whats your favorite trailer for jigs when the water temp drops.

Zoom Cross Craw or Lil' Critter craw or the old stand by Uncle Josh pork frog. 

R.I. Sweet or Smallie beavers. They add bulk with out adding much movement. And as a bonus, I texas rig, drop shot, and shaky head with them too...........a "do -all" bait for me, and saves me from having to carry around a bunch baits, like chunk style trailers, that I wouldn't use for much of anything other than a jig trailer.

Once the water temp reaches the low to mid 50's I have more confidence in a trailer without a lot of action such as a Zoom Super Chunk or Gene Larew Salt Craw (4" or 6").

 

I also still use Uncle Josh Pork Frogs a great deal.  

Cliff Pace won the 2013 classic using a twin tail grub trailer.  And the twin tail grub has a ton of movement with just the slightest action or water current.  Water temps at that event were between 39 and 45 degrees. 

I had very strong results fishing the Northstar Hippy series jigs with RI Sweet Beaver or SK Rodent trailer. For a smaller hair or finesse jig just down size to the smaller 3.5 inch versions.

Same preference as ww2farmer...

I have been really partial to the new Bass Pro Shops Elite Chunks that recently came out. They have some great colors and a Jr. size as well.

Rage Tail Baby Craw and DB Craw.

strike king kvd perfect plastic chunk, or zoom super chunk both have worked well for me.

Since approx September or so its been a DB Craw. 

Missile Baits D Bomb is the only trailer/plastic that has gotten me fish this winter. I'm quickly becoming a huge Missile Baits fan. 

Rangerboy, the lake in your avatar looks like Castiac, however favorite lake is Clear Lake.

Nothing will out fish a pork rind trailer in whatever water temperature in regards to big bass.

Castaic for example smaller size trailers are a good choice, Casitas larger size trailers....it's just the way it is!

Fish N Fools still has stock on SuperPork, the Tadpole is good for Castaic, the Sr Frog for Casitas.

Soft plastics in twin tails, 4" cinnamon blue Castaic, 5" dark watermelon/ purple Casitas.

There isn't a one size/ color that fits all conditions as most angler believe, each lake is different.

Pork is the beef to a bass!

Cold water I like chunks, specifically the Zoom Super Chunk Jr. or the Salty Pro Chunk. I use the Jr. in the super chunk because it helps get attention to the small finesse jigs I use them on but on a larger jig the Sr. has a bit too much action so I use the salty pro chunk because it is the same size as the Sr. but it has a smaller profile because that chunks has a larger area for the hook but smaller "legs or claws" compared to the Sr. which is the exact opposite with larger "claws" and a smaller hook area.

The water temp on my first trip last year was 42º. I had molded and painted a batch of Shake It jigs over the winter and along with a rubber skirt, I dressed the jig with a GYCB twin tail trailer. I thought that trailer might have too much action in the cold water but a 4.5 lb. LM disagreed with me.

 

Later the same day a 3+ lb. smallie was fooled by an Uncle Josh Spinning Strip on a white bucktail jig.

 

So, both an "active" plastic trailer and old school pork worked. What you want to keep in mind when fishing water from say, 40º to 50º is to retrieve slowly.

Either Uncle Josh pork chunk, or a Zoom big salty chunk.
