Hey guys so I am wanting to start throwing jerkbaits some. However there are so many different ones that I am at a bit of a loss for what to get. Also I do not want to order tons of them only to find I do not fish them a lot. So what is a good all around length you would recommend someone start off with? I assume it is just matching the hatch, and different times of the year you would use different sizes but I am a bit clueless where to start. Any pointers? Also I know there are shad and baitfish in the lake I fish of course, but I have no idea what their size is so simply matching up with them is not going to be an option. Basically I just want to know what a general good all around size is. thanks!

See, I like the 112 myself. OP, this is why you just gotta get a couple of each and see what the fish want that day. A given size will perform better than the other under certain conditions.

For me, 4 ", 1/4 oz or 3/8 oz jerkbaits usually work. But sadly, regulations in my area are not heavily enforced, so there aren't really many bass that are too big, so I don't use big jerkbaits.

The 78 size Pointer would have to be my pick, has caught me thousands of fish.

I prefer the 78 if I needed just one for everything

4" would be my pick and I too target smallmouth most of the time. My normal range is 3.5" to 5", 4.5" is the size of bait I fish more often but there are times when you need to down size and that is why, if I'm only allowed to have 1 size, I would choose a 4" because I have been able to get bit using a 4" jerkbait when they are hitting the smaller size baits but I never was able to get them to take the larger 4.5" so you stay with a size that has broad appeal, the 4" is the clear winner.

My most often used jerkbaits... Slender Pointer 97, Pointer 78 & Silent Pointer 95.  All of them are near, but < 4".

Sp 100...and really like the 78 as well...but if i could only have one it would be the 100sp

This will be my first year trying jerkbaits. This topic was perfect for me. thank you. Wow....the SP100 looks sweet and the color options are incredible. But I am not sure what color I should look at for ultra clear water (30 +/-)??? I like the clear variations...but the baby gill also.
