Sorry, this is a feisty conversation you're asking for. Highly opinionated, and not solved until you find one you like.

 

That said, I've used a number of brands: Power Pro, Berkely, Sufix, etc., and keep coming back to plain old Power Pro. I'm just comfortable with it.

 

I use 10lb test on all my spinning reels, and 20 lb on my bait casting reels. I always tie on a leader varying from 6-15 lb test depending on the conditions.

 

Braid is expensive, so I try to make it last and last, thus the leaders, and I always use backing on my reels.

X2 on the power pro. I started using power pro super slick in 10lb. test last year and love it.

For cranking and jerkbaits you are probably better off with mono. I prefer PowerPro for braid.

Pretty much the same setup I use on all of my spinning gear. Just out of curiosity, what length of leader do you use. I prefer a longer leader, usually about twice the length of the rod; but I know this is a preference thing. One issue I could overcome with a shorter leader is not having the joining knot reel onto the spool, but this has never really been an issue for me. The benefit of the longer leader is that I can change lures dozens of times before trashing the leader.

The slick really makes a huge difference on casting gear. Great line for frogging.

There is no 'best' superline of course, but my favorite superline is "Berkley Fireline Tracer Braid".

I've used PowerPro for a couple years, but to make a long story short, I switched to fireline braid

and it's the cat's meow.

For the price, suffix performance and Stren sonic braid are great.

You want the best higher end stuff? Daiwa samurai braid is the smoothest and easiest to cast. It's almost too smooth lol. People are raving about sunline fx2 and I would love to try some this year.

Power Pro...ten to sixty five. Holds up and casts well. Have used fireline also and it's not bad. But does seem to break down faster

X2   I also agree that braid isn't the best choice to use with treble hooks.  One reason being that it seems to me that it is easier to foul treble hooks with the ultra soft braid than it is with mono, hybrid or fluor lines.  Braid's lack of stretch can be overcome by a low drag setting and/or a softer tip.  I don't normally use a leader, but I think I would make it a habit were I to use braid for treble hooks.

 

I've currently got Fireline, 832, Performance, Tuf-Line Super Cast and Samurai spooled.  Used my brother-in-law's Power Pro filled reels until I bought and left rods of my own there.  Now I carry my own reels with me on visits.  Performance seems to be a good-for-the-money product, but I can't say anything bad about any of those lines except the coating on Fireline flaked off bad upon spooling it.
