Flash mob but it's a home brew from a guy in Rogers, AR that I bought on my trip to Beaver Lake this spring. It's been the most productive one I've fished so far. It has 5 arms and 4 small willow leaf blades.
